I like the observation you made about the character of Dave's vocals. I don't think a lot of people would argue that his vocals are very good from a technical standpoint. In fact I hear a lot of people criticize him for not having a great voice. I don't love Megadeth bc of the stellar vocals. I do like the way he manipulates his voice though. It's part of the band's overall appeal for me.
According to Dave, he became the singer of Megadeth more out of necessity than wanting to be the singer. Truth is, I can't imagine anyone else singing his songs and doing them justice. Dave's vocals are unique, a quality not so common anymore. You hear Ozzy and you know it's Ozzy. You hear Lenny and you know it's Lenny. You hear Dave... nothing more needs to be said.
I never thought Dave was even a "good" singer but for what he does it is perfect! Best attitude singer ever. I think the best growls and things are on Peace Sells.
Thanks for checking out Megadeth! Dave , as far as I know, never had any vocal training early on (He may have later in life, to protect it) Just figured it out.
This is something Metal can do that most other genres stay clear of.... Whether is politics, war, drugs, hate, religion, there are no boundaries with it comes to Metal. This is one reason I have been listen to Metal for forty years.
@@metaltildeth6783 Not only that, but it consists of so many talented musicians, more than in a lot of other music, yet it's not as popular as other genres, that says something.
I saw Megadeth in Atlanta near the end of the 2022 tour and his voice wasn't that bad. I have seen live concert video where his voice is so bad it even makes me cringe.
Saw them twice, yes there was a drop off live, but I throughly enjoyed both shows, was not cringe at all. Saw them 2022, he sounded slightly diminished but overall very good! Not even half as bad as Axl rose or Vince Neil
There probably isn't any vocal measure that would qualify Dave's voice as good in any way, but his voice is Megadeth and is the perfect accompaniment to the band's consistently stellar musicianship.
I liked this album when it came out, listened to it literally 100s of times. Back in the day, to me it was possibly the best heavy metal album released that year. It took years for my young self to realise how political it was, and still is. It holds up.
Hey! This was my first Megadeth album! I like Symphony, but I think their best work is on other albums - Hanger 18 is a blast, Peace Sells... is a true metal anthem, A Tout Le Monde is a more contemplative side of the band.
Ken, you really should check out ‘Symbolic’ by Death. I know this genre may be out of your comfort zone but the musicality that goes into this band is ridiculous and I highly recommend. If the screaming is too much, check out their instrumental ‘Voice of the Soul’
Continuing to love the Month of Metal Ken. I wish it was the Year of Metal, as a month of videos will really only just scratch the surface of what metal has on offer. Though from the videos you've put out you are definitely hitting on a pretty good playlist. I haven't seen you do Gojira yet (ille double check after the comment) but Gojira is Currently held in very very high regard both for their Musicality, and for their Lyricism. If I had to recommend one song it would absolutely be The Art of Dying! However for something a little more accessible, I'd have to recommend the combo video of "Fortitude" and "The Chant". When this album first came out, I heard these two back to back, and by the end of Fortitude, I was nearly crying, I had no idea why as there arent any lyrics it's just chant, and a beat leading into "the Chant", but the raw sound of it is just so so good. It also helps to know that Gojira is very very aware of the human impact on nature, and are very vocal about it. Another great one to react to for vocals would be "Toxic Garbage Island" the ending belt of "PLASTIC BAG IN THE SEA" gets me every time.
If you'd like to hear Dave voice a completely different character, I would humbly suggest the song "Sweating Bullets". Contrary to the title, no guns are used (or even mentioned) in the song.
Amazing guitarrist and songwriter, but not a good vocalist (he never wanted to be one in the first place). Still managed to give charisma to his voice to fit perfectly into the Megadeth sound to the point I can't imagine another guy singing for them. Proof that sometimes is not all about perfect technique or talent.
I think that one scene can be read as condoning that vigilante justice, but I see it much more as just part of the symphony of destruction, and how it goes in that direction as well.
Thank you for pointing out what many of us have known all along. That metal artist have always been ahead of the game in terms of social commentary and political messaging. Also, the bass line in this song SLAPS
Hey Ken, have you ever reacted to Tommy Johansson? He is the guitarist of Sabaton but he can also sing. Maybe even better than he can play guitar. He is doing all those cover songs from ABBA and Ace of Base and classic rock songs. Please check him out.
It's good, but I think Sweating Bullets (1992) and much later Die Dead Enough (2004) and Washington is Next (2007) are better. I prefer their songs that are a little more complex and lyric heavy.
Of course we would never wish violence on our duly elected leaders but one great loss after the disappearance of monarchy was the loss of the great tradition of regicide. I believe the guillotine was designed specifically as a classy way to dispatch members of the aristocracy while the hoi polloi just got a giant pinecone in the keister.
The elitism/pedantry is squeaking out in the comments. "It's not their best, just the one people choose to play more often!" 😂🙄 Metal is more blended now then it was in the 80s and 90s when metal bands were more one thing. They were thrash or death metal. Now bands are a blend of genres in and out of metal.
It's one of his best song but I think they are some other songs who are as same as good as this one. Listen to Tornado of Souls, Peace sells but who's buying, Shewolf (live), and so on. Or the mechanix who is the same song like Metallicas Four Horseman because DAve wrote this song. But if you would do me a favor and dind't listen to Eluveitie it would be a plesure to me.
Surly you heard this one before. And no it`s far from the best Megadeath song, just as Jump is not even close to Van Halen`s best song, just most famous song seen from a pop perspective.
Hi Ken. Loving the "Merry Month of Metal." Please react to "Mist" by Canadian prog metal band Protest the Hero for my friend, Kel -- her favourite song by PTH. She's my only girlfriend who likes metal, so I wanted to dedicate it to her. Mist is a tribute to Newfoundland, and they discuss why in the vid.

Great observation, Ken! Metal artists are great artist and they're not afraid to use their platform to speak out.

I have always liked Mustaines vocals. Its 100% character. Sad that he can't really do it that good live. That album is a favourite.

Getting older probably hasn't helped any.

One of the best! Dave’s a great composer and a great guitar player as well! He’s a genius 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

besides Megadeth's music, what I think is cool are the political lyrics, it makes us think a little about what happens and how we are manipulated
A couple of other unusual vocalists you might wanna check out are, Tom Keiffer of Cinderella and Taime Downe of Faster Pussycat. 🤘😁
I never realized if he sung bad or good. I just know it fits with his song's and I like em!😊
One of my fave Megadeth songs! 🤘🏻

Still appreciate this just as much today as I did back in the day.

Totally agree!

To hear his interesting voices...check out Sweating Bullets!
Dave for President.
Love that you’ve covered this tune. Great tune and video too. Awesome video, could easily be from today.
Foreclouser of a Dream is vocally interesting
Dave Meniketti of Y&T fame is a great hard rock/metal singer and is still going strong at almost 70.
Dave's the man
You really need to take a listen to some Fates Warning. Great musicians all around. Rays vocals are on point.
So much of his music, which I love, is sarcastic. I think his vocals are aimed to sound this way.
State of the art.
It's their best earworm song but by far not their best song!Don't know if you ever did 'Holy Wars' by them yet..if not : It's time!
He did that song about a year ago now.
YOU HAVE TO DO MORE!!!!!!
Love it
Suggestion Megadeth - Wake up dead. One of my favorites.
Check Marty solo albums, its from another world

Id be really interested to hear your thoughts on scooter ward from the band "cold".
Marty 'undercrook picking' Friedman
It's good, but not the best - that's my opinion. But I have to say, there is something special about it and that makes it interesting👍
Dave mustane is so watchable. He has that old bardic style of attention.

Metal bands are often political and have been whistleblowers since the genre began. Honestly I think that's why they have been persecuted in the past
Should really do some Powerwolf
Enya
Just about the time I was thinking if I was around the politician I would kick him in the balls, he got shot. Well, alrighty then.

Dave has always had a beautiful voice for a drunk clown☝️
dave for prezs
This guy looks like Conan O'brien
I was so glad I got to see them live in person last year with FFDP they put on an amazing show can’t wait to see them again later this year
Damn Friedman was good, those solos were vocals.....
Danzig...listen to Danzig.
Not their best song by any means. It’s just their most well known song.
very true
Personally, if someone asked me the name of one of their songs, I would have said Countdown to Extinction before Symphony.
It's holy wars for me
@@debiw8599 I agree.
@@m.rraghav817 That’s a much better representation of them.
I think it’s one of their best but I’m not that big of a fan.
Eh... Taking the livelhood of millions kinda deserves some vigilantism, even if we are taught (by company funded schools) that that is wrong.
Dave's not a vocalist he couldn't find a singer when he started megadeth so he said F it I'll do it.
Surly you heard this one before. And no it`s far from the best Megadeath song, just as Jump is not even close to Van Halen`s best song, just most famous song seen from a pop perspective.
Wrong version. The live in Argentina is better.
No, it is not the best song Megadeth did 🤷🏻♂️
