I’ve watched so many golf pros on TH-cam and I really think that Danny Maude is the best. Simple and straightforward. I like to have the thought that my arms are relaxed and heavy when I hit a fairway wood.
My brother in law took me golfing and I’ve fallen in love with it ever since. Just got my own clubs and watching your videos really helps me understand a lot! Thank you so much!
Went to the range yesterday and used your lesson from last week, free flowing swing and don't worry about the direction the ball might go... what a difference! I was hitting it straight and long, actually much more consistent then when I was focused on trying to hit it straight! Great lessons and can't wait to work on this part of my game! Thank you!
This advice is just what I would have asked for!! I struggle so much with my hybrids/FWs that I rarely use them unless it is an slightly uphill lie - I almost invariably top or thin my shots along the ground when the ball is level or slightly downhill, (or above or below the feet). Probably my inexperience means I don't read the lie well enough, and I also think a big point is to have a more relaxed swing rather than trying to hit it as far as possible. I shall have to rewatch this video in the new year, once I can practice again, as the clubs have been put away now we are close to the Christmas season. Thanks for all the advice and encouragement. Have a good Christmas!
Thanks for explaining the "distance from the ball". I knew that already, but I needed to be reminded. After a difficult and inconsistent season I found I was lifting the hands slightly just before takeaway, and rocking back in my heels to compensate for the shallower angle between forearms and shaft. Clearly a formula for inconsistent strikes. Now I'll try going "back to basics" to solve my confusion about "distance from the ball".
Gday Danny. Have been watching your videos recently and they’ve been helping my swing so much. I watched your channel before I went out today and got my first ever hole in one!!!!!!!!! Cheers for all your help
I like this one. I think I constantly don’t trust my swing and setup so I ALWAYS compensate by flicking the wrists or early extending. I’m just so afraid of burying my club or leaving the face wide open that I feel like I have to adjust during the swing. What you said here makes a lot of sense. Get all of the setup pieces right, and you can just trust that your swing will do the work. Gonna have to try this out. I think I constantly rush my setup..
Danny Maude's video's have enable me to identify what I have been doing wrong and how to correct. Personally watching new content, not implementing until I have internalized the other 2 videos. IMHO gets the why of a problem quicker, and the remedy quicker than other online coaches. Thanks Danny.
Love your videos Danny, always simple and straight forward and hopefully easy to put into practice. You never make it too complicated. A big thankyou . Going to try and put this into practice this week.
A few months ago I started watching your videos. ......I blame you for being back on the golf course after 24 years Your teaching and presentation skills are immaculate. You make complex issues easy to understand Thank you
You made that look so easy Danny. One thing you have taught me is to keep compact when swinging. By that I mean arm tucked in and elbow not pointing outward. I have struggled hitting my woods on the fairway, admittingly I don't always check my lie. Stay well and Merry Christmas 🎄
Good morning Danny. Many thanks for all the great videos and content during the year. Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year to you and your family. Cheers from NL.
To enable them to hit the ball with a descending blow, most amateur golfers improve their striking of the ball with fairway woods and hybrids by moving the ball further back in their stance - ie nearer to the centre - and from years and years of experience they find that this is the best solution to achieving a good ball flight, as it is much easier than trying to control the bottom of the swing further forward under the lead shoulder whilst at the same time NOT trying to lift the ball into the air.
Perfect timing Danny I was hit and miss with my fairway wood yesterday. Had a good round but could have been even better if not for a couple of duff fairway woods. I must admit I never check my arms are aligned like in your lesson so will do that tomorrow. Thanks as always. Have a great weekend and a very Merry Christmas to you and your family
Danny: I have Mavrik 4 & 5 Fairway woods. They are my favorite clubs and I hit them pretty well. This vid will help a lot, however, especially "assessing the lie." I've started doing that and if I don't have a clean lie, I bring out a hybrid. Thanks for your insights and help. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy, Golfing New Year!
Thanks to you my wedge game is on point at the mo. I'm keeping about a 10 foot dispersion over 80-90 yards and I'm striking the ball beautifully. I sold my irons earlier in the year, so now my plan is to just add one or two irons and not add any more until I've mastered those ones. I think I need to concentrate on hanging the arms and getting the right distance from the ball because my wedge play definitely does not translate to longer clubs. I still have a 5 wood so will take it to the range with me next time. Thanks, and Happy Christmas, Danny & family!
Terrific reinforcement lesson. I played in Cancun last week and absolutely flushed a four-wood off a tight lie, which is normally hard for me. Your weather looks reasonable. Merry Christmas to you and yours Danny. I appreciate you.
Merry Christmas happy new year. May your family and friends be very happy. Look forward to next year to help my game get a little bit better thank you.
Merry Christmas Danny to you and your family. Your lessons have greatly reduced my frustration level with the game, and my blood pressure as a result :)
‘Danny, thank you so much for all of your videos. You are amazing. I have a video series recommendation-What do you do when everything falls apart with your swing and ball striking?” I think we have all been there where one day you go to the driving range and you just can’t hit the ball, and you have no clue what you are doing wrong.
The thought that helped me stop topping these clubs is to have ball in middle of stance and sweep the ball with the top of the clubface level with the top of the ball at impact. Face of club is about same size as the diameter of the ball.
Cool video. Could you do a video on ball above/below your feet and ball on uphill/downhill lie? There's so many adjustments to make it gets complicated. Thank you Danny.
Two things I've found helps with 3 woods and hybrids is I'm not trying to swing down too much with a 3 wood. I almost want to sweep it off the ground. So I try to take my club back almost brushing the ground for as long as possible (it's not really doing that it's just a mental picture) and the second thing is I want a full release as you demonstrated. I almost want to forget the ball is there. When I do this (which is not all the time) I usually make excellent contact and hit a bit of a very slight push draw. Now to just do it every time instead of every second time...
Hi Danny! You videos are such a great help! You mention reaching for higher lofter hybrids for poorer lies. I don't have any in my bag but I do carry a 7 wood and a nine wood. Can these be as effective as a hybrid for these tougher lies?

Your swing is so easy - which is exactly your point..it flows. I’ve not been hitting my hybrids so well recently and your video has made me realise why..Happy Golfing in 2025
I began playing golf around the time Covid was happening. I was never able to hit fairway woods and it got to the point I didn't even bother keeping them in my bag. Then a couple seasons ago I began to work on it in the offseason, I took lessons and practiced a lot. I found that I was doing 2 things wrong...but the main thing was that (like a lot of people), I was trying to help the ball into the air and I had my right hand too far under the club. When I moved my hand around to a weaker position, more on top of the club, it was almost like a reminder to put some downward pressure on the shot. I was always topping the fairway woods, swinging too hard and trying to help the ball up. But once I got over the fear of hitting the ground (which of course you have to do), I began to hit better shots! There are lots of potential causes for people who can't hit their woods, but if I can figure it out, anyone can! :)
300yds out I'm never hitting wood, 5 iron, GW seems a better option to me as long as hazards don't come into play. Something's gone very wrong if I'm 300yds out for GIR.
Problem is most people go the range and hit shots where the ball sits up - then struggle on the real life courses. Lies are always inconsistent - place the ball but also press down to give variable lies - not just sitting up -then hit 10 balls like this. Always hit on real grass - over and over again!! Hit 3/4 swing and follow through. Easy as…. If you can’t get on the course - find a local park. No one around between 2-3 so you could hit lots of shots between 150-200 yards shots- no sweet.

At this time of the year in UK winter rules mean you can move the ball if there is a better lie within 6 inches no nearer the pin.
Absolutely, makes things much easier
