    this is awesome - i would love a bit more of an indepth explanation on how you used the booleans to create those really nice rock shapes!

    Pfff I just spend an entire day figuring out how to do this. But here you are saving the day with this tutorial 😂✌. It helped me get a better understanding of how to approach this. Cheers!

    A slow turorial would be great, i ve been looking on the internet and asking how to use the curvature node as a mask to dammage edge, and there you are doing it easy. Thank you so much, this channel need more support guys, hit da button lets go

    so cool...... now we need a tutorial in slow motion :) because is a lot of nodes there to explore :)

    I've never used Houdini, but these videos are making me want to try it. Seems like it can be a very powerful tool given you know what you are doing.

    Man... I love these small hints and tips. Great example.
    Another approach is to use the scatter node and voronoi fracture before converting it into a vdb.

    • @simonhoudini5074
      @simonhoudini5074  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is indeed a great way of making the base shape. I was first thinking to use the voronoi fracture but I liked the copy stamp a bit more :)

    Hey Simon. I love the results. Would be greatly appreciative if you could make a video doing it all from scratch in real-time without commentary. 🙏

    All the difficult parts are kind of hidden in the nodes though so without the hip file this isnt really that useful :(

    Any chance you could upload the houdini project? I would be so interesting to be able to play around with the solution!

    Dear Simon, I have Houdini 20.5, if I buy the HIP file from Gumroad, would everything and all nodes open and function normally?

    the result is good, congratulations, however it need more detail. the part of the loop is not clear enought. can we have the hip file??

    I'm having a little difficulty finding the expression needed for the random scale value on the transform 10 seconds into the video. Does anyone know the formula?
    Made some progress figuring it out with help from this thread : www.sidefx.com/forum/topic/61565/?page=1#post-274518
    I'm quite new to this so I'll avoid posting my solution because I'm guessing it's not ideal.

    Could you make a video to show how you would optimize different assets for game engines. A generic video explaining the thinking behind it and how you would do it in Houdini

    • @simonhoudini5074
      @simonhoudini5074  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Optimizations will depend on what model it is.
      The most generic workflow is polyreducing the high poly and bake the detail with maps baker.
      (I use this in other videos as well)
      If you are looking for lods, there is a Labs LOD node.

      Thanks, not sure what you mean but to texture the rock you can use Substane Painter.

    Great tutorial. Do you think it’s possible to do rock formations like Sea of Thieves with Houdini?

    • @simonhoudini5074
      @simonhoudini5074  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I definitely think that stylized rocks are possible. Focusing on the begin setup might be able to get you some what close.

  • @Tehmora
    @Tehmora 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can I ask how long something like this would normally take you, if you were working on a project? With the shear number of nodes, it looks like it would take you roughly an hour or so (from my noob estimation)?

    • @simonhoudini5074
      @simonhoudini5074  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will take a few hours, since I also made other rock tools before so that helps. The first time making a rock generator will take longer, like a couple of days.

    • @Tehmora
      @Tehmora 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow! Now I don't feel so bad. >_< I had this weird idea that people who do this for a living can whiz through. I feel a bit better knowing I'm not a slow fart.
      Thank you very much for answering! =)

    Ok, this is great, but maybe a 10 minute tutorial to actually get into the details just a little bit?

    • @antennatrees
      @antennatrees 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean I get a lot of what you're saying and can replicate it, but the noise details at the end is the real magic sauce and it's glossed over here. Take the extra time and maybe you'll get some more subscribers.

    So disappointing that this really isn't a tutorial at all. I wouldn't mind buying your file, just really wish there was a step by step guide that came along with it.

    • @vk1441
      @vk1441 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't completely agree to that statement. I believe there's only so much you can show in 2 minutes.
      It's like those art comparisons in 30 seconds, 5 minutes, 20 minutes, and hour, etc.
      I still think this video is incredibly useful for thought provocation - to generate ideas and your own methods of what's possible in Houdini.

    • @vk1441
      @vk1441 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do however agree that this video only shows you a little tip of the iceberg of the entire process.
      And I also wish to see an in-depth version of this 👌👌 so cool

    • @KageBlink
      @KageBlink 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vk1441 I agree, but Houdini deserves so much more than that, if people are willing to sit down and learn a program. They're not going to mind sitting through half an hour learning the ins and outs of how to do something specific.
      Like for instance, I know how to bake normal maps in something like marmoset. When it comes to houdini, I have no idea, and I've looked and looked. So instead I take the model, put it through zbrush to make it workable in Marmoset. Then bake out the maps I need, then bring them back into Houdini.
      There are a ton of tutorials, but unfortunately they're outdated and I run into roadblocks with Houdini and it's very hard to play detective on something trying to reverse engineer how the devs made certain changes. They completely change the logistics of the way it was described in previous videos, and I admit I am not a smart person, but I've been able to figure out the majority of this stuff on my own.
      There are just some things I was really excited to learn in this video, but how to get there, is this huge complex math problem that I really need a class lecture of the rundown behind the formula. Sure, most of you guys already get it, that's cool, but doesn't really help the people really excited about houdini that are new to it.
