  • TNA iMPACT! isn't just a television show that aired on FOX Sports Net and SPIKE TV, guys. It's also the name of the one and only true home console video game TNA Wrestling ever released! It's hard for me to believe that this game dropped 11 years ago, but it was easy for me to decide that I wanted to do a full retrospective on this one. This is Triangle X Squared O, DanDans, and it's time for Ultimate X!

    The PS2 version is actually more shallow than the PS3 and Xbox 360 version. There's all the limitations from the next gen versions, but; for the PS3 and 360 versions, you get to create a wrestler for the story mode.

      Absolutely. Rome wasn't built in a day. Unfortunately the reality is with game development, it's very expensive & Midway had to release it at some point.
      They couldn't keep it in the oven forever & it came out 2 generations after SD1. The standards of development were a lot higher & you can't just release a first entry then a critically acclaimed sequel 9 months later like the old days. Unfortunately the ROI wasn't enough to justify a sequel & of never got a chance.

    Graphically I still think Impact holds up well. Lack of match types and the over abundance of no name jobbers bugged me (and still does). If I remember right there’s a reference to Lockdown in the story, but no six sides of steel.
    Midway and TNA could have gotten names from the Asylum or FSN years to be apart of the game, instead of flooding the game with Jobber #146. As a game, Impact had a lot of potential to be something fantastic. It just felt like a rushed release with a shit ton of delays.
    Like you said, TNA during 2004-2008 was phenomenal (no pun intended). I preferred it over WWEs product for the most part at the time.

    • @616Entertainment
      @616Entertainment  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      TNA was so, so, so much better than WWE in 2004-2008. Not that WWE was TOTAL garbage at that point, I don't think it was, but I just loved the TNA product. I was all over it.

    • @ThePunk01
      @ThePunk01 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      TNA looked better than WWE games graphically simply because they only had a handfull of wrestlers to work on. If the TNA game had 80 to 100 wrestlers like WWE games, the graphics wouldn't be what it was.

    • @Bellocks1
      @Bellocks1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      TNA in and around 2008 had the most stacked roster in modern history - Styles, Joe, Daniels, MCMG, Beer Money, Angle, Sting, Jarrett, Steiner, Booker T, Dudleyz.... and the Knockouts Division was slaying the Divas division every week - Kong, Sarita, Wilde, TBP... and even Ayako freakin’ Hamada!
      Impact was must see TV if you were a wrestling fan back then.

    I live in Cookeville, a little over an hour away from Nashville so I got to see the glory years of TNA in person. I was in high school until 2005 so my parents took me until I was about 18 then me and my beat friend went after that. We can be seen in the audience in about half the matches in their 1st 2 best of dvds, best of x division matches(they later had a the best of x Division volume 1 and 2) and best of bloodiest brawls and also on AJs and Jeff's dvds. Hell we were there when our favorite wrestler made his surprise debut in 04 at the anniversary show against AJ for the X title, Jeff Hardy. You can only imagine how we marked out for that as we hadn't seen him in action since his WWE firing and he had only made independent and 1 ROH appearance. We were there when they went through their ECW phase, which was awesome and I can be seen handing New Jack a chair in a hard 10 match against Sandman, also on the bloodiest brawls dvd. I have a special place in my heart for TNA, esp those early ppv only days and I was sad when they moved to Orlando. Oh well I'll always know I was there for their best days, esp since WWE went tv pg during this time ending my 2nd fav era of WWE, ruthless aggression so TNA was there to pick up the slack while also having my fav ECW wrestlers b4 they went to WWE's version(which started out great but QUICKLY went downhill after the tv pg rating change) and my all time fav Jeff Hardy. Going to TNA events in Nashville was MUCH more intimate then any WWE event as it was in a small little building at the fairgrounds where the announcers sold the tickets and worked the dvd table and was so small you would get to see and talk to all the wrestlers. It was a great time in my life going every weekend and it was pretty cheap also almost cheaper then just buying the ppvs lol. We did meet Jeff again in a bar across from Bridgestone arena in Nashville also and my friend has a pic of him and Jeff at that bar that I took on his Facebook, I sadly broke the phone with the pic of me on it and didnt have a backup lol. So while yes not having Jeff on the TNA game or esp in Here Comes the Pain really sucked at least I was getting to watch him in person all the time from the front couple rows and at least HCTP had an amazing caw feature with expertly done CAW blueprints online to make up for it and THQ left his moveset and entrance plus his tag team and stable entrances in the game so a good CAW looked authentic.

So I can’t remember if I commented later that day or if it slipped my mind, so if I forgot then I’m back to fix it haha. This game looks like it was a lot of fun, but would be kinda easy to get tired of after a week of owning it. I not only grew up watching TNA Wrestling (now Impact Wrestling) in its heyday, but grew up playing that TNA Impact game religiously.
    It sucks that, not only was there no sequel to the original video game, but that TNA was dying a slow & painful death and totally lost viewers like me.

    Great retrospective as usual. You're right, The game doesn't deserve the dismissal it gets, It unfortunately became part of the "TNA Fail LOL" trend, But pre-release, there was hope and anticipation and even watching this video, Reminds me that the game has potential to be fun and a distraction in small doses.
    As usual, Wrestling suffers with a lack of demand in the grand scheme of things as it's just not financially viable to make wrestling games let alone sequels, Unless you're WWE. Like WCW Mayhem 2, TNA Impact just needed another chance to build upon it's foundation, A bit more time like Smackdown 1 did but it never came.
