As kids we didnt know how good this cartoon really was and how lucky we were to have grown up in that time.
The production, animation, soundtrack, the stories and character conflicts and villains. It was a simpler time then but this show set the standard. Their helmets, suits, capes, were all so freakin cool then, and still are. I often wish I could thank the people who made this, Sandy Frank. Even the narrator is epic. Cheers my 80’s friends!

Watched this from the first day it hit American TV in September of 1978, and after a decade of all the usual Saturday morning cartoons, it really hit the spot.
I've watched my share of television in my life when I was a kid, and I honestly can't remember an intro this good.
The intro music sounded serious and well above other animated series I'd seen, and it made me feel as if I were about to see something important.

Honestly I do think that TV show theme songs were much more memorable in the 60s 70s and 80s. Sure, the kids who grew up in 90s and 2000s remember their shows and themes, but one difference is that re-runs were more prevalent before and so you really seriously, picked up on these theme songs for many many years of your childhood, to that point that it's still memorable now, decades later.

In Japan, there is an entire genre of these kinds of shows with 3 or 5 cast members as the heroes, doing their things on an episodic basis for their TV shows.
So definitely, one inspires the next, but they also follow a certain formula that the kids like.

Growing up in Australia, I would tune into channel Win4, and even with not so good reception, loved this cartoon. It was an escape, a release from the stresses of growing up, peer pressure, and feeling like you couldn't relate to planet Earth. Brings back fond childhood memories.

This takes me back to a childhood where kids could go outside and play for hours without the parents worrying about them. Back when there was no internet, social media, cell phones and school shootings. Sure you got bullied but it stopped when you got home and the worse thing to happen to you is that you got beat up. I used to love racing home to watch this and loved Saturday morning cartoons with my siblings. Battle of the Planets had one of the most epic themes for a cartoon and as we all know there were several like that. Everyone have a great weekend as I feel like binge watching some quality cartoons starting with this one.

I believe "Battle Of The Planets" was a re-working of the 1970's Japanese cartoon series "Gatchaman", with some of the original show's footage dropped, some scenes made in the U.S. added, and a whole new soundtrack of dialogue and music put in as well.
