I am a lifetime fan of Lego and an eternal student of Science and Technology. Lego enabled me at a very young age to learn so much about mechanical and electrical concepts. This hobby... no this lifestyle, has given me so much over the years. It is my goal to share my knowledge and passion with the Lego community as they have done with me. Play Well!
I finally got an Emerald Night Lego train! (10194)
Huge thanks to @michaelleith4938 (leithy1991) for sending this over! This was a set I never expected to own and I'm very excited to make some upgrades in the future.

Converting my Lego TTX intermodal wagons to 8 wide
มุมมอง 9K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
It's always kind of bothered my 10170 Lego TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car sets had such small containers compared to my other intermodal wagons based on the design from the Maersk set. In this video we'll be upgrading them with a design I found on Rebrickable (linked below). I think this will help them fit in with my other Lego rolling stock much better. I had an idea to use trans-fluorescent green 1x1 round bricks to have the hopper be a sulfur wagon as opposed to a coal wagon - then they retired their trans-fluorescent colors 😢
12:54 Someone needs to add a layout schematic to his switchboard! 😉
Hey man I tried this and nothing is happening with my dual motors. Is there a wiring diagram available? Am I correct in believing that if I take a multimeter and check all four pins stud sides of one connector there should be no continuity?
There are links in the description to where I found the information on Eurobricks. I know there was at least one diagram I used from that. It's easy to make a mistake and do things backwards. If the PU plug is unplugged there should be no continuity between the pins on the PF connectors. If there is you have a short
Awesome thanks, will this adapter work on regular firmware? Or do I need to update to pybricks ?
Excellent! Thank you very much!
Fun to see a dedicated collector. Only got a few but fun looking back. Now it´s nice with the fleet but maybe and hear me out. You used the Shark Spy and Predator and turned them into the Alt build you see on the box behind. Now these did´t come with the box but you can find them online. No instructions but fun if you want warriations. I get it not the point it´s the main build that matters for the fleet.
I used to have some of the boxes to the Aquazone sets I bought in the mid 2000's on eBay. I wish I had kept them! I'll have to look at some of the alt builds and see what catches my eye
how do you get the 4.5 volt plugs in large quantities and how do you attach them to the 9v wire?
I purchased a few lots over the years on eBay and other sites. I've heard you can find single plugs online that fit and work just fine but I've never used them. As for attaching them they just have screws to hold the wires in place
What about the 9v connection tips?
If you are asking where to get them the only source is buying old used cables. I've bought lots of them on eBay and other sites. If there is ever a source for blank connectors I will definitely share with everyone, but I kind of doubt it would happen.
You think you can try to make one for power functions? Does somewhat the same principles apply ?
I made a simple PF cable tester that's shown in later videos but honestly it's probably easier to just use a multimeter
LEGO kinda made cooler catalogs than FischerTechnik in the 90s, FischerTechnik also made trains in the early 80s for their 6V system
I did have a few FischerTecknik sets as a kid but nothing with motors. I never knew they had trains 👀
@@BatteryPoweredBricks yeah they used H0 gauge tracks and hat special holdees for the mini-motors where they were to be installed. I have an Pneumatic set, robotics(computing) set, and sets for elektronics statics and elektromechanics. From the 60s all the way to the currant years. And the 814 transformers don't put 6.8 volts any more rather 15V that is way to much. They had also RC Sets for normal 80s RC transmitters for stuff like RC cars. I know that, because a Website has a catalogs from the 60s all the way to the pressent years. The Axle System from Lego is also better because the gears don't rely on frictions like with Fischertechnik axles
That is the best LEGO train there is. The Maersk is up there too. And you got an extra carriage??? Dang, that is very cool. Congrats, man!
It would be funny to do 11 Locomotives with 1 container-car instead of the other way. I wonder how locomotives are needed to pull the other 'dead' locomotives and the containercar. Grtz, SG from Belgium 🇧🇪
Lol, that would be a sight to behold 😅
Thank you, Sir! I just got into lego powered up trains and therefore be thankful for any advice.
They're probably the best for making MOC creations, as you don't have to worry about fitting the battery box!
issue i had with mine was the piston rods would bind up using only one of the hole parts as support for the piston rod. i doubled it up to 2 parts on each side which helps a lot!
Yep that's the biggest thing from what I've seen online. I'll be rebuilding mine and I think the pistons will be different anyway
13:25 Dark Azure Maersk Loco - "I wanna be on camera!!!" BPB - "No."
Can you make presentation of lukazi blog ? Ressources are amazing there
Can you make a review of set 1090 and 1092 ?
I don't have 1092. I'd love to make reviews of all the DACTA sets but I haven't gotten around to it despite wanting to for years. I imagine they wouldn't do very good on TH-cam so I guess I subconsciously stick to topics that will reach more people
@BatteryPoweredBricks I found the instructions on-line for 1090 and 1092 in pdf
Thank you.I will try to connect my phone with flysky 10ch transmitter and brick controller 2 app to make it work
So incredibly useful, thank you for sharing it!
Happy Christmas. I think the emerald night will find a nice spot in between the other rolling stock. Maybe one day I will get one, but I found a cheap monorail last year so no complaints about finding whishlist sets. Happy building. Grtz, SG from Belgium 🇧🇪
Ooo, ya know, this really inspires me to do a small steam shunter locomotive.. Probably not one that's self powered, and maybe one that isn't in this exact style, but something similar! Actually, I'ma gonna go sketch something in Studio now!
¿4.5?
In a bulk lot I found a coach and I think 75% of the tender. Parts of the locomotive were in it but not much else.
Hey just the coach is worth quite a lot! Believe me I've been pricing them 😅. I'll probably end up going with third party windows to save most of the cost
Close the doors that Will probably help
Yeah when watching the footage back I thought about the doors on the tender
Nice
Instead of the fiberoptic, you could just buy some acrylic round of the right diameter and cut it to lenth. It would be really cheap and behaves the same way. Its how you make "light pipes" that are commonly used in commercial electronics products.
I like the fiber optic elements since they are a bit flexible and don't have to be exact. I haven't ran these engines in a while so I guess I need to soon
@@BatteryPoweredBricks yeah, the best part is always the part you have! Keep it in mind if you run short and want to move light between locations in a model though. The lights on the Control Lab are all done using light pipes... 25 of them... I accidentally dropped them all out earlier in the week 😆
You aren't the only one, I've done it myself and one of our discord members just did the same thing yesterday 😅
@@BatteryPoweredBricks Glad it isn't just me! I wanted to see what Microcontroller it used. Thankfully I heard them start falling and none of them got away. I made my own light and temperature sensors for it, I don't have many of the official sensors. It's been my Christmas project.
Lego requires you to download their app. to your phone, go through the tedious calibration process, and then not allow you to test your model to its limits, instead they make you follow their boring tutorial on the simplest of things. Lego, you piss me off to no end. Not only are you too expensive, but you treat me like a child. How dare you! Mould king is simple, turn on the power brick, turn on the Rc unit, then go and whatever happens, happens. Lego is for nanny state pussies. Mould king lets you find out what you can and cannot do. Lego is overpriced; Mould King is not. We are not truly alive unless we have to overcome obstacles in our life. Unless we have to find solutions to problems. I would much rather seek the solution to a problem with a Mould King kit for half the price of a Lego kit that treats me like a child. Mould King is from China; I only wish that a competitor would arise within the US.
I know, not very original to dump The Orient Express, but looking at this...yeah...
managed to get my hands on one back in 2020, cost me a pretty penny but it was worth it, and at the moment i have it in the place of the Polar Express, and so far the only issue i had with it was that the wheels would lock up but it was fixed after finding the right tutorial, and i think it's the best engine in the collection
I have some experience because I have built myself a few of these in different colors. I have two advices to avoid the derailing issues: Check the "Emerald Night fix" topic on Eurobricks and do the mod what the topic owner did in the first post. Change the 1x5 liftarm (32017) to an 1x7 (32065). After these mods, the derailing will be completely gone.
I've seen some of those posts before, I might play around with it a bit first but in the end it will be completely rebuilt once the parts arrive to make BritishBricks version
Good day, I want to ask a question, I have a 6ch dumbo rc transmitter and receiver and I assume that I also need an esc regulator for that, could you recommend someone whose motor terminal can be modified to PF lego connectors so that I can use 4 buwizz motors? ?thank you
There's a ton of ways to go about it, I haven't really messed with this stuff in quite a while. There may be others who have advice to give but sometimes you just have to try things and see what works
I extended the tender and put 2 x 9volt motors under it to pull 5 wagons 😉
Cool, totally awesome! I’ve personally got one, hooked up to good old fashioned 9V in the tender and first class carriage. I also managed to get two extra cars for mine, both fully authentic Lego. Got each of the window frames from Germany for the third class carriage, and got the second class one off of eBay. Also had to remove the internal drive train in the engine to reduce friction for the 9V motors and add a pair of black weighted bricks to the tender for motor to track cohesion. Oh, and the pistons will need to be double thickness to avoid locking when in reverse, specifically that technic piece that the axle sticks through on the piston needs to be doubled up. Well, that’s all, enjoy your new Gresley A3 Steam Locomotive! Rockatoa, Brickticks out! Oh, and Merry Christmas from all of me at Brickticks Engine Works Narrow L-Gauge Engine Builders.
At this point I think I'm going to build BritishBricks version, I doubt I could get anywhere close on my own. Then I will make any necessary modifications to the valve gear. Merry Christmas
as someone who built an extra car for my own emerald night earlier this year, that is one heck of an add-on. I'm sure its been brought up already but those train windows in tan are set exclusive and cost between $15-$30 EACH. I went official and paid the price for it but if I end up extending it further im going 3rd party for sure. That pricing is insane
For sure, everyone in our discord is saying to go with BlueBrixx for the windows. I may shop around and see what's out there but I won't be buying official windows 😬
I wonder how much you had to pay for this sucker?? 😂 Cuz i got mine, around the same time that it actually was released, & have had mine, ever since! Lol
Well like I said I didn't pay anything for it, the viewer who sent it got it in a large lot of Lego trains and he already had a few Emerald Night sets so he decided to send this one to me
@@BatteryPoweredBricks nice!
Hey battery power bricks are you going to make a commuter train and merry Christmas
At this point I have too many trains and a few commuter trains already. I do plan on modifying the Emerald Night in future videos though. Merry Christmas
Remove the brickbuilt thing between the wheels in the tender
Yeah I think it was the little doors on the tender and the wire for the motor causing the derailments. I didn't try too hard to fix it since I'll be switching to Powered Up along with other mods anyway
Close the doors that Will probably help
No way you have the emerald night awesome please make a video for cheap emerald night wagons
I do want to get more cars for sure. I may end up getting windows from BlueBrixx, that should make them way cheaper to part together
What a wonderful gift. You have been well rewarded for your inspiring channel. Love your work and many thanks to @michaelleith4938 for the generosity.
4559 is such a good set man. I still have mine, all set up, still bring it out every so often. "Oh but it's unrealistic", "oh but it looks like a bumblebee" yeah yeah, that's just cope, every kid was jelly I had it and I'd like to think they still are.
It will always be one of my favorites. I like some realism here and there but it's never a requirement for my Lego trains 😁
9V for life son
What a legend! Best of luck with the mods! I’m now exciting to start remodelling my Emerald Night again. Not going to hold back this time…
I'm really looking forward to see what you come up with! I ordered some BigBensBricks wheels, I may just try to do the mod you made a video on. The more I looked at it the more I was like "this is it" 😅
I love your MOC a lot man! I re-made it in Bricklink as well for later! 😅
Hi, where can I find this drive for my NXT windows 11?
I'm not sure, I still don't have any of my PCs running Windows 11 so I can't do any testing. The driver I used on Windows 10 may work but I don't know if they made any changes for legacy driver support
@@BatteryPoweredBricks Hi man, I got it now I can use with my window 11 24H2 I can share it if necessary.
Awesome! Well deserved.
Hi from Hamburg, Northern Germany! Just a short tip: I extended my Emerald Knight with some more cars, mainly using bulk part packs from BlueBrixx. They have the classic train windows in several colours, including tan, for a very acceptable price - and 100% compatible to TLG ;)
Yep! It's been brought up in the discord a few times that they are a great source for train windows. If I do end up extending the train I'll probably go that route
I recently built a sort of Emerald Knight clone to run as a Christmas train for a local event, and after a week of it running continuously, the big thing that I had to pay attention to to make sure it didn't derail was to make sure there was ample slack in the wires between the tender and the locomotive. It's really easy to leave enough slack that you THINK it won't derail, but then it does. There's more motion than you think between the tender and the cab... Your train derailing looks kinda the way mine did, so I'd make sure the wires aren't getting caught on anything.
That was in the back of my mind but I'll be switching to Powered Up anyway. If I do any more testing it will be on a table now that the layout has been taken down. That will make it much easier to see what is going on
