I installed this optic on a crossman 760 air rifle.I have now shot the riffle around 500 times during target/plinking practice, and the th-cam.com/users/postUgkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W8hE scope has done well. With this optic, I have neutralized around 30 pigeons that were invading one of my buildings. For my short range air rifle, I will continue to use this scope, but will be upgrading to a more powerful scope, when I buy a more powerful air rifle, in order to shoot at longer distance. For the money I have spent, this scope has truly been a great buy.
X-RING thank u for explaining this to me. I ordered a SFP scope and thought I wasted my money bc it wasn’t FFP, but I actually prefer a SFP. Thank u very much. Keep the videos coming brother.
Re. SFP optics, make sure you have the magnification ring set at the exact perfect spot at half power to do your 2x deal, or your calculations and reticle will be "off". You also may need to figure out where the "exact perfect spot" is, for the hi-power setting, to exactly correlate to the precision reticle too. In LR shooting a little off can result in a large miss at further ranges.
Looking for a scope now to put on my new CZ Alpha for deer and hog hunting everywhere I look shows sfp is best for hunting. What are your thoughts? Shot distance would be out to 300 yards. Thank you for your time
I probably didn’t make the right choice for my air rifle. I purchased a second focal plane as compared to a first focal plane. All my stuff is marksmanship and target shooting with the KERVAN airboss K1 25 caliber air rifle. I purchased the I purchased the Discovery Lhd 4-16x44 sfp second focal plan. I’m shooting up to 100 yards or more. Was it a mistake to purchase this?
Hey Ray great video. I’m getting a new hunting rifle and need you expert advice on a quality scope. Rifle is a Browning Hell’s Canyon LR chambered in 6.5 with the McMillan Game Scout stock.
That’s a nice setup Channel Cat! I think you have noticed that I am a diehard Nightforce guy. I don’t know how much you have budgeted for the optic. Anything in the SHV line is good for hunting and long range work. The 4-16 can be had for about 1k and is very versatile. If you have budgeted more, step up to the Atacr 4-16.
So a question I've had. Does the power increase help the target not be covered by your reticle (ballistic) in a FFP optic? In my head I can imagine as you zoom the drop and windage points get larger so the more power helps ensure those points don't cover up your target?
You know, I'm looking at another long range scope for a gun I want to build, and I would love to know what the difference in the tremor and H59 reticles are and how the benefit the shooter... that way I don't have to read LOL thanks Ray! Cheers bud
WTF SoCal Great Question! The reason I went with the Tremor 3 was that it has the wind dots. Other than that, it still has the open center and dot in the center. The Tremor 3 also has a quick “cheater” for 12” targets out to 600. Immediate solutions in the reticle. It’s a little busy but I am liking it because of the wind dots.
DAMN IT ! you are killing me Haus !!! Hey on a serious not... I want to chew on your ear about piecing together a AR10 based long range gun in 6.5... Love to hear what you like in the way of barrels, and chassis, scopes, yada yada yada....
...and also... I just spent 20 minutes watching the only 2 videos on the topic and there presenters are less than interesting... you could make a way better video. But I see the concept, seems pretty simple/yet deep.. but not complicated.... Ill be waiting patiently for your rendition :-)
I get that, what exactly happens to my zero on a 1-4x 2nd focal plane scope. If I zero at a lower magnifications @ 25m (1x.) Then shooting @100m at 4x. I'm way off the steel. It's so frustrating, especially when using those holdovers. I'm using a Nikon M223 2nd focal plane BDC style scope.
jamesdewer Great question James. However, you cannot zero any scope at 25m and have it still be zeroed at 100m. First or second focal plane doesn’t matter in this case. If you have the Nikon with the BDC, I am sure they will either recommend a 100 or 200 zero. If you zero at 25m your impacts will be really high at 100m regardless of power. I will make a video with regards to your question in the weeks to come. Stay tuned
Thanks for the great video . I just wanted to know if i zero my rifle at for example 100 yards with sfp scope at 10x zoom And for shooting longer distance like 500 yard when i use elevation for compensating the drop is it necessary to use the same zoom which i zeroed my rifle (10×) ? Or. Just dial and shoot at any zoom
Go to Nikons online bullet drop compensator and play with it at different powers on sfp and ffp scopes....they have both on there. The higher the power the more hold over it takes with a sfp. Ffp doesn’t change on different powers..... the holdover is the same. That is the real key difference outside of the reticle increasing size as magnification does but he never mentioned that. So to answer your question I think....if you sight in on 10X and go to say 20x the holdover is not the same as it will take more holdover with a sfp scope on the higher power setting.
Sir! I have a question. Is it possible to estimate a size pattern inside your target, say a 20"x20" square ( to keep the math quick). Or does target size estimate have to be from ground up, and at target full size? Thank you for your vid? Great info.
GreatDaneXL Hello sir and thank you for the comment. Inches matter tremendously depending on the distance. You really need to know the approximate size of the target otherwise your calculations will be way off. For most “dead electronics” stages in shooting matches they will give you the size of the steel. It is hard enough with the exact information because of time constraints. I hope this helps somewhat. Thank you for watching and commenting.
I use a 2nd focal plane scope and I don't shoot it except on full power. Know your not high on high power but I've got one 8-32x56 sightron and for me, it's fun. Bench only, short action 6.5 creedmoor that's a great shooter. Glass is good and got it at a great price. Old eyes and this helps. Going to be working on moving out to a thousand yards this summer at my place. Will move further out but not sure where the ballistics will peter out, but I can stretch it as far as I want. I shoot the 147 Hornady match and it's great. I've also had success with the 140 grain and even the white tail 127. Now that I've got my rifle where I want it, I'll find the ammo that best suits it for my area of the playground. I'll never be even near the level you and others are, but I'll end up being the best I can be and having a great time competing against my friends that also have ranges on their property. This is a bit long, but keep up with the details of long range shooting and match shooting. Even though I'm not new to high power guns (hunted all my life) or ar's, I picked up something from you about shooting from a propped position. I've just balanced the ar and not put forward pressure as from a pod. What I trying to say is, the way your doing the instructions helps. It's point of view...sort of. Keep it up and I promise to never write a post this long again...
I'm new to the game. Just bought my first rifle(AR15). Not sure how to determine which of these would be better for me. So I have 49 year old eyes with progressive lenses and I want to stay around $300. Can you point me in the right direction? By the way, I have watched several of your videos. Very informative and entertaining.
If ffp is just all about estimate range. Why not just use a range finder. They are cheap and give you the range faster than doing stupid math and estimate
It’s not. The biggest point about FFP is the scale of the reticle remains constant with the power. Therefore when you are doing holdovers you are much quicker than any other type of target engagement. 👍🏼
To the point. No ego crap, unwanted music, friendly and best of all great explanation. Thank you.
Thanks Mike and thanks for watching.

Very glad that you made a TH-cam channel!! One of the very best content creators on here!!
Thank you Mr. Smith. I really appreciate the compliment.
Best and easiest explanation by far, well done !

Thanks Razor! Just trying to keep it as simple as possible.
Excellent explanation. Thank you!
Thank you for breaking all this down for us all. I am just getting into some distance shooting an this is helping dramatically.
My pleasure!
Short and to the point, thanks!
Thanks for the Simple version. Just what I needed.
You made it so simple for me to understand. Thanke
Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42 is SFP. I really like the low power option and smaller 42mm objective lens. However SFP makes me doubt it.
Very good and simple explanation👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks sir, crystal clear explanation.
Great video, explained simply, which is good as I'm a bit simple lol!!!
When adjusting an SFP scope magnification let’s say 6.5 to 15 will it change the point of impact for the bullet ?
Great explanation

SFP means you're going to be having to do math while under pressure to make a shot. FFP for the win.
EXCELLENT PRODUCT!!
Nice simple explanation as makes sense as I never really knew so I thank you for your good info....Good stuff...
Thanks.
Very good explanation. You earn 1 more subscriber!

Looking for a scope for my 308 and i just want high quality that can shoot 100yds to 600yds. What should i buy?? Any suggestions?
Thanks for the question Lance. When you say high quality, what is your price point?
@@XRING i would say between $800-1250. Im not a professional or sniper but looking for above budget type with a professional sniper's approval.
Very informative again. Thanks for sharing the info
Thank you again sir!

Channel Cat Chaser I think they also do a 50mm obj. If you step up to the ATacr you can get the 42. I run that setup personally.
@@XRING 1000 more🤑

lol well if there’s an EMP…..lol I’ll just save the money and buy the SFP. but honestly great video, thanks.

I either buy fixed power scopes or ffp
Make comparisons between the most expensive and the cheapest ones.
In what point you pay for the brand or the luxury, and not the performance.
