    Good video but failed to mentioned that to bleed the system you need to have the heater on as well so it circulated the coolant from matrix too

      There's no actual heater control valve fitted to the Astra, so in theory, operating the heater will have no effect on the coolant flow. Following the procedure we described should bleed the system OK.

    Mine loses coolant out of the overflow on the header tank does it mean i have a air lock ?

    My coolent pipe collapses when cold. I have changed the cap with no luck. Will this help,
    My idle drops and cuts out

    In my manual it says to fill the coolant just above the cold mark and not exactly on it.

      It will probably make little difference. If you put too much in, any excess will be ejected and the coolant will find it's own level.

    I wish the vectra drain plug was this easily accesible 😂

    I seem to be getting through a lot of coolant at the moment, I have an 04 petrol Astra, 102298 miles. The oil cap shows no water signs and last oil change showed no water sludge. The expansion tank gets low to the bottom hose in 2-3 weeks but no signs of water leaks and engine runs fine.
    Have bought some Holts rad weld ( blue bottle ) hoping this may fill any leaks.
    What's the procedure for this? Do I need to flush the engine or just apply it with new antifreeze? .
    Any help be appreciated.

      Rad weld may be useful in an emergency situation, but I can't recommend using it as a permanent repair. The problem is that it has a tendency to block small diameter coolant passages, which can in turn lead to overheating. If you must use it, I believe it is simply added to the existing coolant (you may have to syphon some coolant out of the expansion tank to make room for it). Good luck!

      @@HaynesManuals Many thanks, a work colleague has had a look and says there is a redish residue around the water pump. So I'll clean that and see if if builds up again and take it from there. 👍

      @@rodgeyd6728 as I always say. If you can't see it leaking then it's going out the exhaust 😂
      To lose that much coolant you'd be seeing a visible leak over say half hour of idle running. Head gaskets can fail in a way that coolant is going into the cylinder and not mixing with the oil.
      There's also a water jacket on the egr cooler which if blown would also enter the cylinders through the valves.
      And make sure you can see the radiator too. A lot of people mistake the intercooler or condenser for the rad as they're normally Infront of it.
      I had a few shrapnel holes in mine about 5 years ago and radseal sorted it nice. Flushed it a couple weeks later and it's held ever since

      @@MaNNeRz91 Many thanks , but think I've found the leak. Seems to be the casket on the waterpump, so I'll just keep it topped up more 👍

      @@rodgeyd6728 be wise to replace the pump at some point as a leak will only get worse and when you need the car the most that's when it will give up on you. (From experience) 🤦🏻‍♂️

    How to remove coolant from engine?

    The air?

    • @HaynesManuals
      @HaynesManuals  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On 1.9l models, there's a bleed screw in the coolant pipe above the exhaust manifold, on the other engines, the system should be self-bleeding. Squeezing the rubber hoses as the system is being filled will help too.

      @@HaynesManuals ok friend, I have an opel astra caravan 1.4, the system takes the air automatically?

    So you don't bleed air using the bleed screw then 😂😂😂

    • @HaynesManuals
      @HaynesManuals  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would seem that a bleed screw is only fitted to the 1.9L models. In the metal coolant pipe above the exhaust manifold.

      @@HaynesManuals I tried finding one when I did my pals coolant change on his 1.9cdti a couple days ago but we just burped it in the end 😂 my Laguna has one on the hose to the heater just before the bulkhead 🤷🏻‍♂️ can't see why they don't just fit them on all engines. And what's this bs having to find a secret menu for the temperature gauge 🤦🏻‍♂️ good god! 😂
