At 72 years young, I so enjoy your content, your honest videos about life, makeup, etc., Your honesty and humor are so ageless and relatable. My guiding words would definitely be gratitude, optimism, humor and love. But this year I hope to be more disciplined on a personal level. I stopped watching the news in the morning, and instead take my coffee outside to my patio, watch the sun come up, the birds at my feeders and erected out loud my gratitude for that day. Most days, I follow that with a 45-60 minute walk. This year I plan to be better about adding free weights more often. I totally agree Jess, that the media want to divide us, to deepen differences…but I truly believe we are all more alike than we are different and most just want to be well, have a job , take care of our families, etc. I plan to keep that belief in myforefront as the year moves on. Be well and hope 2024 is great to you and your family.🙏😊

My phrase this year is to Do It Scared - I always psych myself out with new situations or from doing things I've been wanting to do. Recently I joined a community band and a new church. Both are things I put off for YEARS and I finally decided the only thing holding me back was me. So now if I'm thinking about doing it and just fear is holding me back, I'm just going to do it anyways.

2023 was my year of me. I finished uni at the end of 2022 which was a rough time. I took care of my physical health, my mental and emotional health. I was able to learn how to rest and just enjoy each day ( I love my job so this was easier) 2024 is a big adult year for me. Buying an apartment, moving out, promotion. 2024 words are Strive, Care, and Kind. I want to be kinder to myself and recognise my achievements. I hope everyone has a wonderful 2024!

I had a really, really bad year, and I relate to you wanting to use Gentle as your word. It's such a good reminder to be gentle to ourselves, to the people around us, to our families, remembering that we are all going through it in some way. My word for 2024 is Resilient, because I need that reminder that no matter how bad a year has been, I am resilient enough to get through it, and learn to thrive after it.

My word of the year is Presence! I made it a hard rule for myself that when I wake up & grab my phone, the first thing I just do is read the verse of the day on my Bible app. Then if I want to check social media that’s fine but I at least start with Gods word 🙏🏼 A lot of the time after I read the verse it then just feels natural to do my Good morning prayers❣️

I love your suggestion on looking at your kids hands when you’re frustrated with them. I am definitely going to do that from now on. I have a big year coming up. Moving 6 states away and finding a new job. Selling a house, buying a house. My word is grace. It’s very similar to your word gentleness. I want to have grace with myself, with others and with the situations that arise. My other word is me. I need to focus on me for a change in all aspects of life. Although apprehensive, I’m excited.

You and your family are lovely. Thanks for the content you put out there.

Letting go of the perfectionism was freeing this past season. I cut my Xmas gift list in half by only gifting to the kids in our family. I let my 9 year old daughter wrap all of the gifts and she was happy doing so. I let go of the vision of perfectly curated and wrapped gifts. I let the kids decorate the tree and the mantle. I didn’t buy extra gifts and accepted that one gift was more than enough. Didn’t get around to hanging my wreaths….oh well 🤷🏽‍♀️
Jess, I’m so glad you’ve unlocked the “secret” to being consistent with exercise. No one exercise is harder than having less than optimal sleep or having anxiety and/or depression consume you. When I don’t have the bandwidth, it’s a 20-30 min walk, and if I’ve got more to give I’m strength training.
Also, so random but thanks for the o’keefs heel balm recommendation, it changed my life 😅

my resolution is to be better to myself. What that looks like is taking my vitamins, eating some better food, gettin some movement in (starting with a 30 day yoga journey), trying to stop anxious thoughts in their tracks, and allowing myself treats sometimes because I'm worth it. I'm trying to avoid the all or nothing mentality. Any day that I do something nice for myself is a good day, even if it's rest and chips, as long as I'm moving and eating a veggie some other days.

My word of 2024 is “Revival”. The last year and probably year before has been all about Survival because of my divorce (after 22 years of marriage) and my mental health issues of my teenage so. This year I need to revive my joy to be alive. My goal is to do the things I have neglected and forgotten about during my marriage that bring me joy. Another goal is to relax and meditate to deal with my anxiety better. Love your videos and wishing you all the best for 2024!

Something I've learned throughout 2023 is that goals can be dynamic. They can change as we change or as our circumstances change or as our priorities change or as the things we want from life change, and they can change or our approaches to them can change as we get to know ourselves better. They're dynamic, they evolve, they change, and it can be unpredictable, and that's OK, even when it means that we don't always meet certain goals that we set for ourselves once upon a time (even if that time is the start of the year).
Lately I've also been thinking that sometimes if we don't meet certain goals, maybe we're not meant to, at least not yet, and maybe it wasn't going to be the right thing for us but we just didn't know it when we first set it. It might be disappointing, but I know I've had goals and aspirations in the past that, in hindsight, definitely wouldn't have served me well if I'd achieved them, like they would have been worse for my mental health and overall wellbeing than any sadness I felt from not achieving them.
Something else I've learned about goals over the past few years is that there's no 'one size fits all' approach that actually works for everyone. For example, SMART goals work well for a lot of people, but I find them insanely stressful and I find that I start feeling bad about myself whenever there's an obstacle or whenever I just don't have it in me to do something and it means there's a delay in meeting the goal (and those bad feelings are not conducive to trying to recover from severe mental illnesses), and I'm much better at achieving my goals if I set broad, flexible goals that are a bit more general and not time restricted (e.g. one of mine for this year is to cook and bake more often - it's broad, it's flexible, it means I'm more likely to give myself grace during weeks I'm struggling and not let myself feel bad that I'm just not up to working on something sometimes).
I have a complicated relationship with goals, but I want to remind everyone to be kind and gentle to themselves, and that it's OK to take a step back from some things if you feel like you need to.

Excellent post. Very on point. The older I get, the more room I make for flexibility. We can drive ourselves crazy "trying to achieve all the things", when we are younger. All in God's timing. 🙏Breath🙏

Every day, I try to do 6 things: 1. Wake up early (usually I wake up at 6am,now I wake up at 5.15am. Love it. More time for me in the morning). 2. Meditate (No.1 helps with no.2), 3. Walk/move/exercise 30mins a day (helped my mental health and body), 4. Read and 5. Journal every day even just a page/paragraph. 6. Eat better ❤

I resonated with so many things you discussed. Loving my body as it grows and changes, striving for strength and health rather than a certain shape or weight, journaling just for myself even if it’s not perfect or organized, being more present. The other day I heard someone say the most time you spend with your kids is before 18, then once they’re adults you’ll probably have a cumulative of one more year in total in terms of how much time you spend together. That opened my eyes and makes me cherish every second I have with them. Time passes too fast and life is short. Make the most of it and be surrounded by peace and joy. Happy 2024 😊

I’m 55 closer to 56😂 and strength train. PR’d my deadlift last year @ 225 lbs and had 4 unassisted pull-ups. Shortly thereafter I herniated my neck. Exciting! I teach and we got let out a half day due to flooding. Terrible storms in Maryland. Pray! Dear Jess, you have been a God send for me this past year and one of my goals for the year ahead is to keep watching you and allowing my self esteem to grow in an upward direction. I’m a 52 year old wife, mother, teacher….and have lost myself over the years. You fall into the trap of putting yourself last and feeling as though you are not worthy. After a while, you start to believe it. Takes more than a day to build yourself back up. You have become my angel and have “counseled” me without even knowing it. Your family feels like part of mine. I’ve even rekindled my love of Disney and am in the process of was of creating a Mickey Mouse Club in my 5th grade classroom as an incentive for my students! They are ecstatic!! Is there a Disney scent that would smell good and not be overpowering in my class? Another fun suggestions? It’s so sad how so many children never grew up with Disney and have no clue who the characters and movies are. I’m striving to bring it alive! How I wish you lived closer and we could get to k ow one another the way I feel like we do! Funny how you feel as though you know someone just from watching their videos! Speaking of which, I need to keep watching this one! Btw… I got a Disney devotional for Christmas and read it daily. Definitely recommend that! It validates who I am and why I am a Christian every day. I too am a people pleaser and perfectionist and I’ve had to realize that it’s ok to please yourself first and worry less about being perfect. Jessica a good video. Most people feel overwhelmed as you did this year. I have observed you and Tyler are on the go alot. The traveling itself is very tiring. I know that Tyler's work is travel. You may be underestimating the toll all the Travel is having. Must people only get the one trip a year. You are very fortunate to have what looks like a good income. Try less travel and more of that time home.

I can tell you as a mom to two grown girls there is definitely a point especially after I had both of them where I was just more confident and more comfortable. There’s a maturity and growth and peace that just comes and it’s such a blessing. I can tell you’re an perfectionist and a bit of an overachiever so I just wanted to say, give yourself grace. Especially when it comes to working out and routines. You’re still in the very young toddler/child stage. There are still sleepless nights with teething and sickness I’m sure. So don’t put so much pressure on yourself that, oh I have to work out on Monday cuz Monday is my workout routine day or I’m a failure. Sometimes, you just need to skip it, rest, reset and come back to it when you’re able. Otherwise, you wear your own body down and get sick and stressed out. And I think I speak for all of us when I say we love watching your videos because we love hanging out with our friend. We don’t need the perfect filming space with the perfect lighting and the perfect background. So don’t put that on your shoulders either. Happy New Year💕

I’m a midwesterner as well, so your personality and verbiage is just very comforting to me. I loved what you had to say about implementing changes now because you may not be as likely to make them later in life. I wanted to give you some hope! I am 46 years old and I have accomplished more in my 40’s than I ever did in my 20’s or 30’s (aside from raising my beautiful kids). When I turned 40 I ran a half marathon and I wasn’t even a consistent runner before that 😂 I take better care of my physical and mental health now than I ever have. I think it’s great that you are getting a jump start on all these things, but don’t be surprised if you accomplish some pretty big things down the road too. Please don’t ever change and thank you for the time and effort you put into your channel❤

My word/intention I set for 2024 is Gratitude, and there are two parts to it.
One, looking back on the day/week/month and identifying things that happened that I’m grateful for, where I saw God’s presence in my life, versus focusing on the negative (and also not letting something negative happening spoil my whole day).
Two, doing things future me would be grateful that today me did, whether it’s eating nourishing food, taking that swing dance class I’ve always wanted to do, auditioning for things even when I’m anxious or don’t think I’m good enough for that theater company/that musical/that orchestra, etc.

I have a career that is very, very demanding and I'm the head of a large office and have a lot of responsibility. It causes stress and I take that out on my husband and on myself. Just being snappy or short with him, when I don't need to be, I'm just tired or in a hurry or something happened at work, etc. I also started crying when you talked about being gentle with *yourself*. Yep, I need to do that, too. Anyway, thanks for a very inspiring chat. I appreciate you, Jess. 💖

Burn out is real and can creep up on you….the silent killer. I’m learning to say no and to live more simply. I love my home and my family and find that I can be perfectly content staying home on the weekend cooking, reading, watching movies, playing games, etc. I also tend to be judgmental, especially as a teacher, as I strive for perfection and excellence. Am I perfect? Far from it and I’ll never be perfect. That’s ok and I’m coming to realize that. We could all benefit from being more gentle and kind. Words can hurt, but kind words can build you up and make you feel so good about yourself. I love complimenting others and seeing a smile on their face and a change in their attitude. I am going to strive to be less critical of others, but above all MYSELF! I’m a work in progress and baby steps are steps nonetheless. I have so much love to give others, but I have to love myself first. Love you and your family so much! God knew what he was doing when he placed you in my path. ❤🙏 You are beautiful both Inside and out! Hugs! Susan in Maryland

Wow you sure unpacked a lot to start the new year . One of the reasons I watch is you are so passionate about life and one of those lights even when you’re sharing your own struggles … your family and especially those girls they will be blessed! My words this year balance , Grace and flexible.
No longer conform to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…….
When I’m listening to people in conversation I will be validating them more changing my response to comments like help me to understand your position or let’s find some common ground , how can we work together, I don’t agree but I respect you that’s a start for me .
Taking out thoughtless things I say like ….can’t believe you said that, you always or you never ….that’s ridiculous….you need to….you should….your wrong I realized a lot of this was based on my cognitive distortion.. also when upset a friend shared the acronym HALT STOP A MINUTE ask yourself am I hungry, angry lonely or tired.. it helps . I keep a calendar and check off what I planned to do and circle what I don’t do add to the next day. Been doing it for years… when I started I needed an accountability partner I thank her ten years later.

I don’t always comment, but I’m a faithful subscriber/viewer. I am also a bit older than the majority of your audience (almost 55). I think your words are beautiful, especially gentleness. I love the verse that talks about letting your gentleness be evident to a whole. I’m pretty sure that’s in Colossians but I’m not sure. Anyway, I think you and Tyler are on a treadmill right now because you have young kids, so the scheduling is going to be challenging at times. I think it’s great and I think it’s something to shoot for, but you are spot on when you said things may not work perfectly and you need to give yourself a break. I think you should be proud of all of the progress you have made, and you are just such a light to watch and listen to. I wish I had your maturity and Countenance when I was your age. And I will say that when you are older, you will still probably try to learn new things because we are all trying to build new neural pathways to stave off dementia. Also, fun fact: I also took voice lessons for a short period of time, and I really enjoyed the confidence they brought to me. I was 40 at the time, and super enjoyed it. And as a speech language pathologist, i hear you about warming up-I need to do that way more frequently than i do! Anyway, love to you in 2024. Still processing my word(s). I don’t know if this will help, or even be seen, but your comments on being gentle struck a chord with me. When I was working crazy hours as an RN, especially during Covid, I really struggled with burnout and frustration. I got myself a few bracelets with just a word or two on them. Like , Grace, Joy, Serve. When I would wash my hands ( a million times a day) I would see those words and be reminded. Extend some Grace to that irritating coworker. Give more Patience to the demanding family member. My personal mantra is that I am here to Serve all Gods children. It helped me take a deep breath and recenter. And they I would place the bracelet in the sterilizer when I got home. LOL

I’m very quickly reaching the golden years phase of my life. My brain tells me I’m still 30 but my 58 yr old body tells me I’m 75😂. But seriously, as I’ve aged I’ve slowly let go of trying to please people, trying to have things perfect and worrying about every little thing. I still worry about my grown kids and my precious teen grandkids but that’s completely normal. I used to not leave my house without a full face of makeup. I work at an Agricultural Complex and most days I’m shoveling manure and driving a tractor so makeup isn’t on the agenda. I’ve been quite sick for a year with stomach issues and I’ve had 100 lb weight loss. I’ve been to 3 different doctors with no real answers. My skin is just nothing but wrinkles and sag!!! The thing is…I don’t feel bad. I feel pretty doggone good. I’ve had so many people, just rude, walk straight up to me and ask me if I’m dying or if I have cancer!!! If I offer to tell someone, that’s fine but don’t come at me with that rudeness! Ms. Jessi…you are a beautiful reflection of Gods whole entire heart and I love you and enjoy you so much❤
