  • In this video I try to get some more power out of my old Velo Solex 1700 by tuning it with a performance upgrade!
    I have been wanting to try a performance aluminum barrel with modified ports and piston to get some more speed and torque out of my Velo solex...
    It is really struggling on trips with other mopeds and if its loaded with luggage...
    But does it make a difference on this moped?

    If it was me id be fitting a 2nd solex to the rear wheel just for fun 😂,i didn't know such tuning parts were available for the solex engine...Every day is a school day haha

    A very interesting video showing the difference between the new 'aluminium' cylinder vs the old cast iron one and the updated piston to suit. I think the performance will improve when the piston has seated itself in, it sounds a more hollow note. Having 3 rings may wear away the cylinder quicker. Then of course what lets these engines down is the transmission.
    Please after you have run it a bit longer, can you remake the video showing us any improvements.

    Super fede videoer! Jeg ejer selv en Velo Solex 5000 fra 1971. Den bliver aldrig solgt og kører helt fantastisk. 32 km/t

      Det var sgu en hurtig en! Jeg ved ikke hvad der gør det, men 5000 modellen har altså tendens til at være hurtigere... det er jo samme motor, så det må være "gearingen" med hjulets størrelse.. :D

      Tja, Jeg var også meget i tvivl da jeg startede kanalen... Men det blev på engelsk! Det giver også mulighed for at få kontakt med flere rundt omkring i hele verden... Det kan være en fordel når man skruer på sære sjældne biler... ;)

      Det er en lidt gammel video, så husker det ikke helt.. Men tror ikke at jeg dyssede den der ind.. så den har nok kørt med 29 hvilket gør man ikke helt for det fulde udbytte :)
      standard topstykke.. Jeg har en anden video herinde hvor jeg installere et STORT tun sæt på en velo :)

    How does the engine drive the front tire? Does it have a gear or a belt?

      Its driven by a friction roll... Actually just a small wheel that presses against the tire :)

      @@SDsailor7 Yes! And its very important that the centrifugal clutch works, otherwise it will burn a hole in the tire in no time when standing still.. :)

    Hej, jag har en 2200 o funderar på att köpa o montera ett kit med alu cylinder men att stanna där - inte byta ut topp, förgasare eller avgassystem. Hittar två typer av kit; antingen 41 mm eller 39,5 mm diameter. Större diameter borde väl ge bättre torque - eller...vilken testade du, vilken skulle du välja idag? Min andra knallert är en Solex Flash från 1969 som utan problem kör i 35-40 kmh, otrimmad. Hoppas åka "blommelöbet" i sommar, kanske ses vi där!?

      Jeg husker faktisk ikke om det er 41 eller 39.5 jeg har... Men tror det er 41.
      Det går ganske fint kun med cylinder, men den skal have større dyse eller en justerbar strålespids... Jeg vil anbefale dyse... Strålespidsen gør den lidt svære at starte. :)
      Jeg kender ikke blommeløbet, men skal køre Velo solex Rally på bornholm til sommer! :)

    I have had big problems starting my 2200, since i changed to the aluminium cylinder- it simply wont drive (engine is acting funny) have til har similar problems?

    Okay tak kan du huske hvor du købte den ? Har set de har 3 slags moped speed med 3 skylle kanaler en 39.5 mm og en 40 mm og en 41 mm syntes din lignede den 40 mm på den måde udstødningporten så ud. Kan du huske hvad det var for en du købte. Jeg har en solex magen til din som kun kører 27 så ville ønske jeg kunne få mere ud af den.

      mener at det var 39... kan godt være 40...
      Har købt den enten på mopedspeed eller cafesolex.. :)
      Jeg har siden monteret flere 39 fra cafesolex med 32 dyser... det køre ret godt... ca 37kmt

      Its easy to make yourself from the old head actually... a piece of glass and wet sandpaper. :)

      Could be... already have a 30 tho.. and it goes onto 4 stroke quite easy which indicates to much fuel...
      I think that my exhaust could be abit clogged...

      Its actually already jetted up a bit... Id like to keep the original look of the bike, so no pipe... :)

      @@SeasideGarage unfortunatly that is your limiting factor. the extra port timing is opposing the resonance of the standard exhaust. try REDUCING the exhausts exit diameter ;)

      Yes a better exhaust and bigger carb gives it maybe 3-4 kmt more... not a lot but still something :)
