As a diesel instructor at a technical college, your product/educational videos would be 1,000,000 times mores informative and helpful if you would use before and after pics/vids of a the product you’re discussing.

Nice trick for not getting chips/ shavings in a place you can't remove them. Drip drill bit in heavy bearing grease and keep speed low. Grease captures the chips and none get inside. ( do the same thing with the tap.

I've got one of these kits for a 1940 Ford axle I have. What's the best location for the vent? Top obviously but should it be the center section. I wish I could see a picture.

When doing the open drive conversion the vent needs to be installed somewhere between the third member bearings and the housing flange on the end by the brakes. It will be installed on the top side in an area clear of any other suspension or frame components.

what do you know about the columbia rearends, that were two speeds. i believe that were called mountain rearends and shifted by vacuum. do you have anything on these?

Columbia two speed rear ends are wonderful! It can be difficult finding a good one, but they are period perfect for an old hot rod! Some of the fellows that I’ve talked to about Columbia’s say that you need to buy two or three before you’ll find one usable rear end. We don’t know if that’s true or not, but back in the day these were a really trick piece. It would drop a typical V-8 Ford going 55 mph from 2713 RPM to a leisurely 1940 RPM. It’s a great way to achieve an overdrive without messing around with the transmission! I’ve actually been looking for one of these for my 40 Ford, but they’re getting tougher and tougher to find!

I have a 1940 Ford coupe. Can I replace the original center section with a quick change center, while retaining the original outer tubes? I realize this may include the replacement of the outside bearings. Would the outside bearings work if replaced by the Torino bearing setup? Thank you

It is very possible to change the center section out to a quick change setup and retain the factory bells. I believe it still requires machine work to the pinion but we do not stock a part to make this happen. If you get in touch with Winter’s they can help get you the parts you need to do this swap!
