    My recommendation is "make friends with hunger". Don't be afraid of it, welcome it. Like an old friend. Like the pain that comes with exercise. Both are good for you. Embrace them.

    My sister traveled from Oregon to Washington DC, stayed there about 36 hours, came back, and was NEVER hungry the whole time. She just didn't want to eat because food can be such a hassle when traveling. She's done OMAD and 24-48 hour fasts for years. My hero.

    I just finished my second 5 day fast and plan on doing 1 a month until I reach my goal. When I first heard about extended fasting I never thought I’d be able to do it. Start small. Fast 8 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours regularly. Work your way up to 2, 3, 4, and then 5 days. It’s totally doable.

    I knew there was something I remembered about my life as you were talking, so I've come back to make another comment! Many years ago, my late husband and I left the security of two good jobs, a home, family, and many close friends to move across the country to buy a business in which we had no experience. I was even pregnant with our first child! We were so excited to be making the big leap into unknown territory--both with the business and with having a child after twelve years of marriage! It didn't end well because of the recession our country went into, but we did it!! And our marriage survived working side-by-side, 24-7, while raising a difficult, demanding child, for four hard years! We never worked so hard in all our lives! So I know from looking back on that experience that I have the fortitude and the determination that it takes to do something extremely difficult. I also moved away from home and family after becoming a widow and lived in another country on my own for eight months! I shall now concentrate on going back into my memory bank to use those hard, challenging times to help me through my struggles while fasting!!! Thanks so much, Mike, for the lesson on mental endurance.

    Day 2 of a water fast and it's harrrrd. I had a bunch of fatty homemade broth on day 1 to help kickstart keto, but will be just doing water/tea/electrolytes/apple cider vinegar moving forward. Hoping to make it 5+ days to help with hemorrhoids (give my bum a break), and of course want to get those autophagy benefits. But I'm SOOOOOOO hungry and it's so hard to push through. This is the longest I've gone without food before. Going to go for a walk and listen to an audiobook and hope it helps. Man, I hope i can push through this, because it feels like I'm dying over here.

Where is this mental clarity and fasting energy I keep hearing about? So far the whole process has only been suffering. And the hemorrhoids are still as present as ever. Gets better after day 2 my ass.

    I have been practicing low carb in conjunction with fasting - specifically OMAD for over 2 years now. During that 2 year period, I basically practice OMAD for 5 days a week, during my work schedule, and then switch to two meals a day on Saturday and Sunday to make socializing easier. Once you practice OMAD for a while, you cease to get the frequent hunger pains you used to get. Its those people who oscillate back and forth between OMAD and regular meal frequency that continually have the hunger pains resurface because they don't practice OMAD long enough to acclimate the hormonal milieu to that pattern of eating. In fact, I find it harder to eat two meals on the weekends, to accommodate for others. I find that I have to force myself to eat, because I just don't feel hungry. I kind of do this to be accommodating to friends and family. This was a marked difference from 5 years ago when, as a high carb consuming obese guy, I would feel like I had to eat every 3 or 4 hours.

    Really appreciated the content - and the especially pleasant backdrop for this video! It DOES make me feel proud that I don't have to gorge myself on food--and eat all kinds of crazy carbs like many others--and that I have some self-control. I'm going to focus more on that aspect now and see if I can conquer my late-evening cravings. "No caving, Grandma!" :-)

    I am just starting a 3-day fast after doing 24h without any problem. I loved the mental exercise part of it, very satisfying to experience not giving in.

    “I want to spend $500.00 on a camera…” Yep, that’s how I was and now I’m into debt and financially insecure. Working on digging out of the hole and setting it straight. Food cravings and money are intertwined…addictive personality enters all facets of my life. I will overcome my need to be “ok” all the time.

    I ate one meal a day for years, you do get used to it...I felt great and looked pretty good...not skinny at all...I actually lifted weights 3-4 times a week as well. ..still do. If you really feel hungry, have some water with a little lemon juice in it. I do play music so I must have high energy

    Thanks Mike. Wonderful and informative as always. When I talk with people about improving their health and raising the odds of not getting CV, or getting a lesser version of it through fasting, it's almost comical how it goes in one ear and out the other. They can not comprehend it. I think it's because they have to temporarily give up their "comforter"...putting things in their mouth. It's interesting to observe. Fasting is not easy, and someone has to really want to do it to make headway. I have not yet been able to convince anyone to try fasting and getting into ketosis. For me, I feel like it's my secret weapon against illnesses.

      Ramadan fasting is not real fasting...You guys trade out your daytime eating to night, when your body should be resting! You dont eat when the sun is up, you start eating, as soon as, the sun is down, most muslims set an alarm to wake and eat right before sunrise... true fasting is eliminating food 24hrs or more...fasting is water (fresh young coconut if you need the nutrients)and perhaps some cleansing herbal tea,

    Thank You so much for addressing the mental challenges of fssting! Too many others talk only of the benefits and feeling so great and energetic while fasting. They don't tell the truth, I don't believe. They just concentrate on the beneficial feelings you will get while fasting, not the mental exercise. 😀❤

    Your thoughts on whether I'm compromising some of the benefits from fasting like cellular autophagy by adding BHB salts as a preworkout to my morning bike rides? The appetite suppressing properties have been incredible, eating a meal became a choice and no longer an impulse.

    • @Highintensityhealth
      @Highintensityhealth  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I’m not a fan of the the salts per se. You’re going to be keto anyway via exercise-likely not needed. BUT I’ll do another video on this to expand more.
