Cabin airflow through a lot of the newer cars is dismal, it’s like being in a tumble dryer with the door closed. The manufacturers I am sure just think that aircon will take care of this issue. But a quick trip to the shops in December results in steamy windows, a draft through the cabin helps keep everything less frenetic I always feel. Great to see Damian on the channel too 👍

the lack of side air intake is what makes the 458 a timeless, clean, sleek, design, over the 488 and F8 and any other new ferraris after it. After owning a dozen supercars i can honestly say the 458 (and the 430 scuderia) is the best overall supercar with lotta soul, modern & reliable enough, holds value, beautiful to look at inside out, wonderful engine and exhaust sound and still has the old supercar charm of trying to kill you sometimes. The gt3 and rs are faster, more well built, very well engineered, but very boring for the street and takes no skill to go fast. The mclarens have high depreciation and a gearbox that's waiting to leak, extremely fast but sound leaves a lot to be desired, high running costs due to warranty if u want to own long term. The v10 lambos are super fast and loud and harsh and very easy and safe to go fast, but the interior is too plasticky, childish, and videogamey gauge cluster (i dont think the car will age well especially the interiors, smells audi from miles). The 458 is not the perfect car, but has big worth in every category and takes nothing to maintain

I get why so many people love the 458 but i always liked the styling of the 488 more and you can get a 430 with a manual. But if we are free to choose one of the special versions it would be hard to choose between a Scud and a Speciale. At least if money isnt a factor
I desperately want to like the 458 because it is such a big leap forward technically and quality wise, but I just can’t bring myself to appreciate the styling. And that has been the case with every Ferrari that has come out since the 458. They don’t pull at my heart strings like the earlier cars still do today. Oh well.
Love this car had the opportunity to drive a 458 was very against flappy paddles but this car changed my mind unbelievable to drive sounds really good. Do get jay em saying the steering isn't perfect but love the noise

@@oliverhillman3325 Hi Ollie hope your all good. Extending my garage in the New year. Thinking of getting a GTC4 Lusso. Hope we can all get out for a drive when things are better. Keep safe.
James, how can you not see the perfection in a 458? The holes in the side are what make the 488 so ugly, this is the prettiest car ever made. I'm a porsche fan myself and have ne er liked any Ferrari until this came along, I'd have this over LA Ferrari if I wasn't allowed to sell it. Its the simplicity of the car that makes it so beautiful and I've actually had the privilege of driving one, it was the best thing I've ever driven as well.
I realized it was special from the beginning, ever since I saw it on the cover of Forza 4. Ive always loved it. And in retrospect, I was right as they went to turbocharged after this. This was the last street car from Ferrari that was overflowing with soul.
An agile vehicle. But the last pretty Ferrari was the 360. Since then they've lost it looks wise. Most just look like a big floppy shoe at the front end. This isn't too bad, still a bit fussy though. Overall 7 on 10
The absence of side induction openings is a good point, that's probably why I'm drawn to the 458 offering strong hints of the absolutely stunning 365 GT4/512BB even though not a 12 cylinder.
I agree--it has extremely clean lines, which I like. There's not too many mid engined cars that don't have some sort of scoop on the side, and that makes the 458 stand out in my opinion. Even the rest of Ferrari's mid-engine V8 line up has some sort of side scoops: 308, 328, 348, 355, 360, 430, 488, and F8 all have side scoops.
Always had a bit of a thing with Ferrari’s gearboxes since the 458. Like they’re too quick. Almost sounds like clutch slip when you change. Never sounds like a crisp, clean change like with a PDK or Lambo. I prefer a bit more drama with the gear shifts if there’s no manual option.
Excellent review. You're amazing how much and how long you can talk about a car. I also get the feeling, unlike other reviewers, that it only takes you one take. I'm guessing you actually have to edit out a ton because you could talk forever. Keep up the good work!
If you add in the spider it’s to me the best combo of what Ferrari has to offer.... F8 is too jumpy hitting rev limiter every two seconds, f430 or or Your 550 is great but must be a manual.... I almost bought a 550 but I have other cars that were too similar... the 458 is complete power that you can use a car you can tour Damien is 100% correct. Good for you sir! I’m happy you use this as much as possible. I also agree on wanting a manual. I do t care of its slower I believe it is part of the experience of driving.
Brilliant video James! Big fan of the 458 and @TheCarGuys.TV so perfect viewing for a soggy Boxing Day! Loving the incorrectly buttoned up shirt too :)
👍
Had my 458 nearly 7 years 12k miles and even compared to my other Supercars it’s the one I love to drive, side slip control is fantastic, V8 sound track you can’t buy from Ferrari anymore😎...I’m also a biker and I love the indicators on the wheel of this & my Perf...only way I would let it go would be for a Speciale Aperta👌
Try a 430 Scuderia and you won't be disappointed...own both and the Scud is a completely different animal. The 458 though is a masterpiece.
Not in the correct color but beautiful car nonetheless, first goodlooking Ferrari after the F355 and much nicer than the V8 that came after the Italia
The pearl white is sensational up close. It glitters like nail varnish. Real pearls crushed into the paint mix. Only the pearl yellow beats it.
Check if the carpets are damp. That car's letting in water, or a leaking heater matrix.
I was thinking the same.
The last heater matrix leak I had the water was dripping off the red carpet onto my foot and when I took my socks off it had dyed my foot pink.
The best edited and delivered car reviews on YT, absolutely love the format of your videos.
Thankyou very much
the lack of side air intake is what makes the 458 a timeless, clean, sleek, design, over the 488 and F8 and any other new ferraris after it.
Very intuitive comments Rick, fully agree about questionable Lamborghini interiors too, not many raise this point.
I agree 100%.
You need to take your shirt to Iain Tyrrell for realignment. Your review on the otherhand is spot on.
I've not been soo madly in love with such a Ferrari since the f40
How come your videos are full with so much more new info than the videos of some much bigger channels. Especially for a car like this where literally everybody is talking about an everybody has made tons of videos with it. Great job! Very underrated channel!
Just watched a video with two of the most genuine car guys on youtube
Excellent review, James...thanks. Glad to see Damian here, too (huge fan of The Car Guys). The 458 is pretty, though I still miss Pininfarina design.
Sensational JayM with the Fiery Ferrari ! Your character reminds me of that other journo' from Downunder Steve Cropley ? Stay away from the Vampire Virus this festive season and looking forward to your review of the last Vauxhall Monaro.
Great car this. The only thing I would change would be colour...a 458 has to be in rosso corsa...
“You’ll try to indicate by tooting the horn or changing radio stations.”
That got a laugh from me.
Oh well.
You know that second dude knows his shit when he pronounces "SPECIALE" correctly. Hats off to you, Sir.
I actually love the 458 because it doesn't have big goofy side scoops which I do like on the F40 but hate on the 488.
Love this car had the opportunity to drive a 458 was very against flappy paddles but this car changed my mind unbelievable to drive sounds really good. Do get jay em saying the steering isn't perfect but love the noise
Well, I admire him for getting the car in the colour he wanted and the wedding car rental market shouldn't be sniffed at.
😂😂😂
Great vid but it's gotta be the 360! Beautiful forgiving handling. I'm sure the Straladale is the ultimate. 360 aged amazingly well. I'm sure these moderns are a tour de force but...
I love my 458 Spider it is far more fun then the F8 I drove.
Hi mate. It's Ollie. Sat opposite you at sheesh! 458 spider more fun that the F8? That's great to hear. Take care mate...
Very informative/enjoyable. Any chance we could have a similar series with some McLarens? Seasons' greeting & regards.
I realized it was special from the beginning, ever since I saw it on the cover of Forza 4. Ive always loved it. And in retrospect, I was right as they went to turbocharged after this. This was the last street car from Ferrari that was overflowing with soul.
They are not thermal events; they are rapid oxidation occurrences
Love the @thecarguys.tv ! Great GT3 videos from years ago.
Great review, super of Damian to lend it to you as he has given me first refusal on it!!
458, best car I've ever driven.
So happy to hear your keeping it... love both channels ...James just the best series of the year!
This is the best Ferrari IMO looks sooooooooooooo beautiful that NA V8 sounds sooooooooooooo good I just hope someday I will be able to buy it. Happy holidays love from India
You can pin the exhaust valves open and then it's sonorous all the time
My "childhood ferrari" was the 360 Modena, but the 458 pushes all the right buttons for me as well. More than any of its prancing horse successors.
Love the 458! Thoroughly enjoyed driving one of these around Thruxton. And this spec is definitely "me" 😁
The problem I have is the price is very close to a F12 & given the choice I’d have that any day of the week
Wanted one since I first saw it on topgear. Truly stunning car. But now I can afford one I just can't do it because I would always wish it was manual. Rather have something older and more engaging and with a proper gearbox.
Guess I could buy one for the "art" factor :)
Its beautiful.. mine is black 2014..
