It stands out even in 2024, basically games nowdays almost lost all player interaction, there are a bunch of multiplayer solitaire euros nowdays, so the games like Caylus are still a breath of fresh air :)
I need to make a list of my favorite Euro's. For WP games two this year that are fantastic are Lost Ruins of Arnak, and Whistle Mountain. Check out my reviews of those!
Saying it doesnt stand out in the sea of workerplacement games about the remake of the game which kicked off This genre is true blashemy. Original was a masterpiece. This one is as well.
It would be similar to say Dominion doesn't stand up to the newer deck builders (which I've heard a lot of people say). Being the first doesn't usually make you the best as others later refine it. But that's what makes this hobby great. Plenty of games that some people love that they can choose from!
