      Considering the fact that Neil already knew his fate, the whole song and the lyrics that Neil wrote makes this on to an true swan song.

      40 years the man was my idol. I knew all the drums and lyrics to many a Rush album. 2022 and the scars are still deep.

    I've never gotten through this song with dry eyes.
    With the exception of the Beatles, I can think of no other band who ended up their career at the top of their game. To release an album like this when all three men were nearly in their '60's defies logic and reason. In my view, I can argue that it is arguably their greatest all around album. To put a ribbon on a career not only with this album, but with this song as a finale is proof of how special these three were and remain. It has been an absolute privilege to be a fan of theirs since 1981 when I was 11 and never missed a tour since for a total of 49 shows.
    I miss these guys......

      Just recently they admitted that they knew but had to keep it all in for respect to Neil's wishes... it must have been heartwrenching.

    • @AndrewD3382
      @AndrewD3382 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neil wasn't symptomatic or diagnosed until 2016 after the R40 tour ended. This video wasn't even from their last tour. They all knew when he knew and kept it secret and close out of respect for Neil's wishes until he passed, but at the point of this video, no one, not even Neil, knew he was sick.
      In retrospect, this song embodies a perfect swansong for the band and for Neil personally. Given what we know now, it's incredibly emotional with the weight of his passing. I know at the time of the tour, when I was in the crowd, it didn't read as a farewell, just an amazing song.
      And therein lies the beauty of their genius: their art continues to build new meaning and importance as time goes on. True relevance and brilliance.

    A friend - a good man - died over the weekend suddenly of a heart attack, and another of my friends was there with him when it happened. As you can imagine, he's fairly distraught. I used Neil's words about legacy from "The Garden" to console him. I think it helped him; I'm sure it helped me. Neil Peart is sorely missed.

    My favorite Rush song of all time hands down! This song meant so much to them they wanted it to be perfect this was their way of saying goodbye to the fans that they loved so much. I also think in retrospect this was Neil's way of saying goodbye because at that time I think he knew that something was wrong and it was his way of saying goodbye.

    Great track and it was a shame that they didn't get back to the UK after the Clockwork Angels tour, for me those shows were not that great, I didn't like the string backing, Time Machine still the best shows over here and more than a fitting epitaph for Neil.

      I had reservations when I heard about bringing the string ensemble on the road with them. But I ended up LOVING it! Not only did it add to the songs, ya gotta remember this was how the songs from CA were recorded. Dreamline had strings in the studio version also. Authenticity.
