Loved this plant spotlight deep dive! I got my el choco red about 4 months ago and it is absolutely stunning! The leaves are so so gorgeous and velvety and it has the coolest backside and deep red cataphyll. We are in the dead of winter here so I’m anxious for the spring and the growing season although it seems happy and is sizing up decently now. I loved the slow-mo montage! So funny!

Also, your high regard towards this beautiful plant inspired me to also purchase my own baby El Choco from the same online store a few months ago. I adore how it's grown and recently reached the cataphyll stage! Thanks again for your entertaining and inspirational videos!

I got a pretty large one a couple months ago and it's been getting some strange dark, circular spots on its leaves 🤔 they just seem to pop up anywhere on the leaves 🤷🏼‍♂️ maybe somebody here has an idea (even though that description is not very specific) fungus maybe?

That is genius, growing a small plant and upgrade to a tall moss pole. I made a small ‘moss pole’ out of a coke bottle to grow a Variegated Monstera. Adonsonii cutting, and I didn’t know how I was going to put it on a tall moss pole, now I know! Thanks Jan.
I had an idea of how to help roots attach better on moss poles where they need extra help,I found that pins pop out and don’t push the node in enough, what about wrapping a grafting tape around the node and the pole to tighten it?
Love that El Chico,it’s stunning, you said you gave some to your ‘ friends’, well I thought we were BFF, Pffff,I don’t remember getting one! 🤣🤣🤣

Wonderful growth on this plant !!!! As always, your videos do not disappoint. Made me want to aquire one, which I just received today. I do have one question, if you have time to answer. If not, I understand completely.
The one I received has quite red / darkish roots and I can see yours are white. As a very concerned plant parent, I don't know if that's normal or if I should repot it in a week or so ( in a nice and chunky aroid mix, what else ) to give it time to acclimate and not shock it too much...
Thanks for sharing all your work ( mixes, advices, experiences with all those beauties ) it really motivate one to try and make one's plants as happy as yours :)

The roots are red at first but eventually fade to white so no concern here :) thank you!

This is so beautiful, Jan, I just found this plant at Bunnings today, bought 2, I hope I can grow them like yours.
What is the name of the yellow/green plant in the background on the right hand side, it’s amazing.

Enjoy it while it's small. When it gets big the leaves no longer have that red on the backs of the leaves.

I need a moss pole ASAP. Wtf. I have a pothos that has been with me for 3 years. Just got serious about plants about a year ago and figured out how to care For it. It’s finally vining but the leaves are the same size they’ve always been. I want to grow it into a giant!!!

Beautiful plants you have. Do you sometimes rent plants to make videos?

It's looking great now! 😍 What do you do with the cataphyl when the new leaf is beginning to grow out? it's really meaty and thready and very moist. Does it have a purpose? I tend to cut it of, is that wrong? How long do you keep it on? Hope you know what I'm talking about 😅

It is there to protect the new leaf but suppose there’s less things to protect it from when it grows inside. I usually get rid of it once it looks a bit yuck :)

TC means better accessibility to popular plants for those with less disposable income.
