- 2 minutes of Helo "Video Montage", another one of my earlier video editing efforts...mostly Comanche footage, with some other clips and ends with 'my' Bell-47G5 'spinning down' after getting out of her...dubbed over Blurs' "Song 2" as it goes for 2 minutes...Note: A Comanche can fly faster backwards than a Bell 47-G's VNE ! Thanks to all whos videos featrure in this video.
Beautiful Comanche, smooth, sleek, deadly... almost as lovable as the 🖤Apache🖤... 😅
Cancelling the Comanche project was one of the biggest mistakes ever made in American aviation history.

What bugs me the most is that there is at least one (I was told three) fully operational, armed (gun installed), and functional Commanche(s) sitting in some hanger somewhere... Covered with a tarp... Forgotten.
Bring back the Commanche!!!!
we really need to stop cancelling perfect creations.
Sad too see it never went into full production, but it was a Cold War era project and even before it was cancelled it was obsolete, plus it never worked as well as they had hoped, think it had a lot of problems with the stealth on it.
It is armed. Lightly. Its main job is recon but can carry a aresenal of mixed lock on and free fire missles there hidden in a weapon bay that opens and closes. Its a stealth helicopter thats why it hides the weapons until it attacks.
I worked for Sikorsky aircraft during the test and development of the RAH 66...saw the first flight and subsequent flights until the big layoff of March 2000...I saw the then original test bed for the technologies....the zs76 Shadow..a standstd S76 with a tandem cockpit grafted onto the nose and a fenestron tail rotor that replaced the standard 4 bladed rotor...

It really depends on what role the UAV is performing, the Comanche is a reconnaissance vehicle and drowns perform that role vary nicely. As fare as a UAV payload is concerned it depends greatly on the UAV. It could be nothing but sensors to the lift capability of a light to medium bomber. In the next 10 year a lot of vary interesting UAV are going to hit the battlefield.

apache and cobra might bee old but with upgraded computers, radars, weapons it is ready to go kick some ass :D
Yes, I used footage from others, as many people do, and I admit that at the end of the video and in the info about the clip. This of one of the few videos I use other footage, I am not claiming it is all "my" footage. So, dunno if you can really say I "totally stole" , I did not go to his house and "steal" it from GrouchyMedia...
Pretty much , just to "fill out" the song as it went for 2min exactly..I did not have 2min exactly of RAH-66 stuff, that is why it is called RAH-66 & Friends :)
Well they are using a lot of UAV's now, but there are a lot of more interesting ones about to come out. There are several UAV projects that are going throw final testing right now.
Because it's intended role was replaced by drones.
It was to be an Artillery spotter y'know.

Yes, it was awesome.....the Helicopter you ask about at 1.57 (the end credits) is a Bell 47G-5, the same Helicopter I learned to fly in, the video is taken just after I have landed.

@ElectricGravity Yes, I agree, but I had to put something over the original audio on some of the segments before I edited it, the original sound was even worse ! I do have the Arnie sound file "Get to the Chopper" too.
yes it IS an attack helicopter. its also a scout. RAH=Reconnaissance Attack Helicopter
Funny you should say that...it was going to be the first "Stealth" Helicopter, hence its shape....
@sansez Yes, it carried weapons in internal bays on the sides, there are some photos of them open on the net. As will all stealth aircraft, you have to put the weapons inside to keep the smooth lines and correct angles to keep the small radar return.

that's true, it was disign to fight against CCCP, the longbow can do 100% of a commanche job...but its maintenance is expensive, they should study a new project such like eurocopter tiger...

@Cengiz78x Why? Nobody wanted a stealth scout heliccopter. The US didnt need it, and when the UK put out invitations to bid for an attack helicopter in the 90s it went up against the apache, the eurocopter tiger, the super cobra and the A129 mangusta and the apache came out on top.
I wonder if the Army is going to bring back the RAH-66? I understand that we still dont have a use for it. But we might really soon. Same with the Air forces F-22

No, it was cancelled a few years ago. There were 12 built to various stages to my knowledge, but the US Govt. canned it due to cost and time over runs and probably other ploitcal reasons. Too bad, the first Stealth Heli...

ye firescout. but to tell you the truth i really dont think the small uav will be able to carry any weapons. also you can never replace a pilot with a camra on a giant rc.

Yes, basically they took too long and it cost too much money, if they had got it up and running faster/chepaer and other political things didn't happen in the US at the same time, we may have seen many of them flying in service. The friend I have who worked on the weapons bay on this helicopter now builds and designs UAVs.
Shame it got canceled :(
How did they made stealth main rotor? It is the primary source of radar reflection. So It's impossible to make stealth helicopter!

Yea it was a great helicopter, but the truth is that they are working on UAV that do the job better and for less money. In the end that's all they really care about.

@importjunky27 it doesnt really matter how good something is when its not cost effective... thats why this program was scrapped, it cost 2 much money, for a helicopter that has 2 little use... same goes for f22, why bother spending 20x more money on a plane that is only 5x more good... it dont make sence... when russia can put out 10 jets for the price of 1 f22, and the f22 is only as good as 6 russian jets, clearly the russians are winning
