I teach the Middle Ages to Year 8 students in Melbourne Australia. My kids love the gruesome and icky, so crime and punishment in the Middle Ages really gets them engaged and wanting to learn. Black Death is also a favourite. I get kids to “pop” the buboes to get an idea of what it may have been like. I fill the cells of bubble wrap with yellow detergent and they use a wooden skewer for the popping part. Even when they were trying not to inflict harm, many practices were tortuous. Thanks Bailey.
I'm guessing the high school you teach at must be quite nice. I don't think they would allow skewers at some Melbourne high schools. Mine included probably. 😅 I loved learning about that era too. We had a fantastic history teacher. He would act stuff out and have us in hysterics. Teens love gruesome stuff. It's only as you get older you realise how truly brutal that period was. this is right up my alley!! me and my dad went to Prag 2018 and visited the museum of medieval torture instruments O_O and the spanish tickle torture device was there and that spikey chair and many more creepy instruments !!

this is right up my alley!! me and my dad went to Prag 2018 and visited the museum of medieval torture instruments O_O and the spanish tickle torture device was there and that spikey chair and many more creepy instruments !!

A bridle is the leather headgear that goes over the horse's head, the part that goes into the mouth is called a bit, the strips of leather/rope that you hold onto are called the reins. Because I know I'm not the only equestrian who died a little at that lol! Ok, back to enjoying Bailey time.
Prague has an amazing torture museum...a couple floors worth... I felt a bit disturbed while walking around looking at all the displays, instruments and explainations. Worth it
