- This was such a fun project, very glad to add this locomotive to my rolling stock. I think it looks great rolling around the layout and the Powered Up conversion went very well.
A huge thanks to Brennan Huff for helping with this video! Looking forward to following your projects!

No offense, but this Brennan dude sounds like a bit of a lunatic…
Kidding aside, I think these are the best improvements you’ve made to any existing official Lego train set so far. The perfect combination of colors and piece modern piece use. I personally love this set, because of the of the 30 possible builds all designed by fans with a limit piece count. It’s the biggest train collaboration between Lego and its fans and the designs and build techniques are different to what Lego normally offers. This period (around 2007) was really peak for Lego trains.
In Brennan's defense he was very helpful in making this video 😁
The Hobby Trains set really was a milestone, I'm sure it played a role in Pierre Normandin (who designed three of the models) eventually joining the company. He was the lead designer for the Maersk train as well as many other sets. If only Lego still cared about trains!! 😭
@@BatteryPoweredBricks the more I find out about this set, the more I like it! The fact that the 10 designers basically had 3 weeks to submit designs and made 80! Other great/ famous builds the designers have made over the years. It being the last 9V train era Lego released, and so on!
The adaptation is really smart and the end result looks fab...
Wow, it looks great. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching 😀
That looks great. I did have to laugh at the Frankensteined test version as I have done similar “testing” when building mocs myself lol
Very cool modification, and so useful! It's incredible that you've spent so much time on the instructions, I totally wouldn't have the patience for that. The 10183 is still missing in my collection, one day I'll have it as wel... One day...
Thanks Arjen! It took me a while to come around to digital building / instructions but in the end it makes it much easier to prototype and have a parts list that's one click to add to a Bricklink wanted list. I'm still learning the instructions part, it's this weird problem where you have to add the steps as you go but will always have changes to make later. I am getting better at it and it's something I want to do for the AFOL community, a real labor of love.
I feel like the 10183 is often forgotten in the AFOL community but it's a great story and very impressive they came up with so many models (over 100) in 3 weeks!
I kinda want to build this one now, excellent build and I like your solutions.
What a fabulous idea! Very well executed. Thank you. I purchased 10183 just a few months ago and this is an excellent way to motorized it.
I do have to admit that Brennan is taking this maybe a bit too far :). I like your approach much better - as opposed to being a completionist, you seem to get the most out of each set you get your hands on. Kudos on that!
Thanks! Yeah I've never been much of a collector. I'd rather have lots of trains rather than a few 100% complete / period accurate ones. No shade to those that are collectors it's just not my cup o' tea
Its a great looking model, nice job with the PU upgrades.
Thanks for linking my playlist! Only now realising how old that series is! 0_0
My how the years fly by 😅. I was glad to see someone on TH-cam had reviewed each build! I half expected to see a playlist with a few videos (not a comment about you but TH-camrs in general) but you followed through and got all of them done!
@@BatteryPoweredBricks It took 2 months to do it all! And I haven't double checked but I don't know of anyone else who has done such a series
Even with recent searches I didn't see any others. But then again TH-cam search isn't what it used to be. I tend to get 8 or so results before getting completely unrelated "people also watched" and "recommended for you" results 🙄
Thanks for this video. I have an opportunity to buy a second hand 10183 and debating if I should go ahead and do it 🙂
Sure thing! I really enjoyed the locomotive. A lot of the folks in my discord have been building the alternate models, and then of course there's Brennan Huff being an overachiever 😂. For me it made more sense to part it together with a few mods but I know some folks like to have the complete original set.
An awesome looking engine, Holger's builds are great, this one looks more sturdy than the little BR80. I like the little upside down tile as the solution for the keeping the cabling smooth when turning. Nice.
Thanks! I only learned about the inverted tiles somewhat recently, hard to believe they've been in sets since 2012
I don't know BriskTsar 0:39 but he reminds me of someone 😅
Great video.
Hmm, not decided yet if i want to have a similar crocodile...
Yeah that was pointed out in Discord 😅
That thing looks awesome!! I love it. LEGO factory is such a weird and fascinating chapter of the LEGO storybook. Really like your model.
Also trying to buy every LEGO train ever made... thats a big goal, I'd imagine. Space-wise and wallet-wise, yikes!
In the US one of the main barriers is the 12v trains. Not that that's stopped folks from trying 😅
The. Issue with the LEGO design is that the front and or rear parts come off if the track isn’t perfectly level. I tried running it on our Club layout at a show and it kept coming apart.
Interesting. If I have any issues with it I'll see what I can figure out. Were the front and back too light? Maybe add a bit of weight inside both ends?
How do you get the buwizz connected to the lego controller?
I was confused at first but you mean for the switchtracks at the end of the video. I'm using the Brick Automation Project software on a PC. The software hasn't been updated since 2020 so it doesn't support the BuWizz 3 and reversing direction doesn't work. I have a video showing the basics of the program "Controlling Lego Trains from a PC"
