    Best review video I've ever seen. And yes, I can confirm that that food you were spraying is in fact food safe.
    I'd like to request that the next review video be for that tiny pink shop vac you have. Thanks and you're welcome.

      Jackman Works Thanks! That’s actually my two year old’s dust collection for her entire shop. I had to confiscate it for improper use, she thought it would be funny to hit the dog with it. She said she would do a review soon, it’s gonna be gold!

    Awesome and funny!
    I just grabbed this sprayer. Thinking of spraying automotive paint and clear coat on a small project.
    Do you think this sprayer can handle it?

    Here is a tip for this model gun: I was having trouble with the plastic white paint feeder tube cracking. I was spraying oil based enamel and I was having intermittent spitting. I removed the tube entirely and held the gun upside down and the spray pattern was marvelous. I did not thin the paint but it passed the stir stick test where the paint ran off the stick after stirring without stopping and starting for a good 3 mins. TRY WITH A SCRAP PIECE OF WOOD PANEL FIRST. Make sure your plastic paint cup does not leak. Good Luck

      Thank you so much! The large 2.5mm and thin around 5-8%. It will spray without thinning but I like to play it safe

    I just... I can't even... I'm so impressed with how straight faced you remained. I started thinking I was the crazy one like, "maybe you can use tomatoe soup as a finish, maybe this is a thing... Ope noooo, there it goes, he's spraying his own face."

    Thanks for the great tutorial! Aside from taking apart what you showed, how else do you suggest cleaning the sprayer? I'm mostly curious about the inside of the handpiece where the paint goes up into the tube.

      Lauren Carter thank you! If you are using something water based spraying it out with water works well. If you went too long and let it dry in there or using oil based, soak in some mineral spirits for a bit. I also have a small bottle brush kit for cleaning out baby bottles and straws, there is no place that thing can’t reach

      @@sonomacoastwoodworks1126 Thaks for the quick response! I'm borrowed this from a neighbor (who hasn't used it much) and I 1) don't want to screw it up 2) want to be sure it's clean prior to returning it. So, after you unscrew from the paint canister you'd put the underside of the handpiece directly into the spirits to soak for a bit? Am I understanding you correctly? Newbie over here.

    • @sonomacoastwoodworks1126
      @sonomacoastwoodworks1126  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lauren Carter your welcome! you should just be able to pour some spirits through there without issue, again as long as you don’t let it dry in there and you can dip all of the smaller parts. In reality the only parts that would mess up the gun is the needle and nozzle if they were damaged

    When spraying polyurethane, how much dilution with mineral spirits would you recommend? Which needle would you use and how much spray would you allow? I just bought the sprayer, yesterday.

    • @sonomacoastwoodworks1126
      @sonomacoastwoodworks1126  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Grand Padre I try to stay away from spraying oil based finishes as much as I can. It takes a while to dry and you have to constantly clean the gun and nozzle. If you do, the 1.5mm tip thinned with about 10%. Just make sure when you set the gun down after one coat, take the needle out and wipe them down really good. I use lacquer (no thinning) or spar urethane with 5% water.

    Just used mine for the first time today and it had alot of splatter...I was disappointed. What do you think was the problem? The needle? Thinning? I bought it for a "decent" finish sprayer. Any info helps.

      Choo 54 so I’ve been using it a lot lately, been spraying a lot of latex paint out of it. It has to be thinned out quite a bit and use the 2.5mm nozzle. It takes longer to dry but the finish I have been getting has been really smooth out of it

    @Beam and Branch great video. I spray a lot of water based paint from Home Depot and Lowes. Can you give us an idea of how viscous you get it? I use the included viscosity cup. How many seconds should I be aiming for with the viscosity cup?

    • @sonomacoastwoodworks1126
      @sonomacoastwoodworks1126  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bill Patterson thanks you! Mine didn’t come with the viscosity cup, I need to get one. To be honest I’ve been eye-balling the consistency. The instruction manual is pretty vague, it just says for latex use 2.5mm needle and also gives instruction how to thin finishes but does not actually give the perimeters. I’ll get a viscosity cup and post on here where I run it at.

    • @bpatters69
      @bpatters69 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sonomacoastwoodworks1126 Thanks Brian. I read on the internet that for water based paint you should use 1/2 per gallon of paint. The quick math says that is about 3% water which seems low to me. BTW, I use the viscosity cup that comes with the Rocker Sprayer. I would think yours came with a viscosity cup too.

    • @sonomacoastwoodworks1126
      @sonomacoastwoodworks1126  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bill Patterson yeah, that is really low. I’m probably doing around 8% maybe a little more. Maybe it’s the model of mine I’m not sure but no viscosity cup was included there isn’t even a mention of it in the manual. I sprayed some test pieces when I first got it and thinned accordingly. I’m ordering a cup

    • @bpatters69
      @bpatters69 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sonomacoastwoodworks1126 Yes. Agree on it being low. The amount of water will vary based on the latex paint as some are better than others. I am going to experiment over the weekend and see what happens at different viscosities. My bet is the thinning percentage is closer to 8% than 3%. I have seen other sources say that 10% is about right. The last project I did had some runs in it which usually means that i thinned the paint too much. The opposite is an orange appearance which means it is not thinned enough.
      I should have mentioned that I have the older Rocker Sprayer. It comes with a viscosity cup and two needles.
