    I have been running my 2.7 EB super hard for 2 years now. It has been a rock solid high performing engine. Glad you pointed out that the significant weight reductions - both body and engine - make this truck very nimble and ideal for how 90% of us use them - daily driver, light haul and tow, and occasional heavy tow. Great post! thanks!

    Just purchased the F-150 with the 2.7 ecoboost. Really happy with it. Yes the auto-stop takes some getting use to. On very cold days or warm days it doesn't turn off the engine until the cab is getting warm/cool. So I like that function a lot. Great info you shared...

      @jimbob5147 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steven Ritter you can pop the switch out and add a jumper wire from the white wire to the black and purple wire. this will permanently keep this feature off... your welcome everyone

    • @jimbob5147

      D Newman it's safe to do. or instead of a jumper you can install a switch. this will allow you to leave it off or on

    I just bought a brand new 2015 F150 Lariat Supercab with the 2.7 Ecoboost. Absolutely love the truck and the motor as well. More than enough power and I am loving the gas mileage as well. For a person like myself that will never tow anything bigger than a bass boat, this is the perfect truck and I don't regret the purchase at all.

    My two cents on the 2.7l vs the 3.5l vs the 5.0l...
    Ford knocked it out of the park with all 3 engines. I currently drive the 2.7 and love love love it. I can make a good argument for it, and I can also make a good argument for the 3.5 AND the 5.0. All good engines, much respect to Ford for these 3 motors.

    • @mattwagner8965

    I have the 2012 3.5 ecoboost. I bought it a year ago. Love it! It did have a hesitation and sputtered at 75% throttle and up. My local mechanic put a intake fog valve cleaner in it and now it's 100%. It has 80k miles now.

    Love this 2.7 liter!
    Drove the other engines ...too much engine and too sluggish.
    This one has so much get up and go.
    I think the smooth transmission is also a great improvement.
    I'm not towing or hauling except Home Depot stuff.
    So, it is the perfect truck for me.
    Had many Fords including F-150's and an explorer.
    Always long life and good value.
    This one is exceptional in power, fuel economy, fit & finish.

    Hi, thanx for the info on the 2.7L V6. I bought a 2014 F150 SuperCab XLT 5.0L 4X4 in December 2014 as I was living in RI at the time turns out it was a very good move as it was in 4X4 part of everyday for 3 months due to lots of snow and constant below freezing temps. In June of 2015 I moved to Florida for family obligations. In November of 2015 I saw all of the incentives and lower interest available. I went and traded for a 2015 F150 4X2 with more options and much better interest payments. I practically walked out on an even swap. OK so having both the 2.7 & the 5.0L the 5.0L sounds better and had all the go that you would expect. Now the 2.7 is surprising. It has great pick up & under a firm acceleration there is a point where it picks up your butt and scoots you down the road. Now it must be a secret because I found it on my own by accident..the button that shifts into Tow/Haul if you hit it 2X it goes into sport mode. Turns it into a different animal. I get 19.8 on the highway (70-75). We also have roads with 50-55 speed limits where I can get around 24.+ mpg. It's a great engine. Also I have the 36 gallon tank gives you a 750mile range..Love it.

    I am impressed with the m.p.g of my 2.7liter Lariet. Sometime, I put my truck in sport mode...so gone. Another point I have is having a 23 gallon tank versus a 36 gallon I had in my 2014, it won't break the bank on fill up. Thanks for the video.

  • @blackericdenice

    4:40 I've read this some where before about the 2.7 ecoboost. The reason turbo went bad was because they are HOT when you shut off the engine. Water cool turbos don't get as hot so they last longer. This guy is another example of an actor who read but did not understand what he read.

    • @dtimboggs
      @dtimboggs 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree. If the turbo cooled quickly, then the powerstroke diesel would not need a delay engine off to COOL the turbo down. The residual heat after engine off "burns" the oil out of the turbo bearings. No oil, no turbo

      Patrick, I sure hope you are right. I worry almost daily that I spent 40 grand on a vehicle ( my wife's) that I may have to replace prematurely. I can't afford another one too soon. I AM driving a 2005 F150 5.4 motor that has now 325,000 miles and hardly anything has gone wrong. The starter had to be replaced at 190,000 miles, and that's it! Original muffler, tailpipe, and brake lines all stainless, and never replaced. Original catalytic converter, and U joints never replaced and never squeeked, unreal. Original alternator, and all original internals on this wonderful motor. They say I should replace the timing chain every 100,000, SO I should have replaced them 3 times already, BUT I NEVER DID EVEN ONCE, and it has power, and quick pickup power you would not believe. Power window button went bad, so I took it apart, cleaned it up, and put it all back together, no cost. Best truck I ever owned. I hope my wife's Ecoboost can match my truck in longevity. Proper oil and maintenance is key.

      LostInMySpace wow what a truck, my barber has one, I think he told me right around 200k on her same Triton 5.4 and still running great. When you do replace her you thinking about the 2.7, I have a 2017 STX 4 WD Crew, only 52k and no problems so far, quick off the line, never even thought I’d like more power, from day one I’ve averaged 20.4 mpg in town and a lil better in the highway. Hope my truck turns out to be good as your truck has beeb🙏

      @@poppyneese1811 My wife has the 2016 F150 w/ 2.7 Ecoboost. Her immediate problem is the throttle body. I removed it to clean w/ throttle body cleaner, both sides (inner side was worse), and all the steps to get it in sync w/ the computer, and relearning the idle levels. Still acting up, so I have appt. w/ dealer for her 2016 truck. Yeah, they'll diagnose it and cost me perhaps 400 I'm guessing w/ diagnosis, parts, and labor. The electronic part of the TB is weak point, and Ford can't get them right, so we pay, and pay, and pay. I'm expecting the replacement will in time have to be replaced too.Oue 2.7 has plenty of power like a racehorse.

    I have this beast in my 2016 F150. Getting 15.5L/100km in city driving. Have not done a long haul highway drive yet so cannot give a good l/100km there. I took a Keystone Passport 3220BH for a haul on a day with wind gusts of 60kph. This little engine could and did very well. Easily hauled 6000# of dry weight downhill and uphill. Now it was a blustery day so mileage hit 22L/100KM. Uphill rpms hit 3500 but it held onto 100kph speed. From a standstill, this 2.7L moved without even burping. It was like the trailer was not even there. Comparing this 2.7 to the 5L I had previously, I have to say there was no difference in power but one big improvement in mileage. In city ... 2.7L did 15 while the 5L was doing 25L/100km. In my opinion, "The 2.7 is the little engine that could".

    Thanks good stuff! I decided on a Ford F150 and almost closed the deal but backed on the last minuted as I wasn't sure I was buying the right F150. I called Ford headquarters and there is no one I can talk to there. What is needed is an experienced person who will walk me (us) through everything from the engines to mirrors. I was out in my garage at 4am measuring the garage door to see if I could even get the truck through the door. I can with 3 inches to spare (each side) but power folding mirrors are now a must! Then a financing expert who knew all the rebates and discounts. This is left up to the salesman (who was great) and he kept finding out other discounts that I wasn't sure was all available to me as a vet, usaa member, A plan, October first deadline and on and on. For me price was key. I would rather not get a truck than to buy the wrong one and find out later some discounts were available not realized. So, who can walk me through my needs and assess which truck and all the rebates available to me are? I plan to have this truck for 10+ years. 67 yrs old and need a good long lasting 4x4 for my modest needs. Lynbyk@gmail.com

Also an issue with direct injection motors is carboning up of the intake valves. I installed a quality billet aluminum catch can remedy these issues.

    Great video thx!! Please do one that discusses the best engine and rear end ratio choice for an F150 that has been lifted 6 inches with 325/50 size tires. This is a very common setup and it always seems that the trucks are under powered. For example, unwanted frequent down shifting on the highway due to the increased rolling resistance of the larger tires. Some say the V8 while others swear by the 3.5 Ecoboost.

    Good video, but the auto start stop feature you described isn't entirely accurate . The engine only shuts off if you press your foot down a bit further than what it takes to hold the truck in place. And it keeps it shut off for a max of 2 minutes. I have the exact same truck. Great video!

    There are people with the 2.7L on Ford truck forums that report they have towed with the 2.7L, then when they get off the highway or stop for gas, the truck stalls out and runs rough with no power and they have to press the throttle down to keep it running. There are no CEL or error codes. When they take the truck to a Ford dealer to check it, the Ford dealers find no problems and say the computer codes are all clear.

    Drove from Alhambra, Il, just East of St Louis about 30 miles, to Warwick RI. I traveled 2381 miles round trip doing the speed limit and averaged 25.1 MPG, I thought that was good mileage for a 2015 XLT Super Crew Cab W/ four wheel drive. We also use this truck to pull a 5800 pound camper, with good pick up onto the ramps and hills.

    Your comments about the turbo are somewhat misleading. The issue with t;urbos is "heat sink," or residual heat after shutdown overcoming the now dormant cooling provided by oil and water. And we are talking BIG heat. Previously turbos were cooled with oil alone. Heat sink caused the SEALS to fail first, then the bearings and ultimately the turbo itself. This is exactly why manufactures went to water cooling in addition to oil cooling. It is also why synthetic oil is recommended, blended or full. Synthetic withstands the heat much better. The after shut-down water cooling you spoke of is not due to a water pump, but water movement due to temperature differences between the water as it comes in contact with the turbo and adsorbs the turbo's heat, and the cooler water outside the turbo - convection.

    • @WASTED__POTENTIAL
      @WASTED__POTENTIAL 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jim Jacobson One note to add: Coking. When the engine was shut off, the oil that is no longer being circulated through the still scorching hot turbo would burn because its not being circulated. This leaves deposits of burnt oil called coking.

    • @fordrac1ng81
      @fordrac1ng81 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      most ecoboost motors have an electric aux water pump that continues to run after the engine is shut off. This is to keep the oil from turning to sludge in the turbo, which is why motorcraft is still a semi synthetic and they don't need to run a full synthetic from OEM

    GREAT information. Love the details, specs, and in depth explanations of features on the 2.7... I just bought a 2018 STX with the 2.7 and I love it so far. If I baby it and drive like a grandpa I can get 27mpg on the freeway or get to 60mph in under 7 seconds. I am looking to add a cold air intake from K&N or Airaid and a Flowmaster or MBRP cat-back dual exhaust. What are you thoughts on actual power/torque/mileage gains?

    My '03 F150 with 210,000 miles trashed itself internally when a timing chain tensioner failed, the plastic chain rails exploded, sending shrapnel all thru the engine, the right bank cam jumped time and a piston bent a valve. What I would like to know is did FORD improve any of these components? I restore old Mercedes and have never seen their chain tensioners fail or their plastic chain rails fail.
