7500 RPM launch for the STI. Dayum!
And the Lotus driver had a pretty damned good launch too, especially considering that the car is RWD.

The more I watch these Japanese shows, the more I wish for a serious one over UK, US. But a boy can dream. Instead we only have Motortrends, and some pointless over the top illegal street race like 1320 and BayArea, where rich assholes are not satisfied with their horsepower, and only go in straight line, and it's all about the bullshit Domestic vs Import over and over again.

Tom Shepard its because there is no audience for such thing ppl want to watch shit like top gear and nobody cares about real racing real cars and japanese are really into this. in this show they can talk you in the car and you can feel every oversteer understeer like you were in the car. in western they cant tell shit about car just how pretty it is and i quete clarkson "its best car in the world/i ever driven he say that on every fucking car. but there is a BUT this japanese show has its mistakes like tsuchiya (dude in bmw) must win and cant loose because he is a cry baby and then there is a problem with nissans you see they are proud to have GTR so in every race GTR will have better score better final position in race and even will be tuned to race stock cars so it can win so yeah i recon watch this show but dont really believe it

Creative1722 I care not for who's better than who, or which car is better, we all know GTR is the king of the street, but I don't care for the GTR, I watch because I can see and feel them drive and they give feed back. Anyway, the real ones to watch is the touge battle where Tsuchiya and his boys test drive tuners cars from all over Japan, that's the real thing. The man is the Drift King because he made drifting popular, but it doesn't mean he can master any car. As the host of the show, I think he has to feedback that way, his reaction to defeat isn't bad.

The driver in the lotus definitely knows what he's doing. Very impressive. If the STi, would've had more power to it he would've won, but it was a given that the lotus was going to pass, the acceleration on that lotus is ridiculous, let alone the driver was fantastic. AWESOME race.

That's a Spec C version of the STI. Twin Scroll turbo makes 320HP, lighten, stiffer suspension, and it's essentially like a Type R. It's racing spec setup complete with different tune and modification than the standard STI.

    • @largelampard3721
      @largelampard3721 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

308hp/6400rpm, not a whole lot difference on paper, however it got water Intercooler, might help a lot in continuous maximum power output.
      Weight is still 1450kg.
Other are like lsd, suspension etc which is very easy to replace on the standard sti.
I think what you're saying is STI S206. This guy got 320hp. Bigger wheels and different turbo etc.

I agree 100% not many things can even touch a lotus on tarmac, they are very small and nimble, with a good power to weight.
the STi can do most things, the lotus is suited for med/small tracks so is the sti due to its rally pedigree, though on long tracks I'd take a high powered v8 rwd for example on a v8 supercar track, different classes, engineered cars for different intentions.

I have been reading up on it for a while. I've narrowed it down to the STI or the 5.0 Mustang. The 370z might handle a little better, but it lacks power, comfort, practicality, and I'd much rather listen to the V8 than that coarse V6.
I'd choose the STI over the Evo for basically the same reason. Not as razor sharp, but much more comfortable and that boxer engine sound is lovely.
So, unless I end up moving to somewhere that's all highways, I'll probably get the STI.

Not really. The transmission is actually better off with a little "wiggle room" as it were. It's also partially a design thing. On my 1998 Subaru Forester (obviously not used in racing) the shifter will shake back and forth a bit when getting the car in motion. The transmission in my car rests on 1 inch rubber pads so that it CAN move to prevent damage from being directly bolted to the undercarriage.

Unfair Battle, the Lotus is using R comp Yokohama race tyres, the other cars are using normal road tyres!

Yeah that would be true if the STi didn't just set the record for the Nurbugring last year.
Subaru did very well in designing a car that dominates the track.
I actually test drove the new Nismo 370 last week. Very fun car, but I prefer AWD

Have you ever raced on A048 competition tyres? They are many seconds per lap faster than normal road tyres. With this in mind, I think you will find the outcome in this battle would be much different.
But I understand A048 tyres are standard for the Lotus, so I guess it is a "fair" battle!

The 370z driver was a bit disappoint. I ought to believe the Nismo tuned Z would make mincemeat of the Cayman S in the least.
The STI is surprisingly good. I didn't expect it to stay ahead for so long with each fierce competition.
The M3 is in the wrong category. It's is a bit too powerful in this group. The same goes for the Lotus Exige. The Exige 240 and BMW 335is is a better match-up in this group.

@rarejd the spec C in this video isnt a 2.5 litter engine.. JDM subaru engines are and always be 2.0 ( hope so) . they use the ej20 engine no 2.5
you can easily figure that out cos the jdm revs up to 8k+ and the usdm at 7 something? aprox? I own an ej20k myself and my redline is 8300 rpms bro!

The lotus is the only car there with track focused ao48 tyres, worth a couple of seconds a lap at least, so it's an unfair contest. The bmw is the most powerful but can't get the power down. All on sticky rubber, it would have been a really interesting race!

but the point is not to have to mod the car. I think the problem was that Subaru wanted to "Americanize" the car to make it more comfortable, but in the end they ended up making it less fun. Sure, it's WAY faster round corners than the previous gen, but, as KT says, the point of a fast tuner car is NOT to sacrifice fun for lap times.

I'd take the Z any day. I don't care how slow they are, a convertible 370Z is one of the sexiest cars in existence. And they're fast enough. :)
