    I live right next to Ft Bragg,literally a 1/4 mile to the boundary. I have a front row seat seeing the Apache flying around all the time. It’s such an amazing weapon platform. As a kid, I wanted to be a rotorhead, but my eyesight took a turn down when I was about 14. It was a really heartbreaking turn of events. God Bless all those who wear their respective countries uniform and work to defend us all from the evils of the world. Cheers to all the Brits out there. You guys are pretty badass as well. America may have some vicious fighting men(seals, delta and SF)but they all modeled themselves after the SAS. Who dares, wins! 😉🤙🏻🤙🏻. Much love.

    Back in the early/mid 80s I was out with a buddy four-wheeling in the desert outside of Phoenix. We had parked the rig and were sitting just below the top of a sort of cliff overlooking a scenic vista. Out of nowhere, an AH-64 just appeared over our heads, did a 180 and was parked out there looking at us. We about messed our drawers. I couldn't actually see the faces of the crew, but I had a feeling they were sitting there laughing their behinds off. We hadn't heard a thing until they were going over us. Very impressive, to say the least. Been in love with them ever since.
    I found out later that there was a McDonnell Douglas test area right around there and they were probably just skyhooting around.

CW4 Tim Roderick and I were in the same unit (2-101st) in 2001. I think that is the year he retired. Great guy. Learned a lot from him. The Apache AH-64F Longbow Attack Helicopter is truly BadAss! I was in Operation Desert Storm and I can personally say that their power as A Models were impressive and accurate as they chewed up Saddam Hussein's armor , antiaircraft batteries, scud missle sites and tracked vehicles and trucks. The Hellfire Missles are deadly accurate and toasted anything in their line of targeted sighting. The night vision system is awesome. Highly manager and agility like a Cobra in MEGASTEROIDS! These flight rews along with U.S
    Marine Corps AH1Z Super Cobras are the elite in military aviation. No infantryman worth his salt will ever be left without protection from air support. Fixed wing bomber, fighter, Helicopter Gunship or VS-22 Osprey Gunahip. With twin 105mm howitzer cannons and twin 7.62 Gatling guns/Minimums. God Bless all aircrews who train hard to fight and win. And isn't the UK version a different beast?. We brought the airframes of the US & installed Rolls Royce engine giving them more speed & a higher payload & also gave them more advanced & better avionics. I know the UK Army Apache was very successful. But i suspect that will be kept quiet!!

    • @ph.5063
      @ph.5063 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevinparker461 UK and I think also the Dutch had Rolls Royce engines in the AH64D. Not sure about the "A" model. That is partly why after 911; 3-101st was the Apache unit sent to Afghanistan because the A model had better performance than the D model. Eventually around 2005 the D models did get an upgraded engine, however, even when we were in Iraq 2003, we had some D models that were limited on power. I only had 1 year experience in the A model, but given the choice of fighting a battle in an A model vs D model; the D model gave you so much more situational awareness over the A model. And by 2007 when we had D models with Gen 2 FLIR , it was by far a better aircraft. Especially, when it came to situations where friendlies were "danger close." I'm sure you can find videos on here with the differences of FLIR quality. We would have been much more successful and prevented aircraft losses if we had Gen 2 FLIR on all Apaches during the 2003 Iraq invasion and any Afghanistan battles.
