Everyone who has at least once attempted to gather a soul from each of the 120 different enemies in Aria of Sorrow, especially during a speedrun, knows the frustration it incurs after a hundredth failed attempt to get the required drop. That just makes this all-souls TAS, played on hard mode, even more impressive.
This is an improvement of 1:38.85 over the previous movie (tasvideos.org/2995M.html) , thanks to a more optimised route and newly used items. Please read the authors' comments (tasvideos.org/5206S.html) for more details.

Just learned the most viewed section of this speedrun is the Lilith Succubus bathing area.
I noticed that the soul was collected from the first boss (Creaking Skull) with no indication, but every subsequent soul had an indication.
thats because he leveled up at the same time
It technically does display, the level up happened the moment he grabbed the soul, so there's was a bit of a corruption of graphics that didn't display the description properly (but the text box is there) due to the effects of the boss being defeated and the level up action.

Recently just started playing this game but I always wondered how he constantly stayed at 1 hp and 100% guard rate.
the staying at 1 hp bit was due to not using any healing items or using save points, which is important for the lubicant soul, and the guard thing is due to the blocking mail, which has a 10% chance to prevent all damage

Never played this game, but aside from some soul RNG manipulation, I thought it was a pretty straightforward TAS run... and then @4:50, shit started getting crazy. xD
2:00 is when it starts getting crazy.
He gains invulnerability due to the game thinking he is dead but it allows you to regain control of the player once he regains back health with an item that actually decrease the health (a pretty common glitch in some games) and then proceed to warp to an area that is like waaaaaay later than intended. In the map, the area that you see after is in the bottom of the castle, while entrance is located in the mid left side of the map.

Does anybody actually know how he is able to get soul every time he needs to? During my run of Aria of Sorrow on Advance Collection, I was able to figure out that soul drops are affected by actions. For example, I wouldn't get soul from killing said enemy, but if I hit another enemy next to it before killing the enemy I wanted the soul from, the soul could now drop. I was abusing reload to try all kinds of stuff, sometimes with desired results and most often not.

basically, through inputs, he manipulates the number that is used to check if you get a certain outcome
Basically, the exact same thing you were doing, on a larger scale, and with the help of looking into the game's memory. Human runners for this category do smaller RNG manipulations with the help of save-quits. (It takes about an hour for a skilled human runner, IIRC.)

I assume you are talking about the zips (bat zips, etc.) its basically like you are getting into the walls hitbox and because you are not meant to be there you get sent up out of the hitbox which can turn into massive skips. It is possible for humans to do this as this is a required glitch used in some areas to get a good time for any% speedruns. It is very hard to preform though.

If you have TAS-like movement, yes. You can manipulate RNG with frame and pixel perfect inputs.

Getting the soul is easy. Its like a 15% chance to drop. Stopping it with yhe chronomage is the tricky part.

So, I assume this is mostly RNG manipulation via methods of moving Soma and how high his Life and energy meters are?
Simpler than that I'd imagine they just had to re-record a lot of the rooms many, many times to get the drops when they needed them.
