Nick's first point here is ON POINT. The simplicity and lack of options allows people to simply drive and enjoy...couldn't agree more.
A refreshing change from BMW
Few options makes the Nick Murray Sign and Drive event at Murray BMW quick and easy.
Awesome review, thank you soo much Nick. I'm now "today" the proud owner of a 16' M2 6-spd. Your honest review assured me that my new and very first BMW, first "M" purchased was an excellent choice.
Remember the review you did back in 15? Audi S3 "Daytona" Launch edition. . .well that is the car I just sold to get the M2 & purchased after viewing your vid even back then Cheers-ADR
How do you like it?
How’s the car been?
I actually like that the interior isn't super fancy and complicated. It makes for a more back to basics driving experience
"Smaller is always better." Yeah, sure... I'm glad she turned you down gently.
you should be at the top !
lmao
*yawwnnnn*
Lol sure. I am not a mandingo and I have never had a woman unhappy with me.
You will never know, because a woman will never tell to your face she is unhappy in the bedroom department.
i think BMW under rates the horse power to keep insurance rates for the car alone down
didnt think of that. smart thinking move, it does make sense
You're right about the fronts and backs of these cars. The M2 is lacking in the back and I think a big part of it is how the fin extends off the trunk on the M4. Looks great.
Good review Nick. I think the M2 is the better choice for a drivers car compared to the M4. The M4 just got too big (4" longer than the e90?). Love the aggressive look of the 2 as well. I was actually eyeing the M2 to replace my e46 m3, but when the official specs came out I saw that it was as heavy as thr m4 but with 60 less HP, so I immediately turned my focus to a 997 C2s (which was my ultimate goal anyway). I wouldn't trade my 911 for an m2 (in fact, I will never drive front engine again) but if I needed 4 seats, this is the one. Also great commentary regarding the CLA. Total econobox POS compared to these other cars.
Completely agree. If I didn't need the back seats I'd go with the 997 or a Cayman GTS (although a bit pricey right now).
A perfect car to this day!
Nick, your reviews are amazing.Today is becoming more and more rare to see a realistic review like yours are.
You are very knowledgeable on Porsches. I would love to see a 997 review from you. I think many people will find it interesting if you can compare head to head 997.2 to a 991.1 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It's incredible that the two cars have similar width. The M2 looks absolutely tiny in comparison in the video. I'm currently shaking with nostalgia. Not only because of the c64 tshirt but also the music. I kept thinking about entering a space station after installing a docking computer for the first time. Have a great day, Nick.
Nice review Nick! Son just picked up 2018 M2! With introduction of the Competition model, regular M2 prices dipped. He was able to pick up a CPO model with 1100 original miles. He’s ecstatic with the vehicle! Have your blessing didn’t hurt! 😜...keep up the stellar and concise reviews!
Glad you like it Nick 🖒🖒🖒
@ 8:30 - Agreed that the leather feels like vinyl and isn't at all tactily pleasing or sumptuous. However, on the upside it WEARS remarkably. I have an '06 330Xi with the Dakota Leather and the stuff looks brand new. It is almost impervious to cracks, fade or shine and still looks new after 10 years (and 75,000 miles).
Great reviews on cars and choppers with a dash of humor. We really enjoy your videos which tend to disprove the theory that Kiwis cant fly.Keep up the good work and cheers from NZ.
I hate commenting on TH-cam but I'm glad to hear your opinion on the car, great video as always.
-M235 owner
It really is fantastic that BMW offer a spectacular driver’s car at a better price by far than it’s competitors. I also like that the M2 is not overwhelmed by buttons and choices. A real gem, I love mine despite having been a Porsche nut for 12 years.
One of your best reviews Nick, great job. Thought you hit many key points, especially about the interior and the real size difference.
Great review Nick, but I'm amazed how there are so few options for the M2 in the US.
In the UK we have all these options that can be added ......... HK stereo, enhanced bluetooth, electric glass sunroof, sun protection glass, folding mirrors, heated steering, electric seats, heated seats, lumber seats, adaptive headlights, high beam assist, comfort access, speed limit display, reversing camera.
Yes indeed, I looked at the UK configurator, most of the UK options are standard on the US model but no Sunroof.
+Nick Murray I don't think a sunroof belongs on the M2. Nice and Spartan; purpose built.
I know this is sort of an old video now but as a former 1 series owner the M2 still fascinates me and I will definitely test drive one when it comes time for my next ride in a year or two. I am frustrated by the lack of adaptive suspension though and have heard that the overly stiff ride on bumpy roads (of which I have plenty around me) is a negative. With the new Audi RS3 being so good it might end up in my driveway just because it will make the better daily.
Nick, BMW no longer offers the 4 year/50,000 mile maintenance program. It is now 3 year/36,000 mile with several exclusions.
Yes and no wear items such as breaks, rotors, clutch etc are included on all 2017 models and on.
I'm gonna love owning one of these when the market value hits bottom! The 1M is preferred by some reviewers. I own some 2000-2003 BMWs and a Boxster, so don't misunderstand, but: You could get a 2017 Camaro SS for $37K with 455ft/lbs or the Camaro Turbo for $26K and 295ft/lbs for some serious performance and lower long term maintenance costs. Our mechanics remind us every time we bring one of our German cars in!
To me the best M currently available. It also increased hope that the next M5 will top everything.
It looks so awesome from the outside but I just feel like that interior is pretty uninspiring especially for 50k.
I wish you could get the cloth/alcantara seats from the m sport models on this car, they would look fantastic.
I agree, the seat apart from the stitching looks ordinary, the instrument cluster looks plain, I heard some materials are plastic and light feeling. For a M car I would like race pedals as standard. But the engine and exterior...beautiful!
youre not in there to feel comfortable and luxury. you're in there to drive. especially if you opt for the 6mt.
their modo isn't "bmw the Ultimate Driving Machine" for nothing. Superior engine and driving dynamics. get an Infinity then
$65k on my BMW.com build. 2013 M6 with opal white full leather and CF aero, conv less than 20k miles $55k
Totally agree. Would be a lot better if there was an option to have white/beige leather - think it would make the interior look far less cramped. I sat in one of these 2 weeks ago and for someone 6'3 I definitely felt claustrophobic (particularly compared to the M3 I sat in 5 minutes later)
Good review vid overall. Both amazing machines and I gotta say, your picture quality in this vid is the best I've seen!
That white-gray lettering on the dials seems like a reminiscence to the E46 M3. They horse power of the M2 and E46 M3 are also quite the same.
The blue Danube is a beautiful song grate choice. Love to drive this car on a mountain road it's that in the background
Great video. Glenns Car Collection owns an M2 just like this and he does a lot of long term ownership reviews on it and comparison tests
my first computer was a commodore 64 .. awesome tshirt ! thanks for the review !
Great review Nick!! But the weight of the m2 is a big disappointment in my book 😐
They should've put a carbon roof on there and trimmed some more fat. Unless they release an M2 CSL down the road. That'd make things interesting!!
SAME weight as M4..
Nick you are EASY in my Top 3 most FAV youtubers! love your quality videos i enjoy every single 1 of them! keep up the good work sir :) cant wait for the porsche to arrive!
We love you Nick. Keep it up your detailed reviews and fantastic cinematography!
Nick you forgot to mention the dealer mark up on these as well as difficulty finding a dealer with allocation. When you factor that in Im not so sure I'd call it a bargain.
I would not allow any dealer to pull that shit, allocation is hard to find but not impossible, there is no reason to pay over sticker.
+Nick Murray haha someone has an opinion about car dealers. I'd choose a cayman over this but I'm a biased cayman owner
@@27Ctrojans Cayman is nice, but M2 is a better value for sure! I'm biased as well I own a M car!
Is that harambe in the back
Dicks out
RIP
yes hello
Harambo
I'm still loving my F30 m sport
I love my M2 , well done BMW
the m2 always stands out among the bmw's
I went from a 320 to a 120 msport and loved it
Yes Neck - it is quite handsome from the rear. And 8 inches certainly is quite a lot.
Nice C-64 shirt also.
C-64 for the win
As a European, it was unsettling seeing 64 degress on your climate control.
As a South-African, i can relate lo
I don't give a fuck
meek miLL seriously though
Pierce Cooke it’s not degrees it’s rather Fahrenheit for Americans
I realize the M drivers package doesn't make much sense in US but in Germany the M drivers package is totally worth its price.
My M3 didn't have it when I bought it and I have regretted it almost every single time I drove it.
I removed the limiter in the meantime and it nows runs over (indicated) 320 kph.
So trust me it is totally worth it.
Should it be included from the get go? Yeah but I think streets are safer if not every BMW (or Audi or Benz etc.) runs over 250 kph.
You can actually have a sunroof, my M2 Coupe got it built in.
I've read somewhere that the way BMW rates the HP of their cars is essentially "it makes no less than ___ HP". Meaning that in the worst weather conditions it will still make the advertised power, instead of it making the advertised power only in the perfect conditions
Strauss. Brilliant choice!
My son just got his m2 ,scared he'll out of his wife first time she rode in it,she won't drive it,what a smart boy!
Good job Nick, thanks for another great review
Great music for a video on this car. Another short and sweet review! Keep up the great work....if one can call it that!
I think the drivers package is not a total ripoff.. (at least not in germany ;) )The training that you get focuses on maneuvers which come in very handy when driving on the Autobahn at 270km/h (lane changes, etc..).
I love your reviews!
I got a question, would you trade the M4 in for the M2
That colour is amazing! really compliments the M2. I need a new car, maybe add the M2 to the list of cars to look at..
That blue is fantastic
I'd definitely get the Gran Coupe version when it comes out.
Great review as always and big shout out to the Commodore 64 T-shirt
Great review bro and the quality of the video is fantastic.
Thank you Nick!!! I put a deposit on an M2 Competition sport!!!!!
This car has been on my radar as my next car, but then made the 'mistake' of driving a 981 Boxster S with the PDK the other day and man what a glorious engine that is. I currently drive a 2014 328i M-Sport so I know that interior well and it was a huge letdown to see that damned Dakota leather in the M2. The M2 is still calling but I'm thinking a 987 or 981 Cayman S might get the final nod.
bmw is doing some pretty awesome styling on their M line
Hey Nick! Great review as always. Is there much of a difference between this and the m235i you reviewed, I have the latter and was wondering on the difference in performance, how much better does the m2 sound in person? There difficult to get a hold to test drive one in the uk. Thanks
If you liked the M2, you would love the M2 Competition! When do you think you might give it a drive? They fixed a lot of the things you didn't like about the original.
Exactly what I need to watch! Gonna replace the M3 E46 to either a M2, CaymanS or a M4/M3f80.
You'd say the M2?
You mention that the M2 doesn't have alot of options, but how about the 1M coupe?
Even LESS options to tick.
Looking at M2 now. thanks for the review.
Nice comparison video - I actually think the M4 looks smaller due to the different lines
Great review , touched on some very good points. What kind of cameras were you using. Quality stuff I reckon.
How do the seats and the comfort compare during driving?
the seats are great. 2020 M2 Comp. US spec, 4 options. Standard Seats are the best, very comfortable. No option for hard racing seats.
@@dafrasier1 I personally find them to be really sub-par for a car like this. Not alot of bolstering or back support
@@b71071 I have never driven with bucket seats. Not a car guy. But they were nice for an old guy.
I had no seat options available when I ordered mine.
@@dafrasier1 Apologies, I just saw you have the Comp. I was talking about the standard M2 - I am told the comp seats are better
@@b71071 I can only compare the seats to my 718 Boxster S. Basic seats, with some bolster, hard and uncomfortable.
the M2 Comp were plush with some bolstering.
After 20 laps on the Ring in a day my knees were sore in both cars, from bracing myself. No harness, not bucket seats; too many corners.
Elite C64 music haha.
M2 best all round car out at the moment.
@nick Murray great review as always. I know you are a huge fan of deviated stitching. However what are your opinions of the comfort of the m2 seats compared to your m4. Seems like the seats are the standard sport seats from an f30 perhaps? The seats in the f82 look far superior and I know they feel great. Your opinion?
M2 looks awesome, I want one.
Great as always Nick. Throw em both on Lime Rock and the M2's weight advantage takes the win. BTW I hope you're getting some track time at LRP..
I love it. Best looking modern BMW.
Fantastic review. Which mount do you use inside for the dslr? -Ben
I wish all car reviewers would follow Nick's lead and make 60fps videos
What a coincidence - early in the morning I've watched your old M235i review and now you upload this, brilliant! By the way, how does the M2 compare to the M235i? For someone considering the latter one, is it worth paying more and getting the M2?
And as always, great review Nick. One of the best automotive channels here on YT. Keep it going!
How much you think this car will be worth in 2020/2021? I'm eyeing this car in a couple years, having picked up an awesome 135i coupe last month for £15k.
I'm definitely a fan of cars like this; small yet very capable. However, the waiting lists on these is ridiculous, not to mention that dealers are trying to charge well over MSRP for a production car.
The only complaint I have about the M2 is the weight. BMW could have given it carbon roof and other lightweight materials to give it more of an edge.
I really enjoy your reviews. Thanks for this one. Bear in mind, the lack of buttons to your right by the gear shifter compared to your M4 is in part due to the lack of DCT in this car. I have a '15 235i with some Dinan bits. Really been tempted to trade up to this but Im holding out for the competition package hopefully next year. Cheers!
Awesome car! It's definitely on my short list. The Cayman as well.
Nick, nice video and picture quality inside the car is awesome! Which camera and mount you are using? It completely blows GoPro away.
As close to the spiritual successor to the e46 M3 as it gets.
Nick, no drag race against the M4? Would've appreciated a good exhaust clip, too. Thanks, keep the videos coming you Prius driving, Kiwi-American!!
No drag race as it would have been DCT vs MT and the DCT has an unfair advantage
+Nick Murray, ahhhh. Got it! Fair enough. Thx.
Also what's the point, 0-60 times are online?
+Pierce Cooke well, as you saw in this video, the horsepower figures are grossly underrated. One can assume 0-60 times are the same. Besides, who doesn't like watching a good drag race? He does them with a lot of the cars he reviews. I was wondering why not against his M4's little brother. Now I know why.
great review man! thanks for the great shots and effort. keep going!
How does the single turbo setup feel compared to the twin turbo in the M4 ( is it more laggy in one vs the other) ? Does the M2 pull hard to redline better or does the M4?
Overall is great! I love the M2....but I really hope one day the car companies figure it out that the GPS monitor can only be on the bottom left corner of the windshield for the safety reasons. It still bothers me seeing the monitor in the center which can cause hazard and danger by looking at it for 0.5 seconds in the stop and go traffic...why everything needs to symmetrical? Safety first...
Great video! Thanks for being fair and honest in your reviews. I do own a 2017 M2 6MT so I'm a touch biased, lol. I was actually looking at the new M3, but after pricing the options for it, it was way more than I could afford. They happened to have my future M2 in the showroom floor so I started learning about it right then. I have days I wish I could have afforded the M3, but for no particular reason I think just to say I have the M3 and the S55 engine. I have read that performance is extremely close between M2 and M3/M4 so that made me feel better inside. I then learned other things that made the M2 maybe better than other current M cars, so overall I have been satisfied with my purchase. Your M4 is beautiful. I had too many people that pretty much said I'm not even in the same breath as a M3/M4 and I wanted to tell them, really??? Look up the data, lol. I am looking at the Dinan Stage 2 power package which I may get some time this year. Thanks again for the video!!
Commodore 64!! Love the shirt! Do you remember the Commodore Vic 20?? That was my first computer. Learned BASIC on it. I believe it had 20k of memory LOL.
Spot on review Nick, you know you're stuff.
I think BMW M division did a great job of getting the M2 to sound good. Where as the M3/4 in my opinion sound atrocious. Would you agree? I had an X5M which I had to do a lot of adjustments to my system to get it to sound a bit more like the M5/6 with the M performance exhaust. Btw lovely colour on the M4, can't wait to see the green on the 991.2
The interesting comparison has to be between this and the Shelby gt350! That's a tough choice
These are making around 330- 350 whp stock depending on octane/ type of dyno.
Smaller is better, I like the M2, other than the facts that the M4 has all the goodies. I like how he brought his teddy along for the ride.
This could most definitely be my first CT purchase!
I was hoping it would have nicer sportier seats also I thought it would be more than 50-150 lbs lighter. I guess they couldn't go too crazy with it then it would be faster than the m4.
Great video! I would go out on a limb and say that the car would compare more as a German muscle car and would compare it to a high end carmaro, gt350 or maybe an srt challenger. Those are all in the price range and performance. Yes I know BMW is not in the same class luxury wise or status wise but looking purely at price and performance they are all in the same range.
Nicely done as always. I really enjoy your reviews. This one is special to me because my M2 gets built next week and I have been curious as to what your thoughts would be about it especially since you have so much experience in the M4. I am also a little irritated that they decided to go with Dakota leather versus the much nicer leather that is in the other M cars but as you point out its tough to beat the overall value of the M2 so I will learn to live with it. I am a bit concerned about the lack of contrast in the gauges, I don't understand why BMW went that direction, I will bet we will see a change in that area when they do the LCI. Thanks again for the review.
Congrats on your new M. I am sure you will love it.
I would never really cross-shop the M2 with the M4. Much of that is due to the fact that I would only be in the market for the more practical (for my needs) M3. But even that aside, I only look at the M2 as being what anyone who might have ever considered buying the M235 would actually get.
Test drove the M2 and the Merc A45! Both great cars to drive but the Merc takes it in the styling, especially in the interior. BMW really need to get a grip and improve the interior, especially when you are paying so much money.
Top review Nick of the BEST M car ever made!!!!
Nice review, I like my M235i but everytime I see the M2, it makes me think I should have waited. Maybe someday.
Excellent review, Nick! I was waiting very patiently for you to do this. Ordering mine soon. Thank you Sir!(also can you do an R22 review when you get a chance? Thanks!)
Ok I am 45 seconds into this. And your t-shirt is awesome! Although I think you are little young for C64 I appreciate the representation!
Very similar to e46 m3 I feel. Would love to get one but love my e46 m3 so much
Great review Nick. How do you feel about purchasing this car as an Auto?
Also, a very important question: in 2 years, the M240i will cost 44,000 used with low millage in Puerto Rico, while the M2 used will probably stay at 65,000. $20,000 difference for a car with the same torque and 0-60.
20,000.
What is your take on this?
Dude, I dig that t-shirt.
