    • @JewelSchool
      @JewelSchool  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lusine! Two different kinds of head pins were used for this video. A 22ga and a 24 ga. Both of these are 2 inches in length as well. We have some in stock if you'd like to pick them up: www.jtv.com/product/jewelry-making-101-earring-essentials-supply-kit-in-gold-tone/JSYT45B?mcid=XSOjsyt
      You may want to look and see where your marking your pliers. Toward the end will be smaller and that may help with sizing! Check out the video at th-cam.com/video/L42MDujd5M8/w-d-xo.html
      Good luck!

    Do you have a recommendation for a sturdy head pin to use for a "ball drop" earring (head pin with a bead at the bottom with most of pin exposed)? Thanks!

    • @JewelSchool
      @JewelSchool  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello there! Depending on how long you want your earring to be, there are different length head pins.The common gauges for head pins range from 18ga to 26ga, but remember you need to choose the gauge that will go through the bead hole. A good example would be a freshwater pearl. It will have a small drill hole so you will likely need a 24ga to 26ga head pin. You can find them up to 4 inches in length, which is pretty long. Since your "ball" will probably be decorative, you will want flat end head pin as not to distract from your design. They do make decorative head pins if that's the way you want to go. Also, if you want something very long, you can make your own in any of the aforementioned gauges, which again, will depending on the hole size of your bead. Also it is important to remember that you will need to attach an ear wire if using anything thicker than 20ga wire. Otherwise it won't fit through an ear hole. An ear wire will also add length. One more pro tip. You can make the size of your bead hole a bit larger by using a bead reamer. 😉

    I've been making jewelry for over 20 years and I've never done the loops this way and still don't understand how to do it. When u bend it forward then bend it back the opposite way u just bent it, I don't get why u do it to begin with? So I've been trying to grasp this concept but can't find any close up videos that really shows why u have to do that.
