  • I’m back wild camping in the Brecon Beacons using my Decathlon camping gear. I use budget camping gear outside of winter for wild camping in the UK. Forclaz camping gear is really good, especially their MT900 range, this is great backpacking gear. Don't get this confused with cheap camping gear though, Decathlon gear is really good quality and well thought out.

I had Cloud Peak 2 for 1st proper tent for wild camping. I'd trust this more than that!
I got this over a Lanshan as its a trusted brand and at 6ft 2 I needed the extra space for the extra few hundred grams
I bought a child's decathlon pole as well to use at foot end to pull it up and give more room. It's only 150grams and could strip it down further if it wanted
I've added more guy lines on as well so will be solid in the wind!
I love Decathlon but can't see me swapping my Osprey bags or Big Agnes sleep pad.
I do want try a quilt but I have looked at the 0 degree down bag as an alternative

The MT900 Forclaz sleeping bags is one of the best sleeping bags around and is better than a lot of bags at twice or three times the price! I have tried many quality bags and often they are bad fitting and too tight or the ultra thin and light zips constantly snag, bad fitting hoods with no structure, baffling designs that clump the down up and they often contain less filling on the back of the bag than the front, which if you are a side sleeper is a big no no. You back ends up being much colder than your front. I have had RAB, Berghaus, OEX, Cumulus hand made to size, and Marmot all down ones and all have had issues mentioned. The Forclaz MT900 sleeping bag does have a great zip, V baffling to help stop down migration in all the baffles, the the top and back contain equal fill of down, the hood is one of the best you will find too, it contains a good amount of down and is solid fitted structure and not just an after though on the bag like a bag sewn on top with down in. They also come in four sizes of body fit which is unheard of in off the peg bags. I'm 6.3, 16 stone and the XL size bag fits lovely and roomy in all the right areas.
It is also a light in weight and well made bad with a great 5 year warranty that Decathlon will stand up to. I have one and my Girl Friend too and she loves hers. Also she uses the Forclaz insulated air mat the red one and this is also great for the price, I have the sit mat you are using too and that is years old and still like new works good. I can't comment on the back packs or tents I have never used them but I could see them being also very good. I do have the 500 down jacket Forclaz also one of the best buys I have had, which is a few years old and going strong and my mates have this jacket too and rate it higher than some very expensive ones. The tent in green or brown would be one of the best buys around but the white is a major flaw for UK

I watched your more recent Decathlon gear video before watching this, and I did say I didn’t like the white tents. Still not sure about it, but this video has raised my opinion of the Decathlon stuff, particularly for summer camping. Nice to think you can get an entire summer kit for a fraction of the price and have a great weekend away with your mates. A very good video thanks and hopefully will encourage more youngsters to get out there for a night or two under the stars 👍🏻🙂

I'm with you on the Decathlon gear - I rate the MT500 walking shoes very highly - done loads of hard miles with no probs - now have the MT900 which are even better (I also own so called higher end brands but default to the Decathlon's) Have 2 MT900 ultralight tents which have been great, never leaked and very stable - trade off being headroom maybe but that's common with the design which is similar to the tarp style tent you used - keep up the good work.

I've never failed to get a tent back in the bag so I don't really know what you mean? Sometimes it can be tricky when wet but when tents are dry they're a piece of cake. Start rolling it tightly, don't let it loosen or go off at an angle and you can't go wrong.

    • @babar69110
      @babar69110 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@BackpackingUK By example, the matrass, yes, can be rolled and put in the factory bag, but, to be lat without any air, and get the smallest dimensions , it is another story when you are in a hurry... and again are not in the living room floor ;) It makes things far easier when bags are a little bigger, you still can compress at the end. at last, onetigriss understood this and it is a pleasure to fats pack their tents. As a french, with friends we had good fun and jokes with sellers about the selling marketing of some decathlon super small packed products in the shop, which has nothing to do with every day use ;)

To the rest of the world the area will always be called the Brecon Beacons and nothing is going to change that. Perhaps you would prefer it if no one came to visit Wales? What? Just because you say so? I have no problem with Welsh people calling places by their Welsh names - and it should come first, but well known tourist spots that have had an English name for as long as anyone can remember should retain them. I simply don’t believe that it will do Wales any good to deter tourists and others coming to the area by confusing people with this name change. It will be called the ‘Brecon Beacons’ I am sure by most people for my lifetime and beyond.

Great video. Love Decathlon stuff. Quick question: how do you like the OMM chest rig? Does it bounce around at all? Get sweaty?

It’s excellent! Took me over 6 months to get one as they were always out of stock! You can strap it down above and below to stop it bouncing.

@@BackpackingUK So you don’t find it gets too sweaty then?

No, not really. It's got a padded mesh back so it's breathable.

I see the pronunciation police are having a good day again! Welsh, being such an ancient language is very difficult for non Welsh speakers to fathom. Give it a rest and chill. To the rest of the world the area will always be called the Brecon Beacons and nothing is going to change that. Perhaps you would prefer it if no one came to visit Wales? The only problem there would be that the economy would collapse and unemployment rise by 100% or more!

What's the poop situation there? Do you have to cart it back out or just bury it?

I always go for a tactical (do what I need to do before I start hiking!). I’ll try my hardest to keep it in whilst out. Worst case, dig!

I prefer parking on the road East of Llyn Y Fan Fawr and walking up following the stream/river. There’s lots of small waterfalls and pools you can swim in. Llyn Y Fan Fawr is a natural lake, much prettier. Keep up the good work 👍
