    I worked for the company that competed against others win the contract to build the engine for the Comanche helicopter. They already had an unused engine design from a cancelled Air Force trainer so it was reconfigured into what is now the T800 turboshaft engine. The company acquired a UH-1 Iroquois (Huey) from a logging company and used it as a test bed for T800 engine.
    When competing bids were submitted for the government contract, it involved blue prints and theoretical estimates of horsepower and specific fuel consumption, etc.... When my company's (LHTEC) turn to submit, it involved all the requested material and "oh, by the way, here's a video of our engine in flight and here is the actual dynamometer readings of horsepower, torque and specific fuel consumption"...............That's how you win a contract!
    Unfortunately the program was cancelled, but the T800 went on to be used in other applications, both civilian and military.

    That's the most insight I've seen about the RAH-66. Thanks for the upload!

    Yes its expensive, but was undeniably capable and perfect for CAS due to highly degree of flight mobility.... Allowing it to find best angle for suppression fire

      it was underpowered and could be downed by a single 12.7mm round
      also, there's no reason for a stealth body on a helicopter because A: the rotor is loud and alerts anyone nearby and B: the body shape necessary for an attack helicopter will always be in a geometric zone of radar reflectivity

      Yes it's a good visual model but unfortunately it's not at all realistic in any other way. For the best experience, nothing has ever come close to NovaLogic's Comanche Gold.

    Good old video, ahead of its time in that era thats for sure, i do believe this design was kept and later used on the stealth chopper used in the osama raid, which has still been kept secret till this day 👌👍

    • @FlyboyHelosim
      @FlyboyHelosim  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Comanche is still ahead of its time in some respects even now, and no single helicopter since has incorporated all of the features it had. Also, while the specifics of the helicopter used in the Bin Laden raid have so far been largely kept secret, it's no secret that it was a Black Hawk retrofitted with stealth fairings.
