I pieced together two of the tanker wagons using period correct parts best thing is the quarter cylinder panels are still a current part and the 8x8 dishes in white were used as recently as 2021.
I don't have Metroliner set nor the funds to acquire one. I haven't looked into it much but I don't think there are modern parts I could use to build one cheaper
There was a guy making western sets with trains in them, he made renders of the boxes and everything. I forgot where I saw that but it was really cool to see, the trains definitely had My Own Train vibes
I have pieced together 10170 using period correct parts, it is quite easy as there are not that many train parts in that set and got aftermarket stickers was a lot cheaper than buying that set from bricklink. I also pieced together 10128 and currently working on a second 10133 after getting the train baseplate that is exclusive to that set for cheap.
Very cool builds! I especially enjoyed your instruction on Bricklink Studio! I want to create a B&O Railroad EMD #51 replica but have been reluctant to use the Studio. Thank you!
I was very reluctant too, I had PTSD from playing Lego Creator decades ago 😅. I started by building official sets in Studio to get used to it and then started making my own mods and MOCs. It was one of the best things I've ever done in my Lego hobby

Those wagons + TTX intermodal + freight wagons from 10183 would make a great cargo train :D

I made a similar hopper with a split level base. The dumping works much better if you open both sides left and right together.

the modern 1x2 bricks with clip in blue are 6335309 , 0.23€ on the PAB

I think the black cheese wedge pieces are perfect as they look like chunks of coal.
They dont dump well but they look nicer.
I certainly have a surplus of them 😅. I still may use them but attach them to a plate so it's not such a liability in a derailment 😮

Derailed into trains. LOL. The color swap looks good and is for sure cheaper.
Hind sight is 20-20 😅, I think I like the white better too. Although it can be a harder color to match 🤔
The My own train theme almost has a Western feel to it except some of the wagons are too modern and somewhat similar to 3225
