Never saw these in toy shops in the UK. But in 1981 I went on a school journey to Belguim and a toy shop there had an entire assortment of first season toys. Had to get the main ship and had hours of fun with it!
Ah the Gatchaspartan, Its cool but I have soft spot for the original God Phoenix. It was sleek and terribly retro 70's in design. When I was doing the Battle of the Planets comics for Image in the early 200s she was really fun to draw. =)
I had the Gatchaspartan as a very young boy. I never knew it was associated with Battle of the Planets until I was much older and found out about Gatchaman (the toy I had was in a Japanese box). But, man, that was such a cool toy.
I honestly never knew there were any toys for Battle of the Planets! Very interesting to see that there were and that they were so nice too! Interestingly there were major cuts to the series over here and outside it's native Japan. There are some comparison videos on TH-cam and the original was MUCH darker in tone. Another great Toy Polloi video!
Nice, I always wanted the Gatchaspartan as the idea of the five vehicles linking up to form the main ship was very appealing to me. The 'Spartan was from series 3, whilst the more bird-like Godphoenix and car you have were from season 2. My brother's and I had the season 2 toys; Phoenix, car, jet, and tank, but I was very frustrated that they didn't look like how they were supposed to having only been exposed to season 1 in the UK. Eventually I was able to scratch that itch with the Uni-Five Phoenix, and subsequent remakes of the season 2 phoenix and Gatchaspartan. Like you say, patience is a necessary virtue! Thanks for the memories.
Love seeing this toy getting its wings back again. The second season did get aired here in europe though. It was broadcast fully dubbed by Foxkids about 15 years ago under the name Eagleriders. It confused me a little at the time as i remembered the series as Battle of the planets.
Loved Battle of the Planets. It was "that one" cartoon that I managed to never get any toys from. I think I had a coloring book & maybe a shirt when I was itty bitty, but I never saw any toys in any local stores.
Gatchaspartan is actually from the third season Gatchaman Fighter (AKA Gatchaman F). I bought mine in the early 1980's at a toy shop in Dublin on one of my family's trips to Ireland. I also picked up that white eagle looking Phoenix ship and some of the individual vehicles which I later found out are from the second season, Gatchaman 2. We only got the first season of the show in New York and it was horribly edited & dubbed. Like you said, I didn't recognize that these toys were from the series. But because of the packaging I realized they were related and that was enough for me to spend almost all of the money I had made mowing lawns in New York for my trip to Ireland. Thanks for the videos!
I had this toy as a child. My brother and I used to watch Battle of the Planets all the time, and we never understood why the toy looked nothing like the TV series - at least that's cleared up. Anyway, I can remember exactly what the missing wheels were on No 4 - they were more tank treads. When it was in its transformed mode, there were two sets of treads, front and back. I'm sure I still have mine somewhere in they loft. Three and four were definitely intact. The others all had various bits of wear to them. But if I can find them, you're more than welcome to them.
The Gatchaspartan toy can fetch from $300- $800, even in the incomplete state that yours is in. It's a rare toy here in the U.S., Dave, and doesn't often turn up anywhere.
We used to watch Battle of the Planets as a kid, but NEVER saw any toys or anything else in the stores here in the States. Now I have gotten into sublimating t shirts, and have done a Battle of the Planets T (my own artwork.) I can send you one, if you'd like. Fan to fan.
Then when I got older, Cartoon Network aired an alternate English dub of Battle Of The Planets called G-Force. Unlike Battle Of The Planets version, the 5 members of G-Force weren't orphans like in Battle Of The Planets. Then Casey Kasem,Alan Young and Janet Waldo provided their voices for some of the characters in the Battle Of The Planets English dub. Boomerang once aired a marathon of Battle Of The Planets a few years after Cartoon Network aired G-Force.
Hi toy polloi, XTROYBOY7 from U.S . I am in need of a micronauts astro station sticker sheet if you have any on board please let me know and the price, I am reconstructing one on how I believed Mego should had made this wonderful vehicle. Also would like to send u pics of it when I'm done if you would like to see how it turned out knowing that u are a microman, micronauts enthusiast as I. My favorite toy line ever are the MICRONAUTS.Lastly happy that u were able to find the Gachaman Phoenix piece I remember when u first got the ship ENJOY. Warmest regards from U.S.
hello without toy polloi, I propose you an idea, I have a motu scareglow without a cape, and I don't know how to make it, could you make a video showing how to make it? thanks
Hey I just wanted to tell you this, but the MOTU figures that have arms that don’t pop off as easily just really scare me. And of course Scareglow just had to be one! Now I worry about the idea of my scareglow figure’s arm snapping off in while moving it or if it falls.
Yep that's true I actually own a Beast Wars Megatron and is actually missing a few parts like the chest plate piece and it's missing the head and it's missing the squirter and I have a Transformers Beast Wars Inferno and it's missing a couple of at legs and it's missing it's on tanners
"Yuke, yuke, yuke, Gatchaman" :D Do you have anything from the original series? I bought a ridiculously expensive diecast God Phoenix a few years ago, it's never coming out the box 🙃
Toy Polloi I’ll have to find your review 😄 That must have been before I found your channel. I have the “faded” version, the first run in the brighter colours is even more expensive now 😮
Love your job! Love your vids! About vehicle no 4 - there supposed to be two sets of caterpillars. Check out this th-cam.com/video/wQRwve2bLyI/w-d-xo.html. It's a different one but it shows how they look like.

You can hear the pure joy in his voice that he got a major part to fix up this ship just that much more.
Battle of the planets, loved it in the school summer holidays and it had one of the greatest theme tunes ever
One of my favourite shows as a kid! Absolutely love the Japanese first season of the show!!!
Loved that show. The ship reminds me a lot of the one from Ulysses 31.
I can remember buying this set for £5 reduced to clear from Woolworths in Devizes, Wiltshire. Kept me happy throughout summer 1984.

The original Phoenix was the best looking ship they had and should have kept it through all three series.

@@toypolloivery fragile popy toy I’m lucky cos i got one mint copy with popy Italian box 📦 i bought it from a collector in 2001
The only merch I remember even seeing as a child was a pretty fantastic Batttle of the Planets kite in an outdoor market in Rye I think.

G Force. Got a model kit of the Phoenix. Super basic and never built. Good to see Microman in the house. Good find!
Oh man! 😲 that’s an awesome piece
I remember watching Battle Of The Planets when I was 5 or 6. I had a metal Battle Of The Planets lunchbox, but no toys for it here.

That would be cool. I'd love to see your work. Drop my a line via any of the social media links. cheers
Congrats Dave🙂

I was trying to think of the name. G force
@@TheGrungy1 me too. 😀👍
Would have loved that as a kid, it’s the right era but never saw this over here in Canada 🇨🇦
This is nice to see. I think the Spartan may be the first review of your I watched.
Cool project as usual
had this myself. probably still up in mum and dads attic. along with princess' motorbike. if it does show up ill keep you in mind for a donation.
I love the jets! :) I'm a huge power rangers/super sentai fan and these really do look like they would be from the show.
Gah, I used to have this, I broke the number 4 vehicle and had no idea where it came from but loved it while I had it.
Pretty much what you'd get if Darth Vader formed his own Power Rangers team. :P

I saw tons of those in Hong Kong.

It's not a figure I own. If I find one I'll cover making the Cape. Cheers
@@toypolloi okay great thanks for reading and responding
I always wanted toys from g force

Some of the figures are a bit brittle. Scare glow you need to be very careful with. And battle armour he-man.
Same thing happens with the Transformers Beast Wars that some Beast Wars figures had different names in Japan
Yep that's true I actually own a Beast Wars Megatron and is actually missing a few parts like the chest plate piece and it's missing the head and it's missing the squirter and I have a Transformers Beast Wars Inferno and it's missing a couple of at legs and it's missing it's on tanners

I have quite a few bits. And I have reviewed the version of the God Phoenix you mean, it was made by Uni Five.

£700 for the first release and £400 for the faded version on ebay 🙃
Yeah, prices are crazy. I'm glad I got it when I did. I don't think I paid much more than £80 for it.
Toy Polloi I think I got my from HobbyLinkJP for £250 😣 my p&p was probably £80 😝
amazing video, Thanks for posting :) so What does Toy Polloi mean.. Greek for Toy people? Toys for the People. People's toys? Toy Population?
It's a play on Hoi Polloi, which means 'The Many'. So you could say it means 'Many Toys'.
