Have you seen the straight-piped F30 Canyon Run video? I would never put anything that loud on my own car but god I must've listened to that video hundreds of times...
When I was a teen, my dad and I went to go look at the new models at a Ferrari dealership while on vacation. A brand representative, knowing full well we had no real intent (or means) to make a purchase, let me start up the white 458 Spider on the second floor. It was such a small occasion, and a commonplace one for those who have the access, but the memory still remains vivid 10 years on. Glad to see 458 has only gotten better with age.
Not entirely true, $25k down, 740 credit score, 12 year finance. It's very possible on 125k-140k a year. Two people working, even more possible. I've seen my wife alone make $3350 in one week as a nurse, multiple weeks at a time. I my self drive Semis so I see $2,000 a week, it's definitely possible if we really want to piss away $3,000 a month before insurance. Invest everything you can in the S&P 500 and let those 10% yearly gains compound. Year 10, 1 million in and that's 10% hits 1.1 million. You can withdraw the 100k for life, take a 22% capital gain hit on the 100k each year, and use the dividends to pay the taxes honestly. I'd rather be financially free by 35, versus having 1 Ferrari. If you want to suffice the itch, rent one 3-4 times a year for $1800 a day and save thousands. It's the best way to have your cake and eat it to. Ferraris realistically should only be driven about 2,500-5,000 miles per year anyways. 80% of the time that cars parked if you financed.
Aside from the navigation software, this car hasn't aged a day since it came out 15 years ago. Both the exterior and the interior look completely modern, even better than modern. It's timeless.
It’s amazing that this was only one generation on from the F430. The tech and capability of this is world’s apart from the 430. Also, you’re right, how is this a “slow” supercar now?? The car world is madness.
This came out 2009, but if it was released today, I don’t think anybody would be mad. The design aged beautifully. That naturally aspirated v8 with the 9000rpm redline is a gem.
The design is so modern, looks on par with contemporaries from 10 years later. Like you mentioned not 2 minutes in to the video. This is a great design, and a great car. And a great video bringing it all together.
@@mbvbm3104 it’s timeless because Ferrari stuck with the design lmao. The f8 tributo is just a refresh of the 488, which in large was just a refresh of the 458
The 458 is the ultimate dream car for me. No, it doesn't have the screaming Lamborghini v12. No, it isn't as fast as a stock c8 Corvette to 60. What it does have though is unarguable, incredible beauty. An NA v8 that sings to you with every rev and redline. A gearbox that allows you to be the musician in a high pitched, violent, screaming orchestra as you delicately work your way through the gears. A design that is so timeless, it will look good from every angle, every time, forever. This car is the ultimate v8 supercar, and for me, it always will be
I firmly believe the 458 was the last of the truly driver-focused normal Ferrari, obviously excluding the Pista and such cars. With the noise and the perfect amount of power, the 458 remains one of the best cars I have driven to date, period. Great video again Tom!
I feel like it's a golden era for supercars. 997 GT3, this the very last Murcis and Gallardos... Everything that came out since then has either been "too much" (too powerful etc) or too numb. It's just McLaren which peaked a few years later with the 675LT, and Porsche who's still going very strong.
This is my favorite Ferrari ever. Gorgeous looks, high-revving naturally aspirated V8 with enough power to enjoy without killing yourself, paired to a great DCT gearbox. And that sound. Oh my
The sound!!! Holy shit. 10 years on and it's still IT. Why bother with the new ones?!??! This was the 458 POV video I needed in my life. I need a trust fund, ugh.
Still remember the day I saw this thing for the first time. It was one of those generational cars that grabbed your attention like no other, a special one, loved by all and will always be remembered for how close to perfect it was. I'd say this is the greatest ferrari ever, the complete package!
the 458’s will always keep their value. don’t get me wrong, cars like the taycan and gemera are great cars, but the tech and styling will age them. the 458 will look and feel great for a long while
Yeah this is the Ferrari that doesn't make you wonder if you should've bought a Lamborghini and gotten a V10. I think the 458 has been a legend since its launch and people still love these cars like mad. It's a dream car
The only modern supercars/super sportscars that remind me of how supercars like the 458 were are the Huracán EVO RWD, 992 GT3, or a C7 Corvette Grand Sport. Lightweight, not too powerful, and amazing performance without too much compromise.
This is, in my eyes, the ultimate Ferrari. It's got an awesome screaming NA V8, a beautiful and elegant design that is unmatched by Ferrari today, and what seems to be essentially the ideal balance of tech and raw performance.
i didn't look at the title and couldnt believe this wasn't a brand new car until you mentioned it was a 2011. Amazingly modern looking but in the best way
I was fortunate to drive one of these on the streets of Maranello. At the time, the 430 Scuderia blew me away, but the 458 was so smooth and refined in comparison. Two very different cars but wonderful in their own way. I’ll never forget driving either of them.
You make excellent points, ones I've been saying as well myself. We sold our GTR last year and picked up a 2020 Lotus Evora when looking for a new high performance car, just for these very reasons ...you can actually enjoy sub 600 HP cars and in our case a 400 ish HP Lotus, where as the 700hp and higher cars we test drove, were essentially useless on public roads. The gearbox in the 718 manual we drove was useless as well, as you're in getting arrested territory in 2nd gear...like you said, what are you supposed to do with that? If I was going to pick any Ferrari, I'd take a 458 too.
this car is so wonderful that i didn't even know it was cloudy, gray and crappy out until you said it. That's how much brighter this car makes your day. :)

I agree, for me this is the most elegant modern Ferrari, and given it has the last naturally aspirated V8 with modern technology, it's really one of a kind. It drives great and it's actually reliable compared to all previous Ferraris. It's on top of my car buying list.
i agree with you. Anything over 500 hp is overboard. Cars with 600 hp or 700 hp are getting into the formula 1 terrority and road cards don't have the aero, grip or space to use that power. I think this is the perfect balance between the two.
It's the sound that makes me want one. When they turbo charged they started sounding like they had cotton stuffed into the exhaust compared to how this car can scream.
Nice review buddy. I was never a Ferrari fan until I drove one of these on track. This was back before i had any skills developed but i could still tell this car was special. The engine and chassis are just so approachable and rewarding. Fast forward to now its still in my opinion the best modern day “super car”.
I had a chance to rent one of these outside of Maranello for 20 minutes, while the hairy-chested Italian man next to me kept taunting me to go faster. Top 5 moments in my life. The sound...my god the sound.
I don't think I can overstate how much I would rather have this than 99% of the exotic cars being made today. This car is a masterpiece.
