I've been away all August, but now I'm back! And waiting ready for me was none other than the digital release of Sony's Spider-Man: Across The Spider Verse. For the sequel that literally CHANGED animation, what is the best SCENE we can dissect? Well this time I wanted to point out the Shakespeare-esque opening prologue of Gwen drumming her heart out and foreshadowing so many moments in a sensory overload cacophony collage of easter eggs and details... This Is The SCENE That CHANGED Spider Man: Across The Spider Verse...

...Damn. For a movie with so many expectations laid upon it. Just this opening scene is a mind-blowing reminder that this project is full of masters of their craft.
I love the aesthetic of Gwen's universe, how it's constantly changing colors based on the characters' feelings is such a nice touch. Also, thank you for reading Gwen's actions correctly. The amount of hate she gets is insane to me. It's like people purposely try to mischaracterise her.
I don't know exactly why she is getting all the hate ( and Peter b too ) I'm trying find the answer , can you tell me if you know why ?
@@ronakbhanat1096people think Gwen betrayed/lied to Miles but honestly I think she kept secrets from him to protect him because she doesn't wanna hurt anyone else.
And also she didn't wanna get kicked out of the spider society because it was her only safe space since her father literally wanted to **kill** her when he found out she was spider (man) and she left him behind to protect herself.
Her initial comics were water-paint aesthetic as well. That was probably the inspiration.
People hate everything... they hate Gwen for her betrayal, they hate Miguel because he's a jerk to Miles, they hate Miles because he's risking the entire multiverse, they hate Peter because he's a bad parent... Pretty much the only character I haven't seen hate for is Hobie. People just find reasons to get worked up about everything, even though its just a fictional story and even still nothing any of the characters did were unreasonable. They all had motives for doing so and were trying to do what they thought best.
@@lasercraft32 exactly and people seem to forget that even though you don't agree with someone's way of thinking or their actions, doesn't automatically make them a bad person.
Because people make mistakes and learn from them.
28:02 If you look at the one frame closely showing the aftermath of a battle with Spot, all the defeated people seemingly laying dead on the ground are spider-people. It's showing what will happen if Miles gets everyone involved in events, how Spot has gone so far beyond what he was that he can't be stopped by even the entire Spider Society. This is one scene I think you have right, that it's from Beyond the Spider-verse. Looks like we have an intense action sequence late in the game in that one, and that it won't go well. Now to wait and see how it actually happens.
27:41 is Gwen seeing Miguel for the first time, their introduction (when he flies in front of her tackling vulture), however it can definitely have subtext/ foreshadowing for something in store for us for the third movie. The colors of the rubble and background are neon blue/red (Miguel's upgraded futuristic Spider-Man colors).
it wasn't her mom in the collage shot, it was definitely Peter's Aunt Mae. The movie only ever shows the four of them (Gwen, her dad, Peter, and his Aunt Mae) like the dinner table time-lapse.
Aunt May* and yeah
Uncle Ben is also at the table
20:06 I like to think that this is from gwen's perspective - in the scene where she's going to leave through the portal, she says “I'll never see him again.”
So in her view, she thought she knew the rest: she was gonna go fix that mess she made with the spot, cry over the fact she was SO awkward to miles' parents and that this is the actual last time she'll ever see or visit him again, etc…. (probably what she was thinking in the scene where she walks down the ladder off the apartment rooftop's building)
but she didn't know the rest.
What DID happen was:
miles saw the whole thing, invisible, and followed her through the portal (the importance of that being shown in the scene of him falling through the portals)
and he finds out about the canon, he finds out she kept the truth from him, etc etc etc…
heyy big thanks for shouting out my gwen vid!!! 😁🙏
AYYY! IT'S SCHNEE :)
Your video was amazing!! I love your video analyses so much they help me see things in a totally new manner, thanks schnee!
@@gjk-arts5855 thx!!
20:12 If you freeze on the frames where Gwen is falling into the portal , You'll see she pucker-ed up her lips , As if she were gonna kiss Miles. 😯
(Sidenote : 22:49 Is from the Roof Top (Or Party scene) , After Gwen decided to leave and Miles just stood there staring off sadly as she left.
Hey , Your right , Wow your good at this.
I took it more as her taking a deep breath and exhaling after the crushing decision to abandon her father and home universe. Pretty sure that scene of her falling through the portal is right after Miguel gives her the watch. She's not puckered up for a kiss lmao
@@sarcasticat6979 yeah
I noticed that now too! She's falling in love haha
this scene is hits hard with cymbal-ism
nice!
27:15 This scene is actually only shortly later, when Gwen is fighting the vulture, this is the scene is showed just as Miguel enters and attacks the vulture, except at that point she is coloured and there is no rainbow in the background.
28:06 is from Miguel's introduction when vulture was attacking the museum
it felt different to the first one as in the art style it has upgraded somehow
everything to do with Gwen in this movie is just fantastic, man.
You could write an essay about every scene in this movie
That wouldn't be an essay, that would be a whole ass book
@@Rangi_WildDogHell, a whole series of books
13:50 it’s the new suit for Miguel, it’s even foreshadowing the next movie, wow
That’s what I thought
That bagel really hit the spot
the intro is what happened to Gwen narrated by her end of the film self , so unfortunatelly I don't think there's any spoil from beyond in it (unless it's actually narrated by end of Beyond Gwen ... that'd give a complete new sense to what she said).
Rewatching the scene made me realise how subtly they switch the narrator from end film Gwen to the Gwen we're watching (basically when her group make her snap out of it)
Great frame by frame breakdown of the first scene of the movie! I'm pretty shocked that no one else has decided to break down this scene, considering how dense and visually stunning it is, and you did a great job presenting many of the little details even most movie detail analysts would miss!
Wanted to just correct a few things/scenes :)
22:49 is Miles watching Gwen leave after the rooftop party scene and the talk with him, Gwen and his parents.
24:21 you already pointed it out but that is when she returns to her home looking for the photo of her and Miles.
25:01 is Gwen revealing Peters body from under the rubble, th slab of concrete has been replaced by bright colours in the blam effect thingy.
25:47 is actually aunt May in Gwen’s universe, we see her in the dinner timelapse scene and when Aunt May says “no politics at the dinner table.”
27:45 is actually the scene of Gwen looking at Miguel as he bursts into her universe, the shot of her looking at him and him looking at her as goes past punching Vulture.
22:55 its around the scene gwen leaves from the rooftop! This is miles' face seeing her leave. There's a shot that looks exactly like that too, if you rewatch the rooftop scene I think..
What about Puss in Boots: The Last Wish that Changed Scene?
Puss in Boots 2 & Spider-Verse 2 are the best animated films of the past year.
@@modmaker7617 i know, right?
You know it’s really interesting how miles dad doesn’t hate Spider-Man or blame him for Aaron’s death like all the other captains, he even works with Spider-Man in across
It’s implied that in the fight with Kingpin he let’s go of his grudge and learns to trust that Spider-Man is working for the greater good. It’s not conveyed too well, but it is there when he starts rooting for Spider-Man
@@BOGOworms4sale no I know but it’s interesting that his dad had that arc
@@victorpalacios5668 ooooooh okay lol yeah I agree I think miles is the perfect subversion of the typical Spider-Man tropes and that’s an amazing example
@@BOGOworms4sale yee
27:37 this is when miguel comes to help her defeat the vulture I think
Gwen is my favortie spiderman character
same! I have (not made by me) fanart of her as my pfp lol
Gwen is truly an amazing character! I don't understand all of the hate on her.
I feel like the whole Gwen vs. Dad issue could have been avoided if the Peter accident was properly investigated. There should be more than enough evidence to vindicate her.
Also a great choice for a scene. Diffenetly is the one that sticks with you the most
Thank you for this video, I think it describes Gwen perfectly. And I love this beginning scene its amazing
27:31 that's when Miguel comes in through the portal and gwen sees him!
The "perfect image of Mile's face (22:48)" is of when he's in the bedroom on earth 42, thinking he's talking to his mother. You can tell because of the purple hood with green overcoat, because in his own universe, the hood would be red and have a black overcoat.
No wonder it took them 5 years, all that in like a minute is insane
(SLAMS thumbnail to watch)
YESS THE DRUM SEQUENCE IS THE BEST BITTTT
27:35 this is a differently colored shot from when Miguel shows up for the first time, the slow downed bit with his music sting
25:54 the collage is on/in the silhouette of the building where her and miles hang out before the spot escapes miles' dimension
Oh, you know schnee?
He does a lot of good and interesting Videos.
I don't know if anyone else has said this but you know that shot of Gwen with the rubble in front of her face that you said might be from the next movie? I'm pretty sure that's taken from her fight with the vulture. When Miguel enters the fight from the portal he opens up it cuts to Gwen and the shot is practically exactly the same. Just something I noticed.
Sitting in the theater, hoping that this movie would hold up to my expectations after the last...this opening scene just blew me away straight on the surface and I could even *feel* that there was so much more I wasn't catching. Thank you for this insanely detailed breakdown!
He managed to make like a 30 second clip to a 30 minute video
FINE I'LL WATCH IT AGAIN!!
27:31 is infact from this movie it's when Miguel is 1st brought in and tackles Parchment Vulture 10mins 38secs in
... which I have just seen has already been pointed out here
A full breakdown of the movie sounds amazing.
None of the scenes changed the movie, it was consistently good.
Copy pasting this from another reply I did,
It changes OUR VIEW of Across the Spider-verse. The beginning is the key moment that shows us this movie is going to be DIFFERENT. His story is gonna be more complex, even more intense, etc! You think you know the rest? You don't.
This scene is the moment that you know you're gonna be watching Across the Spider-Verse - and its gonna be a MASTERPIECE.
Ah! i just noticed they're all going into hobie browns universe at the end! (I think??) The portal looks like paper mache collage,,can't believe I didn't notice that
28:08 it’s from Migels intro
27:36 is a recolored scene from when Miguel enters her universe
Dazz, we've yet to see you review another great stylized animated movie in recent years.
*The Last Wish!*
The shot of Gwen with the rubble flying past is when Miguel O’Hara enters her dimension and attacks the vulture.
21:34. background is the inside of spider-gwen's hood, and it is not the only one (instance). For the exact shot, it is more of her responsibilities as a spider person trapping her.
This whole scene reminds me of what was mentioned in the behind the making of arcane documentary "we wanted to have a painted look, so we paint" or something like that. The attention to detail is insane and so meaningful. It's something that is missing from Disneys wish (from what I can get from the trailer). The watercolour look looks rushed and cheap on its owns and more so compared to gwens world. Across again had set such a high standard so I'm glad beyond is postponed.
I knew this video would come
13:36 The face in the background looks like that of the Prowler.
It's probably referring to Miles Morales, since he is the Prowler in an alternate universe.
Although, it also looks like the thing which surrounds the eyes of the akumatised when they communicate with Hawk Moth in Miraculous.
28:07 that’s when Miguel first appeared
I think everyone is waiting for the scene that changed Puss in Boots the last wish.
13:30 that is Gwen's spider symbol. It's hard to notice because she doesn't wear it as an insignia, but it is there in the blacks of her suit.
kinda of simmiler to hobies animation later in the movie specifiicly the lightnight shape 22:06
miles went through a lot
27:15 I always thought this scene was from ATSV when Miguel enters through the portal to stop the Vulture from attacking Gwen?
After doing a video about Frozen 2, can you please that changed the film?
27:36 is when Miguel appears to stop Vulture.
28:00 Holy shit Spot just eviscerated the spider society
Im sorry, the opening scene the one that changed across the spiderverse?
Not the canon-event scene, which not only changed this movie, or the last movie, but the entire spider man media as we know it?
27:41 im pretty sure this was from when Miguel punched Vulture, is it not?
Yes
Punch-Out Wii music! Nice
Can anyone here some music from a game in the background 24:57 it from somewhere don’t know where
A scene chock full of cymbalism. I'm not sorry.
Finally
Dazz, Where have you been?
The Edingburgh fringe
13:47 that's gwen
That black spiderman symbol and eyes could be Anti-Vemon?
All of this was in the Beginning or something?
If so, that’s very interesting.
Changed? What, did they uptdate the movie?
Kind of, but it's not related to the video. In fact, they did change Across the Spider-Verse from the theatrical version to the digital versions! There are several tiny changes between them, but nothing that changes the plot, just changes in details. For example, after teasing Miguel, Lyla does a bunny-filter-selfie with Miguel. In the theatrical version (which is the one I saw, but some people saw the digital cut in theaters too), Lyla offers Miguel a fist-bump instead!
But referring to the video, it might refer to a few things
1. It could be saying it changed Across the Spider-verse *in production*, like these beginning scenes helped figure out what the directors wanted to do with Across the Spider-verse
- >> but its MOST LIKELY:
2. It changes OUR VIEW of Across the Spider-verse. The beginning is the key moment that shows us this movie is going to be DIFFERENT. His story is gonna be more complex, even more intense, etc! You think you know the rest? You don't.

You should review star wars rise of skywalker for your're next terrible series, it's been a long time.
Can you please do the scene that changed How to train your dragon?
I really didnt like the second Spiderverse very much. It wasnt bad, but i swear its even lower FPS than the last Spiderverse and the visuals are a bit much this time around.
Cool😊

why do you call every shade of aqua "cyan"
Because they are very similar
