- We head to Deal, in our opinion the jewel in the crown of the Kent Coast but is it Kent’s answer to Cornwall?
Join us for coffee on the seafront before we explore the historic (and reputedly haunted) Deal Castle.
Then we head along the pier and grab some fish & chips which we manage to hide from the resident seagulls.
It’s then time to discover more of this picturesque seaside town that gives us vibes of Cornwall before stopping to admire the unique Time Ball Tower.

We "discovered" Deal a few years ago before Covid. Wonderful little apartment with a unobstructed view of the Channel. We enjoyed ourselves very much. We stayed at 59 Beach and our first meal was Fish and Chips at the Sea View Fish Restaurant. What a incredible meal that was. We were travelling to France and England in June and we wanted to visit some of the quieter locales and Deal was just what we were seeking.

The time ball tower is by the sea because the ball is dropped every 1pm for ships in pre radio days to check or set their clocks! 😂😂😂😂
I'm almost 80 living in the Philippines, but I grew up in Deal and it's a great place.

that coffee shop you stopped at was a public toilet, many years ago, and was converted to shop... I grew up ,born in deal....

The time ball is working fine, it rises 5 mins to the hour and goes down on the hour

My mother and twin brother was born in Walmer
That old lifting bridge has been open since about 1962, it gets regular maintenance because of the train tracks on it. it's fine. 😊
Grew up in Deal the time ball tower used to drop at 13.00 so ships sheltered off Deal could set ships clocks correctly, in middle street ( ship pub ) you could get house to house by cellars smugglers used it to avoid customer officer

Back then in the olden Centuries ago, there was so much suffering!

hello, you guys adventure around alot. Sometimes I think having spiral stare case going in a tower to each room then in the middle it would go through the library, but then it would be alot of steps. You guys have any favorite gem like places you've been to? what was the tunnel looking thing you walked in? you two look like your haveing a great time in every place
We do get around a bit 😂 we’ve got so many to be honest not sure we could narrow it down to 1 😂
