GBA doesn't even output at 240p, its native resolution is much worse: 240x160! 4k obviously wont help a game like this look any better but the reason encodes all get the 4k treatment is because of the way TH-cam works: higher bitrate source material makes YT allot more bits to its own encoding, so you get less compression artifacts at all resolutions as a result.
There was a reasonably high-quality encode of this TAS that got corrupted by some changes that TH-cam made to the way it serves video a few years back, and that corruption was only noticed (or at least, logged publicly on the forums) recently. There's a list of encodes that need attention that publishers work through as they can and it just took until now for this TAS's turn to come up.
Loved the gameplay and played myself as well (finished) but I can't stop thinking where does the Castlevania style (effort) was put? You have literally different styles and characters yet they still feel like Castlevania but when I see this game or Dawn Of Sorrow the level goes like from 10 to 6, and I liked OoE and PoR which are very similar but again the story just like the "color" and not talking about the OST falls terribly, Julius seems very useless even if he was being helped by Charlotte to kill Vlad in 1999 game that never came either, so not so sure if I am the only one or should see the game in another perspective?
Can we please, as fans of speedrunning and Castlevania, come together and popularize "No-Back-Dash" speed runs? I know it's not as fast but my ears bleed whenever I watch a speedrun like this, especially when I can't hear the great music!
@@lacreatura4737 Right, like the artificial limit removing back dashing would impose could make the run more interesting. Would you ban back dashing altogether effectively banning dash-cancelling?
@@calebspilman7811 I guess I'm a Castlevania fan before I'm a speedrunning fan, and as a Castlevania fan one of the games' best features is the music. Trying to watch any playthrough of a Castlevania game where the music is compromised is unsatisfying and a dealbreaker I'd say.
This is a Tool Assisted Speedrun, all the commands are pre-programed by someone going frame by frame through the game to stablish the fastest time they can run the game in, but I'm pretty sure RTA runners also use a similar technique, just not to the crazy extent of a TAS imputing at 60hz
U should give it an try. It's really good. If you never played any Castlevania games, or u have, but not in an Metroidvania style, this would be an perfect start.
Aria TASs are always amazing.
It's fun to watch NMG TAS runs that don't noclip through walls, styling on bosses with sublime technique.
Alternate title: Soma goes ham and moonwalks all over Dracula's castle.
*Soma's castle
✌️
00:00 TAS : Tool-Assisted Speedrun
07:50 CAS : Caffeine-Assisted Speedrun
Ah yes, Soma is back.
Hopping around like a Flea-man in 4k.
Sky fish be like: Woah! what was that?!
You just moved into your sick new castle and some angsty teenage schoolboy starts wavedashing up your stairs towards you.
What do you do?
Sue the realty dealer introducing that castle
The angsty schoolboy *is* the real owner of the castle; you just happened to claim it for yourself. No wonder he gets angsty.
Wavedash away since his wavedash has a hitbox
Jump out the fucking window Becuase fuck that
Just lay down and take it. There is no escape.
Soma isn't Dracula reincarnated, he's just juicing real hard.
- Soma: "J, what's wrong? You look pale."
- Julius: "..."
Mmmm, yes, that 4k upload really brings out the....pixels.....in that 320x240 GBA game....
I know right? Our modern technology is wonderful! It really amplifies the pixels

This matters for nes games too right?
@@jerppursh7570 Sure does.
Soma wore the "Casual Clothes" for basically the whole run.
Dracula just got shit on by a college student in basketball shorts.
i find it funny when the TAS spams through the dialogue so fast the dialogue doesn't even load, only the character's name does
Actually the text loads for 1 frame.
originally published over 10 years ago
here i'm hoping terminalmontage does "something about castlevania aria of sorrow TAS" someday XD
When you think that Moonwalking in stair in Super Castlevania was cool....Soma : Hold my Beer
his drip goes so hard that he's schmoovin everywhere
Everything seemed normal until he got the dash...
I just love this game too much, honestly.
No judgment but why did it take ten years to encode/re-encode?
158684 rerecord count isn't a small number, I think.
These TAS's have already been encoded, just not in the highest quality.
These new encodes are to enhance the presentation.

nice moonwalks! I enjoyed the Michael move.
Legend. Never played this Castlevania

That legit sounds like an interesting concept. Almost like a "Slow Run" of some sort.

@@jojojoma3026 Backdashing and cancelling are banned. Although the Flying Kicks you do with Double Jump are A-ok. But by the time you get there...
Seems dumb, especially considering this is all for just hearing the music. The goal is to go fast, not listen to the music

I remember first time watching it in 2011
Is it gone?
