    This was AMAZING!!! Best video yet!! (all your videos are wonderful but I thought this was especially helpful) I love how you include actual teaching clips of your literacy block. Please keep sharing those! You have the best ideas! It would be great to see more video clops of how you differentiate small groups/small group lessons and more of your fun math ideas! Thank you so much for all that you share Mayleen! 💛

    You are doing an amazing job! I have loved seeing your growth over the last few years, and I love how you are aligning your instruction to the science of reading! I am an early childhood education specialist and I just wanted to give you a quick tip to better support your students as they learn to read and write. When saying letter sounds make sure to not add any sounds to the end of the letter sound. For example when saying the b sound, say the sound nice and short, as opposed to “buh ”. When students hear the extra sound, it makes it harder to sound out later on because it may sound like buh-a-duh instead of b-a-d. I definitely did this for years and had to be super cognizant but it definitely helped my babies!

    I absolutely love this video! K and first grade is where I would love to be. Thank you for sharing your ideas. Your videos are so helpful. I also want to say that you are an amazing teacher, Mayleen!

    You inspire me so much. I'm teaching K next year after being in 2nd this year. I was wondering how your day breaks down minute by minute. The videos of you teaching are small group or whole group? I guess I am just confused on the flow -- how you move from read aloud, teaching reading strategies/retelling/etc, to these phonics lessons using the Wonders decodables, etc etc. Hopefully that makes sense.

    This is from before I got my wisdom teeth out two weeks ago! I had to take basically the entire week after this off of work to recover, and I still have to edit the vlog from this past week :) I'm also sharing MORE teaching clips, fun moments, tips, and funny videos on tiktok. Thank you for putting your practice online. You have shared so many great things and I’m learning so much.
    What a great idea recording the math stories and sharing it with the class on a screen. And I love seeing what you do with Rhyme Magic.
    I would love to see more of your management chants for teaching whole group lessons. Your students really respond in a positive way and I would like to replicate.
    Thank you again for what your doing.

    I teach 5th grade math in NC. A couple of years ago, I had a student hand me a note from home and a zip lock bag full of little chewed up pieces of paper. The note explained that their dog actually chewed up the homework. It gave me a good laugh!

    Do you have advice for helping firsties who are struggling with their handwriting (like really struggling)? I have a bright kiddo in my class that has super illegible handwriting, even after reinforcing correct letter formation.

    • @MrsCallsCampers
      @MrsCallsCampers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it their handwriting or fine motor skills? Is it just the formation or is it how they hold the pencil and how much control they have?

    • @sarahp444
      @sarahp444 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrsCallsCampers Both hand writing and fine motor! This student also walks pigeon-toed. With handwriting, it's almost like they are pressing down on a paper, fairly hard, to keep control of the pencil.

    Hi, just out of curiosity, when you do your kinders literacy block are you teaching whole group or small group?

    • @MrsCallsCampers
      @MrsCallsCampers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Whole group MOST of the time..occasionally I'll have them partner read and pull some. Most times it is just a whole group lesson because I only have about 12 kinders. I pull small groups during centers!
