I must give a vote for The Sandwich Shop a great place for breakfast, lunch or tea. I have always found the staff there very pleasant indeed and well worth their tip.
Hi Maxine, it is a lovely place, a step back in time in places. Where are you coming from? We hope you have a lovely time; thanks for taking the time to comment. All the best, Gary & Janis
Hi Crystal, Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. You have to love a little quirkiness, and you can always find it if you look in the historic cities, towns & villages of this isle. We're always on the lookout for more. Anyway, all the best, Gary & Janis
went to school here for five years. if anyone ever films a period drama or whatever here i would go insane. probably would be too overcome with emotion and tears to even watch it
😀 Well, don't watch 'The Old Guard' then! We haven't seen it, but we know a seen it, but we know it features, although pretending to be French. It's a lovely place, we hope you enjoyed your 5 years there. Thanks for the comment, Take care J & G
Awww brings back so many memories for me. I would ride my bike there every day as a kid and grew up fishing there and all over there when my dad took me and would go to all the parks and the many other things and then on the walks my parents loved going on there, then as time went on I had my own kids and I took them there for years as they grew up and I hope that they will take their kids there and enjoy the place as much as me. It has always been such a beautiful place to me from a little kid right through my 40s and even though I now live in NRW Germany, it still is and always will be my favourite place to be, what ever I am doing there. I love how it just has not changed in so many years, I mean I walked around sandwich as a kid over 40 years ago and apart from the vehicles being new, the place itself is almost identical to the first time I went there. I cant wait to take my German wife and my new son there, if truth has to be known, I wished I had moved there rather than Germany, maybe I can talk her round some day, we will see lol
Hi, It will be lovely to visit Sandwich with your family. You're right; it probably hasn't changed a huge lot over the years, and on a sunny day, there really isn't a bettre place to visit in Kent for a good dash of nostalgia. I hope you all make it back here someday, really soon. All the best Gary & Janis
1:25 Thank you for this excellent video of the town I live in. Allow me just a minor correction; the P22 patrolled the River Rhine, a long way from the border between East and West Germany.
Thanks so much Joe; I am glad you liked our video of your town. A beautiful place, and of course, you are correct the P22 was a Rhine patrol craft, and the Rhine is nowhere near the East/West Germany border. I meant to say between a divided country, rather than on the divide, my mistake. Thanks again for taking the time to comment, Happy & safe travels, Gary & Janis
Hello my friends once again :) As a medieval historian, I have visited Sandwich on many, many occasions -such an important port from early Saxon times. A few mentions - the Fisher Gate, originally the main gateway from the port, with the custom house just further up. The Guildhall still retains the wooden paneled courtroom within. Do take the steps up to the top of the tower of St.Peters Church - only recently installed with the additional wooden steps during my last visit in 2016 - tight fit in places - but the view is well worth it - and people should explore the alleyways that connect most of the streets - wonderful place and endlessly fascinating. Very nice tour - top shelf as always, and thank you :)
🙏 Thank you again. I have seen Sandwich described as one of our Medieval treasures, but as I researched using Historic England's excellent resources (historicengland.org.uk/), I noticed many amendments over the later centuries. I would have loved to have seen the guildhall in its day. After Janis watched the video, she remembered why we didn't climb the tower - face masks. Face masks & spectacles don't mix, especially on a climb. One for next time, perhaps? Thanks again, take care. Gary
@@OurWorldForYou Yes, face masks and spectacles are a tricky combination at any time :( I only need to wear a mask for about three hours a week- to complete my shopping, as I live out in the wop wops and fairly reclusive at that. difficult for many retail staff though - all day, every day !!! Thanks again !
Hi Ann, So glad you liked it, a wonderful bit of 'Old England', and hopefully worth the travel - where else did you visit on your travels here? I hope they were as rewarding. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to stop by to leave us a comment. All the best, Gary & Janis
Started in London, to Dover , sandwich, now in Brighton. Will be going to the Jurassic coast and Cotswolds . Uk is beautiful, lots to see . I am British but migrated many moons ago .
Hi Ann, That sounds fantastic, Brighton, and this weather - must be wonderful. With the Jurassic Coast & Cotswolds yet to come - 🤞 we leave the sun turned on. We hope so as we're off to Wells & Salisbury next week - who knows, it's the British summer. I bet it's nice to be back; the place has changed a touch over the years. Anyway, all the best, happy & safe travels. Gary & Janis
Hi Vickie, Absolutely, Ash is a pretty little village, just a few short miles from Sandwich, a beautiful part of the world. I might have to include it in a little road trip in the future around that part of Kent. Anyway, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. All the best, Gary & Janis
Hi there, July will be a lovely time to visit, and no, we don't know Jill, we were just visitors too, albeit local tourists. Safe and happy travels, Gary & Janis
My family used to go to Sandwich because my mother's and twin brother was born in Walmer, my material grandparents was living in Rochester not near Sandwich is Ham
Walmer's not too far from Deal, another splendid town. And the Ham Sandwich sign is famous, if a little run down now. All in all a lovely part of the world if it ever stops raining here ☔ Thanks so much for stopping by, All the best, Gary & Janis
Hi Carolina, That's a good question, and it depends on how much you want to see. In 3 - 4 hours you can have a good look around; however, if you stop for lunch, and pop in a few places, you could spend a whole day. (The video was shot over 2.5 hours, but we've been to Sandwich many times) Anyway, we hope you enjoy your visit; happy & safe travels, J&G
did you know on the other side of the main dual carriage way is a village named HAM....for real so you could have a Ham Sandwich for real...check it out
🙏 Thanks again David; yep we've seen that, actually captured the sign in our post on a Kentish road trip - www.ourworldforyou.com/a-scenic-coastal-road-trip-around-the-shores-of-kent-uk/ - Another plan to turn that into a road trip video. Cheers, Gary & Janis
Just outside Sandwich either side of the Deal road are two villages, Ham and Worth. The sign post has all four names on it. So Ham Sandwiches are Worth a great Deal. I was born and brought up in a small village 1.1/2 miles from Sandwich and went to secondary school in Sandwich.
I wonder how many times the folks of Sandwich hear gags about the filled two slices of bread? What do you think? Anyway, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment - it gave me a smile on this damp Monday morning. Cheers, Gary & Janis
Useless. It looks like you prefer the sound of your own voice to showing us roud Sandwich. A terrible shame, as I looked forward to a comprehensive tour. Sadly Not.
Hi Mike, You had best not subscribe then because all my videos are like this. And as for liking the sound of my own voice; I don't really, but I do like to share the things that we discover when we visit somewhere, and I think talking about it the most effective medium. Anyway, all the best, Gary

Well shot, well explained, this video is brilliant!! I'd love to visit sandwich someday
