It’s not “selfish” to not want to devote their life to having kids that they don’t even want, but it IS incredibly selfish and awful to act as if you deserve grandkids for fulfilling the bare minimum expectation that is being a good parent. Nobody asked you to make whatever “sacrifices” you made, you CHOSE to have kids, they didn’t chose to be yours. You don’t get a pat on the back for fulfilling your obligations and not being outright neglectful. You’re not a martyr, if you want praise and respect from them in their adulthood then you have to earn it. Although by telling them that you’re leaving them nothing unless they agree to live THEIR lives how YOU want them to, you’re actually not being a great parent at all, so I’d say they owe you even less. If anything, having kids is the objectively selfish decision. You’re literally creating a life solely for your own emotional benefit and then asking them to be eternally grateful for it, a decision that was motivated entirely by your own feelings. Also no, focusing on your career is a way to get LONG-TERM happiness, meanwhile having children doesn’t 100% guarantee any happiness at all, especially if they’re unwanted. This is a stupid sentiment and you’d be a horrible parent. Don’t have kids, seriously. You’re clearly not cut out for it.
