  • I made this video since a few of my viewers requested to see the Hermit Crab installed on my BIQU B1.
    I'm enjoying how clean and solid it is and it gives my printer a more industrial look.
    What do you think? would this be something you would install?
    Links to my custom made cable cover:

    The linear rail type used is MGN12H
    Fan duct and BLTouch mount I'm using: www.thingiverse.com/thing:490...
    Printer Setup:
    * BIQU B1
    * BIQU Hermit Crab on a linear rail
    * BIQU H2
    * Ultistik PEI buildplate
    * Dual Z axis
    * BIQU (Bigtree tech) SKR 2 controller board with TMC2209 drivers

    palm wheels ware out faster and dust gets around your prints and bed, so there is some advantage to getting linear rails then just better print quality

    • @StackingLayers

      If your pom wheels are wearing out fast and generating dust then they are overtightened. All of my machines currently have pom wheels and not a single one has wear nor dust.

    I've been waiting for this review for a while now. Can you give some details about your total carriage weight now? How easy was it to get a part cooling fan designed for it?

      This is the part cooling setup I use. www.thingiverse.com/thing:4901193
      As for the weight I can't really say. But it's not a lot more because I removed the NEMA 17 extruder motor, and the H2 has a nema14 and is overall lighter. I also run dual Z axis so i don't think about that so much.

    What size were the light blue insulated ferrules you used? A well done, clean installation.

    • @StackingLayers
      @StackingLayers  ปีที่แล้ว

      The light blue are 0.34mm². 22awg if I remember the conversation correctly. But I think it would have been better with 0.25mm² I believe that's the size of the fan wires. The 0.34 are holding well so far though.

    Hey man, I got the Hermit Crab the other day and installed my H2 on it, as well as the fan/bltouch mounting solution you linked. I'm having an issue though and was wondering if you may be able to help me.
    I've entered the provided probe offset from the Thingiverse page, but I don't think it's correct, at least not with the hermit crab being installed. Whenever I try to initiate G29, my bl touch wants to start in the front right corner instead of the front left, and it tries to probe off the bed. Have never had this issue when using a bl touch on any printer before. Did you get a different X/Y offset for your setup? Any help would be appreciated!

    • @StackingLayers
      @StackingLayers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to change your home offset values too because the hermit crab moved the hotend forward several millimeters. I'm not sure why it want to probe to the other side though. I haven't had that issue.

    • @760creations
      @760creations 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StackingLayers Thanks for the quick response. I've never had to change my home offset values before, but I assume I can modify them in the config files while editing the firmware right? How did you measure your difference in comparison to stock?

    • @StackingLayers
      @StackingLayers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@760creations you can set them from the screen. Home the printer, then move it to the home corner (where 0,0 should be) then in advance settings on the Marlin screen select the home offset in advance settings

    I picked up the same Hermit Crab/ H2 setup on my Ender 3v2 and I’m trying to adjust my XY offset. Do you have any guidance? I’m just a little lost! Thanks for the review!

    • @StackingLayers
      @StackingLayers  ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to adjust the home offsets. One way is to first home the machine then use the screen to move the hotend so that the nozzle tip is at the corner spot where X0, Y0 should be (front left corner) take note of how many mm you have moved X and Y to get there. For example if X shows 5 and Y shows 8 then that's the offsets. If you have a home offset setting on the screen then enter the offsets there. Otherwise you need to connect to terminal connection like with pronterface on a PC and use the M206 command to set them. For example M206 X5 Y8, followed by M500 to save. After that home again and tell the printer to go to X0 Y0 to see if it's in the correct spot repeat to adjust if needed.

      @teenagefishman ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StackingLayers Yea the Canbus version caught my eye too. Having a single USB C cable to the extruder would be quite neat for cable management. I also saw they have an accelerometer on the board, would open up some opportunities for input shaping etc I imagine.

    how has it been the performance since you made the upgrade, is it worth it ???

    • @StackingLayers
      @StackingLayers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Performance wise it works perfectly. It's very stable and makes changing out tool or even just working on them a breeze. As for is it worth it, I would say yes, unless you have no desire to swap tools. But even if you have just one tool it is a more sturdy mount than a printed plastic adapter. For example, I see many in search for a better mount to print for the BIQU H2 extruder while mine is sitting there solid as a rock.

    • @davidhaas2528
      @davidhaas2528 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StackingLayers I'm thinking about getting this just for that reason. I've tried the h2 adapter print in different materials and it just never seems sturdy enough. I also end up with the two screws that hold the h2 to the mount working loose over time. This seems like a good option, even though it's overkill for my needs

    • @StackingLayers
      @StackingLayers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidhaas2528 overkill perhaps but it also opens up future opportunities like adding a vinyl cutter or laser engraver to one of the other tool plates.
