@Big Boss It's neither. Liquid possessed him in MGS2 (his dad's The Sorrow, remember) and in the timeskip, he cut off his arm and got a prosthetic.
And then he trained intensely and underwent hypnotherapy to PRETEND to still be possessed.

How does hypnotizing yourself fool an AI? Has the AI supernatural possession programmed into it as a variable? Or did it know it was a ruse? Even if it knew, how exactly did it fool it? What was the tactical advantage?

I personally feel like the early Splinter Cell games are better espionage wise, and I'd recommend those over MGS but I'll admit, MGS has a lit ass story, much more cinematic then the Splinter Cell series.

As much stuff people give MGS5's story, ill never forget when you had to kill each of your soldiers that are infected as they stand saluting at you while you do it. It felt so impactful and emotional that itll always stick to me.

You know what I think would’ve been good for the Beauty/Beast sections? Have Drebin call Snake before the fight and give him half of the backstory. Give us some suspense, then give us the gruesome details after the fight. Make us sympathize with these characters, then remind us of their terrible actions. It gives this mirror image of the two phases. In the bloodthirsty Beast phase, you feel sympathetic for them. After the Beauty phase, the player feels conflicted on whether they should feel sorry for the Beauty/Beast or not. And that should be up to the player to decide.

Metal Gear Rising Revengance is an amazing piece of art. Maybe not fitting into MGS, but its a fucking masterpiece nontheless.
Music, Graphics, Gameplay, everything's just great.
the story actually doesn't fit in the MGS lore though......it just takes away the closer that raiden got at the end of MGS 4....but yeah other then that Rising Revengance is fucking awesome no doubt...

@KehnWay Rising was originally meant to be that, but Platinum insisted it be a sequel, not a prequel.
Portable Ops is part of the series and its story should be respected. Kojima said that some parts of the game conflicted with the lore. He has never specified what exactly, but he did said in an interview that the overall story is canon. People forget that Portable Ops was created together with MGS4 and needed to be released before Guns of the Patriots for lore reasons. Ops adds more to the lore of the series than Peace Walker and Phantom Pain, but people got too hung up on the part where it was not directed by Kojima.
I'll always defend this game. The gameplay may not be as good, but the story is up there with the best in the series.

I personally really liked the laughing octopus fight. She is the only boss I fully remember of the game because I loved how it was almost like you being hunted. Always thought it was cool and liked the design of her suit. I'd also be lying if I didn't say I think she's also the cause of my thing for younger women with white hair from when I played it as a teenager lol.
Same here, but it might have been Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones. The fight was also really cool and frightening the first time. My personal favorite was crying wolf, but laughing octopus is a close second for the sheer panic I went into trying to fight her.

Kind of ironic, considering that MGR had a far better story than just about every MGS game after Snake Eater.
Actually in MGS2 Meryl was mentioned. If you call Snake while he’s sleeping near the start of the big shell part he’ll start mumbling and he says, “MmmmmumMerylmumblmmm.”
and then he says "LIQUID!"
And if you call otacon after the fight against Olga on the ship snake says “I’ve had enough of tomboys”
Meryl has actual cannological missions in Substance, the re-release off MGS2! They are part of the "extra missions", better known as Snake Tales. She's a playable character and you get to see what happened between the 2 years of the Tank chapter and Big Shell.
i don't know if anyone else has said it, but you can use the syringe on meryl during the mantis fight to drain her entire stamina bar so mantis cant control her
While I agree that the bosses could have more of an emotional impact if they were structured like MGS1 bosses, I find it fitting that they are just there to kill you in the same kind of pointless war that the PMCs and rebels around the world were caught in.

One thing that's really cool about the Laughing Octopus fight is the FROGs at the beginning, if you hide under the bed and equip the cigarettes, they can actually smell the smoke and will come in the room. Then you just tranq 'em in the leg.
This is a full documentary. I have never played a single Metal Gear game in my entire life. I was crying by the end. Good Job, Muta. Though I haven't played the game, I'm sure you did it justice. Thank you.

Sidebar: An important thing Rose does is explain the psyche system to you. In Snake Eater you had a stamina bar that decided how fast your health recovered. Stamina was gained by eating food and healing your wounds. Pysche is similar, but different enough to need explaining. Snake's performance is directly related to his psyche. Doing as much as being in the sun instead of in the shade in acts 1 & 2 can cause your psyche to go down. Snake's aim will be shaky, and there will be other downsides like slower health regeneration. Anything that causes Snake stress reduces the psyche meter. Honestly I ignored it when I first played it. But after playing on harder difficulties in subsequent playthroughs, I realized it's purpose. Campbell also admits that he married Rose to protect her from the patriots, not to bang her.

Yeh because the patriots are so stupid they don't understand human pregnancy lasts 9 months and they don't understand paternity tests. She was pregnant at the end of MGS2 and the patriots knew that so how exactly would they be so easily fooled?
Lower Psyche also increases the likelihood of Snake's back problems when he's crouching
I'm currently playing MGS4 rn via rpcs3 on my RTX 3080, I played through all the other games in chronological order, and may I say, I've never played a game like this in my life. It's had such a immense impression on me, I'm glad that I'm alive to experience this masterpiece

It's really bugging me that you keep mentioning snake being old. By the events of MGS 4, he isn't "in his 80s". Because of the FOXDIE virus, he's rapidly aging. He's actually in his mid-to-late 40s but symptom wise, he's basically dying of super cancer aids that also makes you appear physically older.
All the clones were born with accelerated aging. Otacon mentions that solid got himself diagnosed and it appeared as werner syndrome. Naomi says it’s what causes foxdie within Snake to mutate from targeting genetics of specific individuals to fully transmitable super aids cancer.

Muta mentioning the "hive AI" in MGS4 actually made me think about an even weirder solution in MGSV. It's 80s so no nanomachines, son. And enemy soldiers need to complete a call to raise a "caution" state. But if they actually spot you, your location is immidiately transfered to every soldier at lightspeed.
Yeah, the worst mechanic in any stealth game. That's why I like hitman so much, each person has their own "brain" if you will

@@rattango9819 Kind of preferred it being isolated in the sense that the series lore was insanely bogged down at this point and with it being a spinoff they decided to not pull a kingdom hearts and give you a chance to understand the story without needing to look up a plot synopsis for the timeline. All you need to know is that Raiden is a cool cyborg badass and nano-machines son. And it gave them room to basically do whatever they want with the character and not have to worry about any conspiracies or evil actors they introduce forming plot holes with Metal Gear Solid 4. In that respect I wouldn't say no to a sequel by Platinum if Konomi ever feels like using the IP again. Can't really go back to the past any more considering that MGSV plugged up the last major hole in the series timeline in how Naked Snake can just die and then get over it.

I have a weird obsession with watching, reading and playing everything in chronological order, which is kinda hard when you're going through Batman or Star Trek. Star Trek you literally have to switch between multiple shows and movies while watching and it takes over a year to watch it all.

So I played MGR, and I gotta say, I liked that game's story. Of course I had no idea that the story was meant to be a bridge at first and not a different story, so when that became news in this video, I thought,
Well first things first, I have no complaints with the story already made, but now knowing that there was a different intent for the story, I would love to see that. I think in terms of making the story's quality great, going the sequel route isn't bad. Going with the original idea, there would be a pretty big constraint as far as I know, which is staying accurate to the details about Raiden prior to MGS4, and trying to stay consistent with chronological events and Raiden's character after MGS2, and make the story's quality good could be more challenging than opting to take Raiden's character after *everything* in the MGS timeline and make a whole new story. So not bad. But if they ever decide to make that story a reality, I would absolutely love to play that. Raiden is my favorite character in all of the Metal Gear franchise, and this would be something I didn't want to just pass up if it was made. *I'm all for both stories, the original intent and the result.*
My only problem with making that story before was the design they did for Raiden's mechanical body. After playing Rising, it's pretty clear to me that the MGS4 body's design was a building block for his latest design. Which would make me think it's meant to be an improvement from the body in MGS4. And so what would make the design feel very off is that if he is supposed to have that body before MGS4, it would seem like a downgrade, both in functionality and design, since that body would be utilizing Blade Mode, which is a capability not found in the MGS4 body.

1:36:00 I would've absolutely hated it if the path changed significantly. Getting the big boss emblem was already mind numbingly painful; if I had to deal with a rogue-like section too, I'd go insane.
Platinum games were the ones who insisted on the story taking place after MGS4 to have more creative freedom in game design. Kojima just wanted the game to release to hold off console players at the time since he was wrapping up Peacewalker and was to move onto MGSV right after, which was a long ways away.
The first time I finished MGS4, at around 27 years old, I cried genuinely.
I teared up at the end of 3.. but 4 I full-on cried

We all started this franchise as Boys, and ended this franchise as Men. I was there since the very beginning when my Dad bought me Metal Gear 1 on Nintendo (NES) back in 1989, and I played through that whole game with no help from strategy guides or friends, it took me almost a year to beat it. I then managed to get my mom to buy me “Snake’s Revenge” because I thought it was the real Metal Gear 2, but it wasn’t canonically, sadly we didn’t get to buy and play the real Metal Gear 2 because it was in Japan only 😔. I did manage to beat Snake’s Revenge too though, and the game is so damn tough to beat, but I did it. Almost a decade went by and I had lost track of my boy “Solid Snake” and I didn’t have a Playstation 1. My friend who lived across the street from me at the time, back in 1998, had a Playstation 1 and he seen Metal Gear Solid 1 at Blockbuster Video and he rented it. My friend then told me about renting Metal Gear Solid and he wanted me to help him beat it because he remembered me telling him about Metal Gear on NES and when I beat it. So he said that I might be an expert at playing the game because of my past experiences, it’s funny I know 😂. We spent most of 1998 playing both Metal Gear Solid and Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, those were some great times. After Metal Gear Solid 1, my friend and I kept on going to play the rest of the Metal Gear games going forward in the future.
