I don't know how it was before 1.0 full release, but this place is now VERY dangerous for new players. An orb weaver patrols right in that area, there's mosquitos on the edge of the pond right there, and all of the spiders can jump up onto the leaves now. Wolf spiders and orb weavers will easily climb up there.
I built there in my new 1.0 game. Yes there are constant orb weavers around, early game they where easy to escape using the leaf and now I'm mid-game and I can kill them easy. Nothing ever came up. I had the occasional wolf spider, that's still not something I can easily kill but again I can escape them easily by climbing back to my base and they leave me alone. Mosquitos never come around there they are far enough.
I started mine by the juice box by the backside of the pond and in front of the big oak tree. I put water containers by the straw and they catch water. I built a large staircase and bridge to the stone building in the pond. When up there I built a walkway up the upper area where the grill is. Then off the walkway I built ziplines to and from anywhere I need to go including berrytown(the berry bushes).
I built in this exact spot on my world, its been good to me so far. Am more an experienced player tho, good central location, easy escape from predators via the leaf, access to scanner nearby, lots of food and water, am 56 days in and have yet to be raided at all in this location. Built a simple hexagonal base with a balcony and stairs leading to lower log next door as my bulkier items area. Have 0 defences apart from the natural defence of being elevated and indoors. 100% no problems...yet
My base has and will always be next to the cherry juice box on the big rock right beside the pond: I have Mushrooms, Acorn Bits, Aphids, Weevils for food, Container under the straw of the juice box for Cherry juice + dew drops. I can harvest and gather almost every resorce from where i am and it's right next to BURG-L. For the spiders i put up doors to lock them up from leaving the tree and the fence making it the perfect area 😊
I actually have my base off the side of the rocks. From the top of the rocks, you cant even see it. It simply has a clay ramp as far down as you can get almost touching the water and you then build the floor off that with the buoyancy floor. It is far enough down for the roof to still be below the level of the rocks. Its built out from the rocks going around the pond as far as I want. I then have pathways across the pond and hop across the lilypads and can get all the way down to the other end of the pond. I like it because its hidden away and totally safe. For the bugs revenge I have the sleepout in the middle of the pond on a lilly pad and they cant get there lol but its only a quick walk to it from the main house off the side of the rocks. It looks amazing when your on the pond and look back, the whole side of the house facing the pond is open and I have played around with the lights, different colours in different parts and I love it at night sitting in the armchair chilling out looking back at the house and lighting effects.
No predators there? That whole fence line is a path for orb weavers. It’s close to wolf spider and within eye sight of mosquitoes. New players should stay closer to the mysterious machine or maybe even higher on the roots or baseball. That close to that many spiders early on seems to be a fast way to get raided over and over.
Well, though the fence is quite a literal ‘Double edged sword’ but with fence sides, there is always the retreat to the pond in Emergency Escapes, or even a possible timing of enemy attacks to hit surrounding bugs E.g. Ladybugs… However, do know I’m Only focused on my point for now, And I’m aware that lots of different points can be made here
My 1st base is next to the juice box by the oak and next to the pond alot of spiders wonder around but if your fast u can wall off your base before they become an issue
I prefer to build inside the Pond Stone Lantern, since it has a ton of things going for it; 1. It's 100% safe, no enemies spawn there at all, better yet because of its location, you will never receive payback attacks in retaliation for your actions either. 2. Easy food access. There are three tadpoles in the water below that respawn daily, and Tadpole meat is one of the best non cookery foods in the game. And algae that make for good snacks. 3. In camp scanner. The stone lantern has a field station in it, which is now in your base, so no need to hoof it anywhere to scan your stuff. 4. Lots of space vertically. If you somehow need more space than what the huge floor allows, you can just build upwards. 5. The location of the stone lantern is in the perfect spot that you can build a tower that will allow you to zip line close to every major area of interest in the game, if you set it up correctly, you could even just connect to the Sandbox zip line anchor. (It's a very finicky positioning to do, however) You are also so lose to the upper yard jungle you could easily make a ladder up there, or just bridge from the zip line tower. 6. Very close to the tree. Again the location is just great, and while it will take a bit more time, since you would have to parkour/swim/zip/walk over the extra 30 seconds is worth the extra safety. 7. The Crow. It lands on the lantern at regular intervals and drops feathers you can harvest to make feather arrows, the bed and the marksman hat. While the arrows and the hat is only useful for archers/crossbow users, it's still a convenience to have the Crow so readily available. Downsides; 1. No water on site until you build dew collectors, which will require that you manually build a path or a zip line anchor to get the materials needed to do so. 2. The Koi sleeps in the waters close to the lantern, near the wall to the left when looking towards the tree. As such, taking nightly swims could be dangerous. However, the Koi will not aggro on anything above the surface, so traversing a path is safe, even if it goes right above the Koi's head.
I feel like the baseball is always a good choice. I always base there & it’s out of the way from most bugs (plus sometimes fireflies will come and say hello so there’s that) but it’s just generally a good base 8.5/10
Until you decide to build there like I did and then while redesigning your base, you happen to break the wrong foundation piece and watch 8 hours of base building fall to the ground and you have nothing left
That sucks bro. But building over there doesnt mean you out of the weed with the bugs. Most bugs yes but for me in the begging the qolf spider from the haze would walk around over there but over all a decent place but the base at the oak tree is more plentiful but on the ground there is larva, wolf and orb weavers there as well. I built a base on the tree an sometimes when i ziplined in id find a wolf spider in my base to kill
My base runs the entire length of those logs I even have a mushroom Castle build around the light right there. Such a great area for a base have been there since day one.
Hey Sim! Personally I like to build in the Jabby Cola can, Wolf Spiders never come there, lots of resources, it’s somewhat safe, just orbweavers and bombardiers and it’s close to the upper yard ascent. (: But your base location is probably better. [:
I built my first base, or Base Baby as I now call it, around the first research station. It was easier since I needed to analyze EVERYTHING! and it turned out to be a relatively safe spot with access to all the resources a baby player needs. Granted it was like the dirt hut all baby minecraft players make and are proud of but it got the job done. My current base is at the pond next to the juice box. I have a bridge to the building in the center of the pond. Glad I built it because the fish goes agro on me now and I don't want to waste stamina swimming. I'm building that area up now and plan to include zip lines to other areas of the yard
So I built here in the full release and noticed something compared to playing about a year ago. Neighboring Orb Weavers wander a LOT more now. So watch out and maybe plan to evict them.
I made a base on the leaf on the stick leaning against the lantern outside of the oak tree and I just platform around the lantern, if you don't wall off the lantern it can be blinding but that's easy to fix, there is also infinite gnat fuz and meat when it turns night and sometimes in the morning. If you don't like the wolf spiders, you can wall off all of the entrances to the oak tree
The best spot is on the Lilypads right by the Oak Tree. You have access to all the resources you need, close to upper yard, can build zipline base in oak tree and land creatures won't get you. Also out or range or mosquitos from all sides.
@@moldysann7083 Not necessarily. I have my base off the rocks on the pond and naturally traverse through there all the time and the wolf spiders are a bitch. Even during the day I will dump into them with no warnings, boom there it is! So Im going to build a walkway up high to run along instead that goes from the wooden log fence to the pond. I am not good at fighting them what with just restarting the game with v1 release and not having good armour or fighting skills. Got bit of a lag on the laptop which doesnt help when in combat
I live on the large bombardier beetle rock by the red ant hill No issues there besides it's noisy and occasionally stinky but there is alot of food and web for my dew catchers I needed Nothing can get my food
I like to build on the highest point of the large root right next to the lamp there. I run up the leaf to get to the top. Bugs don’t bother you up there, just watch out for wolfies at night.
I was just starting to think about making my base on those logs. But every night Mosquitoes seem to spawn and kill me there EVERYTIME bro so its kinda making me wanna move somewhere else but idk where
my base is beside the mysterious machine very good aphids and weevils near by ants may come and pester you but aslong as you make a fence around your house should be okay the spiders never come near me i did have a wandering wolf spider outside my house i fought it from the inside but it should only happen on very rare occasions
I'm just scoping out this location and I'm finding there are too many spiders around (Orb Weaver and Wolf Spiders) during the day. This makes it very dangerous to gather materials in this area. I see the date of this video is about 4 months. I've seen other Youtber videos later than this and the map in their games is radically different to what I see playing as of the New Year 1/1/23. Have the devs and latest updates to this game also meant changes to spawn locations for the more dangerous denizens? Are the spider spawns random or can I expect this area to be very dangerous for someone just starting as of the latest updates? 🙂
id like to think the leaf entrance is safe.,... but ive seen ants jump onto my stairs from rocks lol so with bugs jumping now ... i think no where is really safe anymore lol
Wait until Obsidian a): figure out that bugs can crawl vertically and even upside down on almost any surface and b): figure out how to program their bugs and spiders to do exactly that. :D
haven't played in a while but it's an annoying area to get set up but once you have it organized it's dope. right near a research lab and the fence makes a good highway. when I played nothing bothered me up there for the most part. I've gotten really good at parkour to escape spiders after soooooo many deaths 😳 😅

The wolf spider can jump on top of the fence/log spot. That could pose a problem for new players.

I have my base on top of that I built up a tower and built a walk away over to the one laser and I'm using the laser as a hub for zipline
My main base is on the stone slab at the other end of that fence. Ground bugs can't get up to it. Even in base raids 👌

Don't build near the oak tree when you reload it can spawn the wolf spiders outside of the tree.

I have a mini mushroom fort on the other side of the tree. It's pretty safe and secure
Flowers are pretty.. To bad they don't respawn after being harvested. Well they haven't respawned for me, been over 50 days since I harvested

The biggest problem with the wooden post is trying to use the field station without getting interrupted by orb weavers lol
