Nightwish is among my favorite metal bands. Been a fan of them since 2005. My personal listing of the overall Nightwish albums: 1 - Oceanborn 2 - Once 3 - Imaginaerum 4 - Dark Passion Play 5 - Wishmaster 6 - Century Child 7 - Yesterwynde 8 - Endless Forms Most Beautiful 9 - Human II Nature 10 - Angels Fall First
Thanks for your ranking. I discovered Nightwish in 2000, when a good friend of mine lent me the album "Wishmaster" to listen to. Masterpiece. They say there's a theory that the first album you listen to from a band is the one you like the most. In this case it's true for me 🍻
@@JuanmaEternal Well, I prefer your ranking and I would probably only switch top 4 depending on the mood of the day, but I do enjoy diplomacy and civility of your responses.
Definitely didn’t see Wishmaster coming at number 1. Maybe this is a hot take, but I think that while Anette is the least talented Nightwish singer, her two albums are Tuomas’ peak as a composer. Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum for days!!
Thank you very much for your comment and your respect, something that has been somewhat lacking in the comments of this video. It's all a matter of taste. Nightwish is a band that has had different eras with various singers, and they have all been good 🍻
Never expected that you'll place my favorite Nightwish album, first on your list. As the list was unfolding, i would thought, "Now it will show up!".😂 The other two albums that complete my top-three are "Oceanborn" and "Once"...
OK, everyone is going to have their own list and this is never going to be objective. Steve Harris, of Iron Maiden, is cited as liking Dark Passion Play over the Tarja era, for example. I'm not keen on it, but prefer Imaginaerum, which I'd rank above Endless Forms (which I couldn't get into). H2N, though, I really liked. (I love Floor and Tarja as singers, but most of the songs I like are from early to mid Nightwish. However, there's also a lot of Tarja songs I really don't think work, certainly not for me.) There's never going to be an objective list, there's never going to gecan objective study, because "best" and "worst" aren't objective concepts, not for art. I suppose you could objectively measure complexity and compositional quality, then multiply these totals with the sum of album sales and TH-cam views, to give a combined measure of sophistication and popularity, but I'm still not sure that would be "worst" to "best".
Thanks for your comment. All these videos are based on personal preferences, nothing more. I'm putting the values of all the albums in an excel file. Something like this: www.mediafire.com/file/1huj5gmlp1q4d4c/In_Metal_We_Trust.xlsx/file I started working on it since February. I know I have to be locked up in a mental hospital 🙃
Have listened to Nightwish off and on since 2000. Off and on because I could never get totally on board back on the early albums they released. I found Tarja’s voice so grating and lacking the proper warmth Tuomas’s songs needed. I preferred Within Temptation and Epica, Stratavarius and Kamelot, back in those days regardless of how mighty the songwriting was of NW. Even though Annette wasn’t the greatest of replacements, she was still easier to listen to and the songwriting began to shine through more, without the Tarja histrionics. I apologise to all the fans out there, but full operatic vocalising can grate if it isn’t varied enough and mixed with contemporary stylings. In steps Floor, and for me, she is everything Tuomas needed. She is a rare vocalist. Possibly one of the greatest ever. She gave the colour and emotion to the old songs needed in my opinion. Yesterwynde is a magnificent album. One of their very best. Some of Tuomas’s best songwriting. To have it at No.9 makes you come across as a dinosaur. Old Nightwish is exactly that. The unity the band shows now shows out in their music.
Honestly, I agree with you on almost everything: ●I was never a big fan of Tarja's voice. Anette's voice was very nice and seemed very natural. And what I liked most about her is that she never tried to imitate Tarja. A great success. ●And Floor Jansen is spectacular. She is probably the best voice in Metal. She has all the registers that exist. I'm curious to hear her sing Morbid Angel songs. I'm sure she would do it perfectly 😂 ●The truth is that I like the Tarja Turunen era albums more than the later ones, but it's all a matter of personal priorities, nothing more. I love listening to and reading everyone's opinions, because I know perfectly well that I am not going to learn anything from my opinions. What I do not agree with: ●"Yesterwynde" seemed to me to be an album with brilliant moments, but no memorable songs from beginning to end. I listened to it for 8 hours at work, without stopping... and I couldn't, the album defeated me. It's probably my fault for not being able to get all the good juice out of the album and I might have to listen to it again. Thanks for your comment and for watching the video of this humble channel 🤘
Well, not exactly. Floor Jansen is the best vocalist Nightwish has ever had, much better and with more vocal registers than Tarja or Anette, but I consider, very humbly, that Nightwish's best era was with Tarja Turunen. But it's just a personal opinion, nothing more. My opinion is the least important here 🤘
I think Floor is one of the best singers in all of music, maybe a bit too good for what I want from Nightwish. With Tarja and Anette more creative writing was required and it gave some rawer emotional load. Tarja sounds more witchy/ghostly bringing a certain fantasy vibe, while Floor brings a more angelic sound. Nostalgia can be a good thing, but in cases like mine they can also get in the way of things. I also want to like Left on Mars, the voices are familiar but the sound isn’t.
@@Bas-TB Floor is the best Metal singer for me. And the worst thing is that she is underused in Nightwish. The music of these Finns doesn't allow her to show what a great vocalist she is. Her work in After Forever was amazing. Every time I listen to "Energize Me" I get teary-eyed. What a voice!! Thanks for your comments 🍻
@@JuanmaEternalThis week had me hooked on among other songs, Everybody Dies and Valley of the Queens both with Floor. The first got me excited for when Floor’s part is coming even though the rest is great as well. While in Vally of the Queens it is again a bit too angelic and clean for me, but it works really well the story and Anneke’s lead.
@@JuanmaEternal I am going to both agree and disagree with you on Energize Me. I do think it sounds great, but it might be underusing her full range. It seems a more natural way of singing with more warmth. Her voice is like that in certain Nightwish songs, but it is rare. The couple of songs from the new album Yesterwynde have it, but I struggled even listening to this 3 singles. With Anette the second album was a lot better than the first, it felt like they got to know each other. So I had maybe to high hopes Endless Forms Most Beautiful would be followed up with a similar impoverishment. But it is going down hill, not just for me. As they are on a hiatus because they are burning out and they don’t rule out a 30th anniversary tour in 2027. I really hope they find their way back to a better place.

@@JuanmaEternal Yeah, old Nightwish fans are gonna be similar in thoughts to our rankings. Tuomas needs to turn the page and make something different, this "trilogy" was like the movies, the 1st one was the best (Endless Forms), we need something else and use Floor properly
@@JuanmaEternal While Floor has some voice, my introduction to Nightwish was with her on the live 'Showtime, Storytime' add to that her out of this world version 'Phantom of the Opera' with Henk Poort, but the recent albums to me are disappointing. When I reach for a Nightwish album these days, it's usually one of the earlier ones as I think Tuomas was more able to do more with Tarja's voice !!
@@JP-lm9vi Same here. The last few albums are disappointing and lacking creativity. When I listen to Nightwish it's always the albums from "Oceanborn" to "Once". And Tuomas doesn't know how to get the best out of Floor and it's a shame. It's like having Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez, Busquets, Iniesta, Jordi Alba, Ter-Estegen, Rakitic in your football team and only winning one Champions League. Ridiculous 🤣
