Based on what I heard online, Toffee's wasted potential could've been avoided if the crew had gotten a sound-alike while his actor struggled with cancer. Reminds me of when the team behind The Emperor's New School cancelled their third season because Eartha Kitt passed away. And why did the Season Four writing staff turn him into a one-dimensional bully when Star's first half already had throwaway bullies like Brittany Wong and Jeremy?
Could have been explained away since, much like Glossaryck he was killed/damaged in some form. For example, the magic blast damaged Toffee in such a way that what we saw was ALL he could regenerate. Never able to DIE but never able to LIVE stuck in a loop of sorts. Affecting his voice, thus a voice change would make SENSE cause his voice box was melted. Then have him appear in EVERY episode in the background in a cloak. *Mysterious Cloaked Figure watching things* THEN during the Final season he would start making his move, possibly having a change of heart after seeing that it's not magic that is the problem, but who is allowed to USE it. Deciding to help Star take down the new Solarian Army, providing advice, etc. Make the finale focus less on defeating them and more on the corrupting of magic, maybe Marco gets corrupted restoring the monster arm but making him more monsterous with tentacle hair, monster eyes, etc. Marco becomes one with this monster side of himself, and uncorrupts but keeps the powers it gave. Using the wand gives him magic like Star's butterfly form. *Basically the monster form IS it with a magical aura*. Glossaryck gets corrupted, so Tom/Marco/Star work together to take HIM down. Unlike the other corrupted, Glossaryck retains his voice and mind. But shows his TRUE form and powers, no playing games, etc. Ends with Star and Marco casting the final blow, the battle resulting in the realm being purified and Glossaryck passing off the torch to Star as the new Guardian of Magic. Meanwhile Ludo has to save his family who all get trapped under rubble from the Solarian army, can't lift the debris and is all "I am useless! If only I had the wand I could just.... LEVATATO!" Shocking everyone when his hand glows and he uses the magic. *If a human/mewman can gain native magic by using the wand, a monster being FUSED with the wand should be as well.*. After the finale fight, they work on rebuilding things in a montage of sorts. Star punishing the old Commission with her new status and abilities given by Glossaryck as a result of his defeat, *removes the magic from all but Heckapoo until a later date. Her choice not star's* As well as forms a NEW commission in it's place, comprised of Tom, Ludo, and some new characters. *Ludo's use of native magic gives him a new taller body. As well as access to more spells. Lekmet inspired design btw* Where did the old commission get sent though? Oh the neverzone.
This was so well-made! You succinctly pointed out just why Season 4 sucked so hard for fans… I rewatched most of the show last week and your point about season 4 failing at giving a satisfying conclusion to a year’s worth of build-up made my frustration make sense! Toffee had so much potential it made me sad they squandered it.

@@electrobob992 This sounds like a better finale than the official ending.
