you have a gift of teaching... very informative, concise and easy to understand. I also like how you don't try to impress with using complicated vocabulary... nice and easy to understand.
So Thankful I found this video. I have seen many other instructor golf videos, they are good, however this lesson is very easy to follow and understand . You are very knowledgeable about the game and technically sound, however, your passion and preparation for teaching is amazing!! Thank You!!
Moving the ball back to just a hair infront of where I do with my 7-iron helped tremendously. I used to position it 1-clubhead behind lead foot because thats what all the other YT golf coaches say to do. I'd top it, hit it thin, or hit pull hooks when I caught it solid.
I like your lessons dude. They’re straight forward and informative. I’ve gotten better with my fairway woods, driver too. My skill level hasn’t improved as much as I hoped this year but I’m definitely shooting fewer strokes.
I've been watching all of your videos and love them. Keep up the really really good instructional work. I've been hitting balls everyday since I started watching them and I can already see and hear the improvements. Thanks again
I would like to echo some previous comments made earlier regarding the clarity of your instruction. Continue to provide concise instruction and focus content for your students. Great job!
Very good video, clearly explained, I have this issue now and then, this cured it, thanks, I have added issues with alignment etc due to physical challenges, so although the ball for me is a little different in set up to this, it worked for me in principle, well done Jonathan..
Thanks! This was happening to me exactly at the range today! I never topped my woods before this much until I was going the iron drills and then for some reason I started topping. But this explains some things I should pay attention to next time.
When practising hitting balls with a fairway wood off a driving range mat, I find that placing a broken tee a couple of inches left of the ball and trying to hit both ball and tee, ensures ball first contact. While hitting fairway shots on the course it's a simple matter to visualise an imaginary tee, laying on the ground, a little left of the ball. It seems more natural to have the ball slightly back in the stance when setting up.
My journey with the fairway 3 wood has been all over the place. Initially I could hit it well. Then I started topping it all the time & I put it back in the bag & switched to a 3 iron which I hit really well. Went back to the 3 wood at the end of last year & started to make good contact on the ball. I think I did have the golf ball to far forward & some instructors talk about sweeping the ball. You say hit down like the iron & this makes more sense to me. Trying to sweep the ball makes you hit up on it. Is that right Jon? I also shortened my swing which seemed to help.
you are correct in thinking that "sweeping" will cause a golfer to hit up on the ball too much. The length and design of the club head will help reduce how much the club digs so there is no need to intentionally reduce the amount you hit down on the ball.
Thank you for the tip, very clear: will try it at my next practice. One question about 3-Wood: would you tee it up when using it instead of the driver, and if so how high would you tee it up?
yes you would definitely tee it up. With a 3-wood you dont need to tee it up very high but I would say as long as you dont get more than half of the ball above the face you are ok. This would also depend on your swing.
Can wait 2 try this tip on the range….. LOL! I’ve been so afraid 2 pullout either my woods or hybrids in the middle of the fairway! LOL! So….. I’ve just been trying 2 make my 6 iron work and then some kinda wedge… LOL!
Great stuff! I am struggling to get the ball up in the air with a launch angle at 5-6 with woods and lower loftet hybrids. What can I do to change this? Too much shaft leen? Swing speed around 105 so the speed should not be a problem. Can you post a picture or video about Impact position and realese for woods and lower lofted hybrids? Thanks!
Very useful. It's so easy to let the three wood position become a pale imitation of the driver. I like your working off the front heel with three balls rather than a midline.
Great information as usual. What’s the link for creating the “grid” at the beginning of the video? I did not see the link. Thanks, and keep producing the excellent content!
Interesting to hear that you're still trying to hit down. Should the ball be moved slightly forward with woods? The thought I always have to have....is to make sure I am bringing my back shoulder down and through to impact....and that results in solid hits on the ball. I find I don't really want compression impact, on the whole, to get real long distance with my 7 wood. I want to hit on a sweep. I generally don't hit a 3 wood. I'll hit a 3 bybrid...or 4 hybrid.
Hey Jonathan! I want to start by thanking you for your awesome lessons. There is only one Moss in the world, you are the best😊👍🏻🕺🏼. As you probably already know but we in Sweden need help with is Stensson. Check out his swing now at The Players Championship. What is he doing wrong, what would you have helped him with. Interesting to hear your opinion. You are the best⛳️😊🇸🇪🙏🏼
Jonathan .... great video. I was topping my 3 wood. I do have a question for you. If you are teeing up your 3 wood, should u have a little less body tilt forward at address as compared to it being on the ground? I know I don’t tee it up as much as the driver. Thank you!
This is great! 👍🏻 Easy to understand, and more importantly, easy to put into my swing. I have shared this with a playing partner of mine who STRUGGLES hitting 3-wood, and is in awe of how well I hit mine. He has quite a strong grip (hits low draws with his driver) and really struggles to get his 3-wood airborne. Would be great if you could do a follow up to this video, maybe more advanced advice on hitting 3-wood. 👆🏻
Your tips are gold, Jonathan: Clear, concise, easily adopted. My new favorite TH-cam golf guru.
The portion of the video regarding the set up for a 3wood was an eye opener for me. Thanks
Amazing. Love this guy. Short, sharp, simple. Use his tips in my game. Fab.
Excellent! Pragmatic tips!
Great tip, I’ll put to use today. Thx
That posture and tilt tip is gold!
I used to sweep the ball with my 3 wood and topped it a lot. I am going to try your idea today.
Ya great lesson boom done! That’s the fairway wood lesson that says it all !
Just love your teachings. Thx Jonathan.
Thanks, you have the gift of knowing how to explain and be clear!
Always like very much the way you teach and explain…
Thanks Jonathan! I went out and tried this, and it worked perfectly. I have had trouble hitting my fairway woods forever! Again, thanks!

Another excellent session. Glad to have found you.
You are the best instructor on the internet. Keep up the good work and my game has gotten alot better from watching your videos. Ty
Wow! Been getting bad info for years on set up and trying to sweep. I am excited to go out and implement this! Thank you for sharing these trainings!
Great tip. Hope to see a video with the 3-wood from different lies (above and below the feet) .
Hope so too.
great idea
Oh wow, so detailed and useful. 👍👍👍
Wow, did not know this tip on posture before. Thanks!
Thanks for the tips. After a nice drive, I always tend to chunk my fairway shoot. Going to follow your advice.
Tremendously helpful. I was definitely standing too tall with the fairway wood.

I agree with Sean. Makes it a lot easier.

One of THE WORST things to happen when playing a round of golf - topping that 3-wood. Aaargh! Thanks for the great tips.
Tks for your tips and tricks brother 👍
So glad I found you.
Great explanation. I keep topping or chuncking my 3 wood. I think this may fix that problem.
Excellent videos. Right to the point with easy to follow swing tips. Also your advice is easy to take to the range. Keep up the great work

does the left leg straighten on the downswing faster than hitting an iron straightening.

Nice swing bruh!
Thanks for the video. This is really helpful. Especially around the shoulder plan. Question, is there a big difference when using a Driver
Thanks Jonathan. What about ball position for 3 wood off a tee?

In a golf swing, which hand is dominant, leading hand or trail hand? Thank you.
Hi , Jonathan, I have tendency to hit the hosel when hitting a fairway woods ; please advise.
Damn.... I love you man... Thanks
Amaizing
How does your position change when hitting a 3W off the tee? Are we still hitting down on the ball or are you supposed to hit up when tee'd up?
Nice video.
