- At the drop of a hat i decided to go to Goole, don't know why, i just did....Goole is a port town and civil parish on the River Ouse in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The town's historic county is the West Riding of Yorkshire.
According to the 2021 UK census, Goole parish had a population of 21,952, It is 16 miles north-east of Doncaster, 19 miles south of York and 29 miles west of Hull.
The town has the United Kingdom's furthest inland port, being about 50 miles from the North Sea. It is capable of handling nearly 2 million tonnes of cargo per year, making it one of the most important ports on England's east coast.
Goole is twinned with Złotów in Poland. Goole was informally twinned with Gibraltar in the 1960s; at that time, Gibraltar Court was named in Goole and Goole Court was named in Gibraltar.
Sadly a reflection of a lot of old industrial towns in England. Thanks for sharing.
That's right Chris...when you visit these small rundown towns it hits home that the country is on it's knees.

I’ve never been to Google either. Although I had mate from there and he always said that there was a good community spirit.
But like most places now - very run down and forgotten. Looked a bit like a ghost town when you were there.

Thanks for going to Goole, Steve. Now I don't have to. We've had our fill of run-down towns up in the northeast. Thankfully, they're recovering these days. There is hope for Goole, but it did look like it was still reliant on its faded past glories. I suspect it was a bustling port in its prime. Hopefully, it will get some regeneration money spent on it.

Of course I’ve been to Goole, we used to go on holiday there as children. Great place to stay and lots to do and see. Can’t beat Yorkshire (east, west, north or south), for a beautiful county. Looks like its changed a little from the 50s. We used to love swimming in the River Ouse and naturally of course fishing. Great place, thanks for taking me back. Mike 👍
Never heard of anyone going to Goole on holiday before...I am sure you have some smashing memories from those days...swimming in the Ouse, they say mud is good for the skin...thanks Mike....hope you have a cracking Christmas, although i am not sure you do Christmas.....Merry Christmas anyway.

Goole it’s on our drive down to Stansted Airport so we drive through it a couple of times a year, even stopped to do a spot of shopping there. Not as bad as the name suggests! Loved this closer look at the place. Blue badges too! Nice artwork on your way out from the station too! Don’t know why but I Never realised it was on the River Ooze! Darn that false advertising was just about to get in the car and head down there! Great explore and music ❤
It made a change i suppose..apparently Mike used to go swimming in the Ooze...it was ok but don't think i will be hurrying back

I always enjoy a spontaneous trip! Never heard of Goole before … nice town and I bet it’s a great place to live! It’s interesting that it’s a busy port, and far up the river, but then I think of Portland Oregon, which is also quite a ways inland along the Columbia River from the Pacific. I drove through Google to get home from RSPB Blacktoft Sands in late Summer but didn’t stop, now I don’t have to. Thanks to you I’ve seen it. Happy New Year in 2024.

It's really not that bad to be honest, it's a little run down in the centre but the outskirts get nicer and the surrounding villages are lovely.

im from Goole, i love the place. many towns are described as shitholes. the name Goole is derived from the old English gol. which meant open sewer leading into to a river. so Goole literally means shithole 😂. its not though its a loverly place.

@@atrampinthehills.841 Kind of, because the New Year absolutely beats them all! And the 7 January Christmas, this is the one the Eastern Orthodox Church celebrates (in the Russian-speaking countries and Greece). There Easter is king. Still cool how things may go round the world.
