- In this video I try to fix a Velo Solex that belongs to a viewer of my channel.
Is a wonderful old Velo Solex 2200 that has not been running for years!
What I was expecting to be a quick and easy fix, turned out to a bit of a ordeal...
But noting beats hearing a old engine coming back to life.... but will that happen?

EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM THAT MINE HAD!!! WOW... this is the first time I've ever seen it happen to somebody else. Those bent brackets with the fork that contacts the nut is the first thing I noticed. When I saw it, I knew it was the end of my dear little bike. And I was right! I am not half the mechanic you are (mon ami)... especially when I was 17. Those side plates on mine ripped right through the bolt holes. And NO I didn't abuse It. I loved that little bike and took extremely good care of it. The damn problem just happened. Or that's the way it seemed. One day it was fine and the next, it was like yours. And mine was a 3800 too. EXACTLY like that one. I finally gave it away. After watching what you went through, I'm glad I didn't try to fix it. Well, I got 4 good years of use out of it anyway. That happened to me in 1977. Dad bought it for me in1973 for my 14th birthday.
Every Velo owner probably wishes they had you sitting in their toolbox...

Very cool to see that you helped the young man out - was he not interested in tagging along and learning how to do it himself? I hope that my sons will enjoy working in the garage with me, when they are older.
Sadly, we are a dying breed, especially now that electric transportation is the future. Not because I hate electric cars in any way, I hope they can help save the planet and allow us "gearheads" to keep our classic vehicles.

Uh... I really think its time to do something for the environment but the thought of loosing the petrol engine is really scaring me... Its such a big part of who I am now... :O

@@SeasideGarage I'm afraid that's the way it's going - but hopefully all the electric cars will allow us to keep the special ones running, atleast that's my hope :D

We call them Solex's here. But that's all he means by it.
You are right, But in Denmark they are known as Velos.... no matter if its a velo solex or a velo vap! ;)

Nice vids. I have 3800 velosolex, it runs good but when I ride uphill, it losses compression, what do you recommend? Thanks
I doubt that it looses compression going uphill.... it most likely just loses power... :) It is normal that a Velo needs help on hills... But it could be fuel, compression or timing... hard to say. Good luck!
Isn't that just typical , what you think may be a easy job always throws up another set of challenges.

I say do a few moped repair jobs, and use the money you earn, to buy yourself a non-Maxi framed Puch 😁😉 Also, I was thinking.... what if I ship you my bike before I leave, and put it together when I arrive for Mellsta? Then could ride my own bike..It's a legally registered Michigan road vehicle...I wonder if other places would honor that......... Was just thinking...
That could be fun! I dont know if you will be allowed to ride it though... If it runs more then 30kmt it will not be legal...

@@DetroitMicroSound Yep.... more then that and you get fined.. ;) Its a bit silly.
But yea.. it is possible to register them as a motorcycle... but then you can no longer ride them on bike roads... and thats a shame...
@@SeasideGarage 😥 ..I could send it with a lightly ported stock top end, 15mm Bing, and derestricted stock Puch pipe....and stock 14x45 gearing... 😉
