Wow!!! , shows how a more”shoddy” repair can be deceiving, to my eyes I honestly thought Tinys legs were damaged with bits snapped off but it was just copious amounts of glue giving that illusion, also shows just what an initial clean and tidy up can do and the difference it can make .
Have you tried dissolving scraps of styrene in plastic weld? Model makers uses bits of sprue in the same way to fill large gaps. You could have taken a mould of the one for Mark, using Blue Stuff, poured some in a waited for it to go off, potentially leaving you with a single piece of styrene that could have been modified to fit Tiny, avoiding the need to cut the post out.
That's pretty cool. When I was a kid, all I wanted was these 5 in action figures, but I never had the chance to get any of them. The closet I could get was the Funko POP 3 Gatchman figures of Ken, Joe, & Jun a year ago. I didn't even know these 2 guys you got existed. I really appreciate you & the person that sent them to you sharing them with us. They're really neat & you did an amazing job.
Another great repair video. I'm sometimes amazed that our toys from the 70s have survived as well as they have, considering how fragile some of the parts were. Hopefully you can continue to fill out your collection :)
Nice fixes! Dave! The GI JOE t-bar hook to the rescue! Good choice to use the elastic instead of the O-ring on Tiny. That worked out better, and seems to have also put less stress on the plastic. As for removing the glue, some super glues like the Loctite brand come off if you soak a cloth in vegetable oil and skin moisturizer, and then rub that soaked cloth against the glue, allowing the vegetable oil and moisturizer on the cloth soak in for a bit. After a while, that should help the glue to come off. Loctite says that soaking the glue area in white vinegar also works. You just need a dull spatula kind of tool to scrape the glue away after the soak. Always great to get a new video from you, Dave!
I've used cricut sticky backed vinyl, which comes in gloss and flat options, for replacing kenner capes, etc. with great results! Stick two sheets together (a gloss side + flat side), cut out using a ToyPolloi pattern, and you are done. Replicates the look and feel of vintage kenner vinyl - coloring, thickness, etc. and better than customs I've bought off eBay over the years. It's a DIY that's worth a try!
I can somehow feel the plastic that original cape looks to be made of, although certainly from a different source, and one place you might be able to find a similar material is a party supply store, or even perhaps a pound shop: a plastic tablecloth, without any "batting" on the back, may be closer to that texture and thinness. I'm positive that this or a very similar material is out there, and in fairly large pieces that have to be unfolded.
The cape material looks like whatever older Lego capes were made of or maybe tyvek. Kinda papery woven material. I may be very wrong. Tyvek mostly comes in white but may be too translucent.
I have the Diamond Select Princess still in her blister card that was gifted by a Gathcaman fan when I was working on the BotP comics with Alex Ross and Munier Sharrieff. These Popy figures seem to be based on the microman figures, too.
At some point someone may 3-D print the helmets and weapons for these. I would be tempted to paint the Jason helmet for Mark...but on the other hand, if you get a Jason figure missing his helmet you already have one
Those are really rare figures. I've looked for the set sometimes, but it's always too expensive. Nice fixing, as we say here in Italy "hanno cambiato faccia" (they've changed face).
Hi Dave, do you have any of the Metal- Man figures in your collection? I had a few as a child and still have one ( Radon ) who sadly has a broken foot but until recently had no idea who he was or what toy line he was from. I’m just curious if you’re aware of them.
Ive seen you come up with so many macguyver esc methods of toy repair and restoration over the years that I fully expected you to produce some make-shift replacement helmets for these two. I still cant tell if thats out of your field of expertise honestly 😂.
I know your a toy guy . But have you read the battle of the planets comics ? Image comic put the series out under there top cow line along with witch blade and highlander comics .

Didn't even know these figures existed! Enjoyed watching the cartoon, in the early 1980s, on Channel 2 ABC (Australia).
I would have been over the top if I had these figures as a kid. Battle of the Planets was a favorite of mine growing up.
Same here. I loved the cartoon. Had the best theme tune!
To quote Count Dooku, "I've been looking forward to this."

You can never tell what is going on underneath. It's like archeology in toy form.
So glad you decided to do Marks hair. The damage was all I could see before.
Didn't know they had Battle of the Planets/Gatchman figures. Learn something new every day.
These turned out to be some beautiful additions to your collection. Can’t wait to see what you add next.
Thanks so much!
Great job. I'd never seen these figures until your unboxing video. Excellent fixes as always. They look great.
Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers

I made the phoenix out of Lego as I didn't know of any battle of the planets toys.
Always a blast to watch!!

It amazes me as well. These feel really delicate.
Great job one more time!!!!! You have a toy problem there is Toy Polloi !!!!!
Thank you 🤗

Yeah, Tiny had an owl-like helmet. Ah, memories of childhood 😁
Awesome video, my friend! I have learned so much from you in restoring our childhood memories. Thank you for all that you do and for your channel!
My pleasure!

I'll check that out. Thanks.

Hey Dave
As many other toy lines, if not for you, I had no idea these existed. Thanks for sharing.
Happy Weekend to you and MrsTP 😊
Thanks. These were new to me as well.

The cape looks very similar to the design that many Lego capes.
They do. That fold over the neck post gives a good shape.

It has a woven feel, but it's not a fabric. Just textured plastic.

Thats cool. What did you do on the comics?
@@toypolloi I drew the interior art of all 12 issues plus alternate covers. I also drew the BotP: Princess miniseries.
Amazing!

From the way it was described in the video I'm wondering if the capes are made from Vinyl.
It feels different to that to me. Not so soft and flexible.
@@toypolloiinteresting, now I'm really curious about these figures. Great video.

Thanks. They are really interesting to work on. Similar construction to other toys, but yet very different.

I have one of them. They are pretty cool.
So I have to ask would steam have removed the glue?
No idea. Would be worth a try.

I'm still thinking about it. If I can come up with something I will give it a go.
Dave you could have used JB Weld on the Hip Balls
Not sure how? As there were no hip balls to glue back.
A cheap showercurtain should have the texture of the original cape.
I'll take a look. Cheers
Looks like a lot of missed leg days on Centre Neptune
I know your a toy guy . But have you read the battle of the planets comics ? Image comic put the series out under there top cow line along with witch blade and highlander comics .
I haven't. I need to rewatch the show as I've not seen it in years.
As I'm watching this, my daughter came I'm with one of her toys she'd just broken.
Hopefully you can fix it for her!
@toypolloi Yeah, just a door popped off its studs. I pushed it back, no problem
The clear thread might be fishing line
Could well have been that.

Are these G Force figures
Battle of the Planets or Gatchaman is the proper name. The team was called G force in the series.
@@toypolloi I've got a dvd it's just titled G force of the cartoon
Maybe a US version?
It is region 2
I found it bought it in a charity shop
That glue looks a lot like gorilla glue. From what I understand, isopropyl alcohol will remove gorilla glue.
This repair was very old. Not sure Gorilla glue has been around that long? I don't know what it was.
