  • Breakdown of the Houly Rock. Houly was a Houdini challenge in July 2020, where everyday you make something in Houdini.
    Step by step in the video each node is the network will be shown. Starting with making the base shapes by scattering points and copy a platonic shape on it. Further noises or triplanar displacement is used to get the detail into the shapes.
    A cool part in the video as well is how to procedural color them. The color is stored in the point/vertex and could be baked into a texture that you could use in other programs to finalize the material.
    This Breakdown share similar appraoches like my previous rock tool • Houdini Procedural Cli...

    Hey Simon. With this specific tutorial, at the beginning, you placed a transform node labeled "scale" in between the Merge 1 and "Copy to Points Node" What exactly does that node do, were you placing a variable that adjusts the scale variation of the individual rocks?

    Pretty helpful tutorial, up to the point that the interface has completely changed on the newer labs nodes so it gets a bit confusing how to proceed, as I don't get the expected results on the preview.

    Hey Simon fantastic video as always. One small problem I have SideFX Labs installed but cant seem to find that mesh sharpen node you used. Am i missing a trick?

    Hi, your video was very detailed and helpful! But there's just something that I didn't understand. Could you explain to me how you transformed these volumes in the "copy to point" part? Because each one looks different. 5:15. Regards

    • @simonhoudini5074
      @simonhoudini5074  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Before that 5:15 , I talk about adding a random attribute value. So if each point has a random attribute called scale or pscale, this scale will then be used in the copy to points to scale the model based on the attributes of the points.

    hi there simon, thanks for the tutorial! just a quick question. I'm on houdini 18.0 with the newest Labs installed, but I can't find the triplanar displace? was it taken out? I'd really like to try that node.. any ideas? Thanks again

    • @simonhoudini5074
      @simonhoudini5074  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try updating to the non-production build of Labs. This should be a toggle in the update menu

    is it me or does every release of houdini render all previous tutorials unfollow-able? the attribute noise node at 6:37 is unrecognisable now (to me). maybe there could be a translation chart online so users could switch to the new nodes properties

    • @SanjarTheKingOfKings
      @SanjarTheKingOfKings ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's been 7 months, but Houdini has this functionality built in. By going to the Asset Manager, Configuration tab, you can set the Asset Definition Toolbar to 'Show Always'. This allows you to switch to older node asset versions by clicking on their name.

    How, or can you instance different versions of the rock instead of just the same one over and over? Thanks for the tutorial ! (As in, if I choose like 5 I like, and want to instance them all over a cave)
