As Tuomas implied in a recent interview, in this song, Floor represents the evil of what the world may be facing (and, in my opinion, taking on a role previously reserved for Marko) while the children's choir represents the hope for a better and brighter outcome and future. I absolutely love this as well as Perfume of the Timeless. I am anxiously biding my time for the upcoming September release of the entire album.

    • @scw55
      @scw55 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +20

From the video footage itself, since Floor is "afflicted" in the same way as the people she's administering to, it suggests she is not the cause of the system, but she's certainly complicit in the system. And she experiences a crisis of belief in the system and wibblywobbly visuals begin.
It's an interesting artistic concept the whole package.

The way the band has been amping up the cinematic elements alongside the auditory is insane. It’s a meta experience. You can consume either or and still receive the message - we are human, a blink of an eye in the cosmic play, and we must appreciate what we have and beauty available while we live and thrive. Regardless of religion and belief, we are one. “We were here.”

This keeps getting better with every listen. (The cranks must have only listened once.) There's a lot that you don't hear (or see) on the first few trips. I'm still hearing new things in the instrumental break.

They don't talk about certain things officially in interviews and stuff, while other artists (ab)use their influence heavily to spread their own agenda, and to push the side they are on. Nightwish takes a different approach. They encourage independent thought, then poignantly express their stance through their music. I deeply admire it!💛

Tuomas has decided to write songs about mankind, its great discoveries, art, music, science but also its awful sides, manipulation, greed, wars and using fear in societys and as a political tool. All this good and bad we humans do in a paradise planet which could provide meaningful life to all if we come to our sences. Nightwish songs are very positive and greatly layered and leaves you uplifted after listening to it. To make a song of fear itself (or as a tool) makes no sence to write it with positive lyrics. The Day Of...is great in every respect and it leaves you thinking about that fear matter, which is important. Sometimes I think that Nightwish was hired by UN to educate us rockn roll humans.😊😊

  • @Lotta-t5p

First off I really like this song and its new sound, I love it when they do something new and also try different ways of doing the verses (also great pronunciation by Floor). And as always the lyrics are absolutely brilliant. I also have to say that having the children's choir sing the refrain is a great idea and for those who complain about this, it literally says "We are the ill-starred kids...".
The only thing I would have liked them to do more with is the part after the amazing instrumental part. It's such a nice build-up just to immediately slow down again and start with another verse? I know they can do much better. I usually like how they play with qieter/silent moments but I think it doesn't fit at this point of the song.
I have to agree with others when saying that Floor's voice is not used to its full potential. I adore her operatic head voice, which I've missed in the latest albums, and I think they could have done something a bit more dramatic after that instrumental part with her voice and maybe some dark violins so it feels more dramatic. But the ending of the song is very well done and sounds very cool.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the album!

Also, my impressions from this single, are that it was meant to be a single; and I believe that the contract with the producer must include short length songs.

Took me a moment to get into this one on first listen, but it’s rapidly growing on me. There’s something deeply intriguing about this song that I can’t quite put my finger on, and it makes me want to go back and listen to it a dozen more times just so I can absorb what’s happening musically and what is being said lyrically. Like, there’s some serious depth to this one and I’m not quite getting it yet, but I want to understand it. I suspect this one’s gonna be a banger if they ever do it live, that bridge section is phenomenal.
    -
2nd watch, I am really digging this song, and I’m deeply disturbed by it. There’s something here that’s just giving me dread and I can’t quite put my finger on it yet. The combination of the music and the video images is really something, they do such good music videos these days. I think I’m starting to understand it more, I feel like they’re talking about fear-mongering and how it’s used to manipulate and control people, and how we just lap it up, but it’s hard to tell without the lyrics available just yet. At least, that’s the vibe I’m getting from the music and the video.

I'm with you 100% wasn't too sure when I first heard it, then replayed it a second time, then a 3rd and 4th.
And I think you're right about what the meaning behind the song is too, at least partially; it's not just about how other use fear to manipulate us and we're complicit in it, it's also about how we actively find the worst and darkest parts and focus on that. There are a couple of lines in the third verse; 'A need to feel dread, gloom, awe, A lust for never-ending doom porn', which describes this perfectly.
And in the clip, the men are sitting down, unrestrained, and raise their hand voluntarily to have eyedrops applied, rather than in say 'A Clockwork Orange' with a similar scene where the main character is restrained and has to be forced in order to watch the horrific images being flashed at him from the screen.

This song is the demonstration, even if there was no need, that you don't play, you don't sing, you don't act... you are the VIBRATION THAT CREATES LIFE. You are and will always remain in my soul. I send you lots of Light. Kisses from Italy 🇮🇹❤️.

Mám viac ako 65 a asi pred 1,5 rokom som našiel skladbu od Nightwish Amarath a očarila má. Odvtedy počúvam denno denne skladby aké od Nightwish existujú a doslova som pri nich omladol. Dodávajú mi silu, kľud a pokoj a dobrú náladu. Dúfam že ich skladby budem môcť počúvať ešte dosť dlho. Zdravim zo Slovenska ❤
