    The new Nike Pegasus Trail 2 is an awesome and complete overhaul of an already enjoyable trail rendition of the popular road shoe. What do you think of the dramatic changes? Are you excited to give the Pegasus Trail 2 a try or will you be passing on it for something else?

      In terms of fit, I usually wear size 11 but I went with a size 11.5 in the wildhorse 6 which fit great. But in these should I get a 11 or 11.5 ?

    I just took my pair out yesterday for my first run back on trails since February. Over the past few months of road running I've fallen in love with the Pegasus Turbo 2's and the Pegasus 37 road shoes so I figured, why not complete the trifecta with the Trail Peggies? I agree with everything you said in this video. Super soft and comfy and a lot of fun. But I did have issues getting the shoe locked down and as a result of the extra width felt like my feet were sliding around a few times. And also felt like the ride was pretty high which led to some stability issues further into the run. But, that being said, I'll wear these shoes until they are completely worn out. I am a big fan of what's happening here and am excited to log more miles in them. Thanks for the review Ethan!

    My impression is that Nike is capitalizing on/using the React foam in a lot more shoes, raising stack heights and forefoot heights/widths, and increasing weight accordingly so as to meet the current desires of runners for all the above. All while growing the choices and staying in the ~$130 range (think Trail 2 and react Miler).

  • @jdgio1983
    @jdgio1983 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just bought a pair and was pleasantly surprised. I usually don’t run trails and haven’t run in Nike shoes in a long time (usually run on the road in Hoka shoes). But the Pegasus Trail 2 served as a nice commuter shoe for me to run from my home to the Colorado foothill trails about a mile away. I did a nice easy 6-mile run, and it was really comfortable in the shoes. The React Foam was soft and had a bit of spring to it. Like others said, they are a bit heavy, but for what I’m doing out there, it’s not a big deal. Always appreciate the reviews here and haven’t been steered wrong yet.

    Don't get me wrong.. I like the channel very much and respect the work you put bringing us this reviews but 333gr size 42-43 is a no no for me... It is extremely heavy..and all that for a shoe that is not meant for super technical terrain but rather for mild trails! I simply don't see why, definitely better options out there...

    Ran in high school, Nikes always fit me best. Went from Nike Air Max to Triax to finally the Structure in my older age. This year I started actually running consistently and bought a pair of React Infinity Run Flyknits and LOVE them, but they're not great on trails. More of a road shoe, so today I bought a pair of these. I'm really looking forward to lots of long runs through the trees!

  • @outdoorelement
    @outdoorelement 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You failed to mention they departed from the zoom air unit. Pegasus are legacy kicks. They used to be full-length zoom/tensile (forever)...then the road when to just forefoot and now these trials removed the air unit altogether. Personally, I would have kept a full-length Zoom and let the React complement the air unit for midsole damping. The Air unit means = constant damping and constant return for the life of the shoe. Foam slowly dies over time. Air might be old tech but is the best technology for damping midsole material. ...and last I checked, a zoom air unit weighs less per unit volume vs the React foam. ...they could have the best of both worlds. This version could use a diet on weight! I currently run in the 36 Trails now and will likely buy a couple of pair and wait for gen 3. It does look interesting and the fact that you said it can take you through an ultra makes me want to try them out. I think the P36T are good for 15-20 miles max. (I tried Altra for a while but Nike has won me back)

      OK, I also have Peg 36 Trail, would like to know if you got a pair of Trail 2, and what are your comments. Agree on the air unit, also have Winflow 7, and see what you mean. Still wanna know if there is a noticeable difference, thanks!

    • @outdoorelement
      @outdoorelement 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markmoscosa2371 I did purchase the New Trail 2 (plus some an older Wildhorse)!
      I have to admit the full React foam midsole is very responsive. The overall shoe is heavier than I want but I am impressed. If I'm Nike, the next gen should have 6-8mm drop, a full-length zoom air in the insole (sock liner), and a carbon plate integrated into the midsole. It will act as a stone guard and give some amazing return with each step (small leaf spring). I also felt like the toe box was a little more open/wider which was a big step for Nike. I already made these suggestions to Nike Corporate office (likely to fall on deaf ears coming from a guy who designs adventure and survival gear, but I have a passion for running and love tech and innovation) good luck on the trails! There is a 1/2 marathon in Yellowstone by Vacation Races. I plan on running that in these Pegesus trails (I also want to do GC rim to rim in them).

    Thanks for your review, I love the Pegasus 36 Trail, along with the Pegasus 36 road shoe, I have 2 pair of each. I recently got a pair of the Pegasus 37 and like it as well. It is a bit different to the 36, it lacks a bit of the responsiveness of the 36, but is a better long run shoe, for me at least. The Pegasus Trail 2 sounds like a very different shoe, not just an update, which is a bit disappointing, for me at least. Also, go back into the history of the Pegasus line, several versions in the 90s were over 12 oz, so Nike has form in this regard. I suspect they will fix the weight issue in the 3 or 4. I am not fat-shaming the shoe, but for 100k and 100mi ultras, weight really does matter, especially when there is a lot of vert involved. I am looking at a 105k trail ultra in 4 weeks, with over 3000m (Not ft) of vert, the 105mi has a lot more. Having to drag the extra weight up the mountain and the saddle behind it every lap (5 or 8 times depending on which 100 you do) will take a toll at the back end.

    I can’t say my Peg 36s were my favorite trail shoe but they got the job done just not as well as some of my Atras and most definitely not as well as my Salomons. With that said where my pegs have excelled is on the road. I have over 600 road miles in these shoes and don’t see getting any other shoes for a while. I’ve been really impressed with their durability. As for the Peg 2s I’m not sure? If I did give them a go it would most likely be when they go on sale. I’m just so stoked on my Salomons when it comes down to how well they feel/grip the trail.

Before this video, I was planning to buy the Peg Trail 2s to replace the Trail 36s but now slightly apprehensive about the weight gain. That said, I’m not looking to win any trail races any time soon! I’m usually not a fan of the maximal chunky design of some of these shoes coming out, but I really dig these! Definitely haven't wore any trail shoes by nike... I always loved the pegasus series starting from the 35's, and now own the improved to me 37's. I always buy multiple of shoes that I really enjoy in different colorways, but the 37's don't really have much to offer in this category which is why when I saw the Trail "version" of the 37's I did a little research. So far I noticed I like the style of the shoe and can use them for normal casual wear along with off-roading the shoe.

To get a really good fit you have to pull the laces really tight but the tongue isn’t thick enough to so they end up cutting in. Shame because otherwise an awesome shoe.

    I use the Pegasus 36 Trail GTX as my wintertrainer! Could U also do a review of the GTX version, a lot of rain where I live so the GTX in the first shoe was absolutely needed here!

    I work in health care. I walk a lot on linoleum and carpeted covered floors that are concrete underneath. I have good luck with trail runners. The new Saucony Peregrines that I bought aren’t working out. Sometimes Nike runs small and kind of narrow. Would you recommend the Pegasus Trail 2 for my purpose?

    Would you still recommend copping the first version if I can find it new over this one? I will mostly be running on concrete but want to be able to break out on trails. Lastly true to size for a wide footer on both 1 and 2? The 35 Turbo was way too tight on me at TTS.

    I'm not sure if it's coincidence but I find I've started rolling my ankles quite a bit more since wearing these shoes. Plus, because of the height of the shoe, when I go over, I come down hard on the ankle. Is it just me?...

    I am debating between salomon-sense-ride-3-shoes and these. Im not doing huge distance - maybe 6 - 13 miles on trails but really enjoying a break from the road. I am keen on the fit but the Nike versions do stand out on style. I have a wider foot so taking that in to account would you reocmmend one way or the other? I have both in a basket ready to go.....

    The previous Pegasus trail was really a road shoe with a grippy outsole. I have the GTX version of it and I bought it to be my bad weather road/dirt road running shoe. It was a spot on buy. But I would not dare using it on mountain trails here in the Alps. There is nothing on the feel of that shoe that makes me want to run in them downhill in a mountain. The beginning of this review looked like "Ok, so Nike did a trail shoe this time... and of course it had to gain weight specially if its a more ultra shoe. My ultra shoes are 320..350grams" but then I saw the stability part and thought: Why I would want a trail running shoe that "wants to rollover most of the time". Sorry Nike, this doesn't make much sense.
