Almost ordered this pen as part of a "group buy", but was hoping someone would do a review, first. And, here we are! Thanks, Chris! I currently own six Ranga pens in both matte and polished finishes. All are ebonite, and all have JoWo nibs. I love them all, and feel they're a great value for what you get!
Nice to see a Ranga pen. Have been thinking about those. I have a couple Indian made pens, but no Ranga yet. Many if their models look tempting, and they are one of the few affordable options for an ebonite pen.
I got this same model in a matte ebonite, and it has a nice chunky feel to it. 27 g complete, 19 g without the cap. For a smaller hand it is the perfect size and has perfect balance uncapped. And unlike their other pens, it uncaps with about one turn (instead of 3). Mine took several weeks to arrive though.
I noticed. Didn't get a chance to check TH-cam till now, so you beat me to it. :) Lovely pen and a great review. Not sure about this model vs. some of the ither Ranga models, and they have plenty, but I want to order one for Christmas.
beautiful pen. it reminds me of the Lamy 2000 finish (makrolon). I don't remember if I have ever used a Bock nib. I just checked all of my pens, and don't currently have a Bock, even in my boxes of what I don't use.
Thank you, Chris. Thanks for trekking across the Himalayas to show us that handsome pen. So what if it's not chatoyant, lol! Thus far, my Indian pen buys have been pen of the day deals from fpr and they're fun, but I didn't expect great things and wasn't pleasantly surprised. I see different brands, Ranga, Guider, Camlin, many others. Ranga seems to do a good job, at least in the opinion of yourself and some others, e.g., What I Ink, if I've been paying attention. Cheers!
Nice pen, love my Ranga's. I find it funny that you talk about how "big" the Ranga 3 is, while it's one of the smallest of the Ranga's that I have! Matte acrylic is a cool choice, I'm going to have to pick on of those up some time as I like the way it looks here.
@@chrisrap52 Other upside of the matte finish that it can be less slippery in hand. So lose some flash, and gain functionality. Staining can be an issue, so that is important to remember beforehand.
Is that the olive green striped acrylic? I recently received my Ranga Splendour in the green striped, which is the same as PenBBS's Peacock. I'm going to start an ostentation.
Glad it was helpful! My focus is to provide info, visually & verbally, for you to make the best decision. The section is a very critical part of a pen, where your fingers grip the pen. We all have an ideal section.
I just got this pen yesterday in a wonderful multi-color ebonite. Ranga has the most beautiful materials. I have about a dozen. Most Rangas are much bigger; This was intended as sort of a pocket pen. By the way, sewing that white fabric around a package is a traditional Indian way of packing an item for shipping. Rangas are a bit more expensive now that they are using German nibs, but it such a difference. Indian nibs are just not that great. I used to buy them with an Indian nib and replace that with a German #6 or even a large vintage nib. Ranga often has group buys at discounted prices.
I didn't order this pen as I thought it would be too small for my taste. I still think so. As for the pricing of the pen, I think you're being unfair. If I remember correctly the cost of the shipping of this pen is over $20. Due to the current Covid 19 situation Ranga are forced to use courier service instead of the Indian post - this is why you got it so fast. Also, this pen is truly hand made they don't use any kind of CNC machine and even the threads are done by hand - hence their products' extreme accuracy and finish is really impressive. Given that they offer an extreme number of material and nib options, I don't think there is a single American manufacturer which offers a better value as they are all more expensive (and since I'm not American, they also charge me over $20 for a USPS service).
@@i.c.3157 Shipping used to be included in the pen price. Now they charge extra. An order I made at the begining of the Covid 19 pandemic got stuck in the Indian mail for 4 months, now they simply don't want to use the Indian mail service.
@@omeryehezkely3096 I see, I was checking the pricing on the Ranga's website and they charge me $14 for shipping, which is understandable due to the circumstance. But why is the 4C Ebonite model $62 even without a nib or converter, does adding threads for a nib unit really worth that price tag?
@@i.c.3157 I'm not here to market Ranga pens, but in terms of quality/price ratio you'll find that it's hard to beat Ranga. That said, the main problem when ordering from Ranga is that you need to know exactly what you want and what you are actually ordering. The most important aspect you should pay attention to is the dimensions of the pen - Indians seem to prefer gigantic pens and most of Ranga's pens may be considered as comically big by western taste.
@@omeryehezkely3096 Well sometimes you want the pen to make a statement. And ghey can be comfortable for longer writing sessions, even if they look a bit comical.
The large half full bottle cannot be used to fill pen as cannot insert pen into ink to use converter to fill. I show the bottle & discuss why I use syringe.

Ranga does make lovely pens. We don't buy pens for the packaging but they do make it interesting with the fabric cover.
Nice one, thanks!
Ranga is on my wishlist, probably 4C Ebonite!
great choice. enjoy 2023,
That pen hits about every check box of what I like in a pen...probably even more. Nice one Chris!
Love the Ranga pens-so glad to see your review-especially the Bock nib-as always-thanks!

I thought it was an exotic wood at first. I'm thinking of getting a Giant 9B.
That's a nice pen, a design that I would love to draw with!
Really nice and the broad nib writes nicely. I've never tried the broad nib

Every time you feature a new pen and ink bottles I have never seen my shelf groans in fear lol
This is a very helpful review for me. I'm trying to decide on my next RANGA..

Wow, that was quick... I just paid for mine last week too. I order redish ebonite with broad jowo, can't wait to try it. Good video Thank you
Mr Kandan is very responsive. I've ordered 3 in 1 Ranga 4C polished solid blue ebonite with Jowo broad nib and am awaiting the delivery

Yes you pay attention, Allen likes Ranga pens, has a few. Now they offer converters & German nibs which expands their customers.
I tried your syringe technique to fill my Lamy Al-Star and it worked great. A full fill of the converter with saturated feed. Thanks for the tip!

Ranga Abhimanyu "Grand" model is bigger in size than regular Abhimanyu model.. I'm thinking of the Sapphire sea acrylic version of the Abhimanyu Grand

I have been looking at the Ranga 8 Splendour with a #8 nib. I think the nib is made by Magna Carta. Sounds interesting.
